Constant updates have been a headache but Dentrix has been very functional. Terminating my relationship has been a nightmare. Pros Intuitive and easy to use. Handles every clinic task Ive needed to run my business. Customer sevice is great at helping run the software. Cons I sold my dental practice in December. Dentrix helped with the transition to the new owner and Open Dental. \[sensitive content hidden\] has access to my bank account and they won"t stop billing me. Every month customer service says they will close my account. It is now March and they hit my account again. I cant seem to make them stop. Help! Reports take a long time to run and do not export to Excel. The selection is generic. Dentrix is not useful compared to other products on the market. Pros It's basically user-friendly and easy to navigate. The chart section is good because it allows you to see everything on one page. Cons Customer service is terrible. It is up to date, accurate, and quick. I am never waiting on a lagging screen. I love that Dexis and other software easily integrate into it. Pros I love how user friendly it is. It is a clean and simple software to understand. When onboarding new employees, there is great ease. Cons I do think that it needs a little bit of a facelift. My favorite would probably not refer any other dental offices to that software. Pros I have to say it is hard to find something that I really do like about Dentrix. But if I were to pick something, I would have to say the ledger was fairly easy to read. Scheduling was also pretty convenient. Cons So many things that I can say that I like lease about Dentrix the ledger and reporting we’re not my favorite in particular with the reporting it’s just not user-friendly they take forever to load, and the ledger itself is just not user-friendly because you do not allocate payments to any procedures, so you really don’t know what the money was for unless you make a note within the payment, which is kind of cumbersome Review Source SS Shayan S. July 4, 2025 5.0 It pushed our patient flow and decreased the time spent on admin. Billing is easier and we have had much less scheduling trouble since we switched to Dentrix. Pros The documentation that automatically pulls from visit to visit is great, as I can plan and treat faster as well as be consistent across providers. It is also very easy to rearrange scheduling at the last moment when plans change. Cons The UI is a little old fashioned, and it took a longer time to get onboarded than I would have liked. August 11, 2021 5.0 I have been working at another dental office recently that doesn’t use Dentrix and I really realize how user friendly Dentrix is and how complete the software feels. It is organized and easy to complete tasks/charting without duplicating efforts. Dentrix just feels like it makes sense to me and it has a professional and updated look. The software I use at the other office is so much harder to use and takes me twice as long to do anything (maybe because I have so much experience using dentrix?). Dentrix is a complete package of features that link together everything in a patient record. Pros The features and ways this software can help manage patient records, appointments, billing, treatment plans, and communications is limitless. I have worked in offices that utilize Dentrix to its fullest and it is a great tool and keeps everyone on the same page in regulates to patients and treatment etc. You can begin using it for a few things and as you get comfortable the features used can expand. It is pretty flexible for using in small offices or larger offices and with proper training it seems to be great in my experience as a hygienist. Cons It can become a mess if employees don’t understand how to utilize the software properly. If patients aren’t scheduled directly from the recall in their chart then they will show up on recall lists and get notified they are due for an appointment or sometimes they can end up with multiple recalls if not managed correctly when scheduling. If treatment plans aren’t input correctly then scheduling and estimates will be inaccurate. Pros well the much older version of the software was user friendly and integrated easily bridged with actual HELP features that tells and teaches about every aspect of all the software features without having to call tech support on a wkly bases. Whatever happened to Dentrix in the last few years has been all bad and very user-UNfriendly. Free software would have been a better use of time and for the money we could have taken a nice office week training in a nice tropical area. Cons everything!!! tech support, help features, trainers that could help set up software and features. NO printed how to book but then again the help feature just has you calling tech support that is about as knowledgeable as the in ap help feature. But now with multiple practices and working remotely, a cloud based system really is more realistic. Pros Was easy to use for myself and staff after training and acclimation period. Had all features that were needed to run a dental practice. Cons Finding various reports were difficult and took some digging around in. There was no way to remotely view the software, if someone wanted to remote in it to view a schedule or someone's benefits or chart notes, it would require taking control of the entire computer and someone in the office could not use it. Additional texting with patients was not two way (real time back and forth) and was not integrated into the software, required logging into a separate website not linked in Dentrix. Pros this product requires a steep learning curve; however its features and versatility are very useful Cons 20+ year user: Product has gotten more complicated to use. previously globally updated components like DEXIS, now must be updated separately; tech support has degraded; is outsourced and there is a language barrier-30 minutes of formalities before the problem is addressed; wait times are lengthy; tech reads manual on client time while client is holding; techs poorly trained and inexperienced. Cons I wish there was a way to integrate different maximums/benefits. " October 29, 2019 5.0 My previous job at my father's dental office worked with paper files for the first 30 years. We finally convinced him to upgrade and get a computer system. We chose Dentrix and I'm glad we did! I don't have experience with others to compare, but it was such a great software. Also, you can print out the patient's chart to have a backup paper chart to file in case of an emergency. Pros \- Dentrix has a ton of features that makes scheduling appointments mostly easy and stress-free. - It's easy to find the codes after the patient received their treatment and add it to their digital chart. - Easy to print patients' charts for backup files. - Billing made easy. - Customer support was always excellent Cons \- Costly. - It can take a bit to learn everything within the software. - Only Windows compatible. I have Windows but that can be an issue for those who are Mac owners. - When scheduling appointments, sometimes the boxes cover other appointment times making them nonvisible, which ultimately makes you not realize an appointment is there and mess up the appointments for that time slot and surrounding. " May 14, 2020 5.0 This was the first time I had worked in an office with Dentrix software and learning it was something I knew I was going to have to do eventually. It took a solid week of me focusing on learning each function of the software and implementing it into my daily routine for me to feel comfortable using it without guidance from coworkers. Pros What was there not to like about this software? I was fresh out of dental assistant school when I went to work for my first job out of school and I was nervous that I wouldn’t learn this software fast enough in the field. That fear went out the door once I got to using it and saw that the layout made things pretty self explanatory and how easily everything flowed together. This software gives you the ability to manage all functions of running a dental office under one roof, instead of operating several different programs. Cons The only thing I could do with being changed with this software would be the patient charting portion. For some reason, it was always a hassle when it came to entering the patient’s chart notes the Doctor had written during each procedure. It just felt like this section never operated as smoothly as the rest of the program did.
