Substack charged me a one-time $50 fee for using my custom domain, kalish.nyc. But the https version of my URL wasn't loading on Firefox browsers, so my domain registrar, Hover, suggested that I use redirect.pizza. I did and a problem ensued: because Hover also had a redirect in place, a loop was created. The tech support people at redirect.pizza promptly responded to my emails requesting help and solved the problem, which entailed Hover removing its redirect. Pros It's free and the tech support is superb. When I ran into complications with the redirect my domain registrar was responsible for, redirect.pizza came to the rescue. Cons I can't think of anything I didn't like about redirect.pizza. I do wonder whether something that is free will last but time will tell. The status and tester tools helped me confirm the service was actually working. Within a couple of hours, I can see the redirection working in my browser. Google apparently makes this a huge pain, including so that SSL certificates take several hours to load and that it's not allowed to use a bare (e.g. example.com) URL, only a subdomain. Redirect Pizza let me redirect the bare to the www, and in the meantime before the SSL kicked in it let me redirect the www to the Google Sites URL, so I didn't have to wait for Sites to come up with the new SSL cert. Pros It does exactly what it says on the tin, and does it well! No additional latency, and it told me exactly what to put in my DNS listings. Cons I can't say that I have any real complaints.
