### "A great & easy software for any video creator enthusiast to use"

March 19, 2026

5.0

I've had a positive experience with After effects. I've created some highly engaging content over the years using the software and discovered some really interesting tools that have helped me further develop my design skills. Even after the years of using the software i'm still discovering new effects and animations, and tools which is always great to learn.

Pros

The pros of using After Effects is it's easy to navigate User Interface, after a few uses it's easy to understand how to create and edit videos, and where to find all the editing and animation tools you desire. The vast range of tools the software provides makes it possible to create all the content I can think off and set no boundaries to do so.

Cons

The software definitely contains more pros than cons, one problem I sometimes find myself to have is the slow rendering speeds when trying to preview and scene I've made. It can become timely to see if the animation is set at the speed I'm wanting it waiting for it to render, if not, and have to re-edit, i have to wait for the preview to render again. Doing this can become a time-consuming obstacle when creating content. This only becomes a problem when the videos are detailed, high in storage, short videos work perfectly.

### "Great editing tool"

April 21, 2025

5.0

I used Adobe After Effects mainly to create, edit, and animate short videos. After a bit of a learning curve, I really liked it. I found it simpler than Premiere Pro (though doesn't have as much functionality)

Pros

I really liked the animation tools and found them powerful once I learned how to use them

Cons

I do think there is a steep learning curve, but I also think this is the case with a lot of video software

### "Once a worthy king, now a bloated tyrant on its way to the guillotine."

October 2, 2023

2.0

buggier every year, you are legally not allowed to use old versions, and having adobe threaten you with litigation for using a version you have a license for... it's upsetting and abusive. They raised prices on my 3 years in a row after going subscription, from 200 a month, to 400, and now 600 a month. I was able to stop them by complaining... which is just as insulting, because if the moment I threaten to stop using it, they give me a better price, means they're intentionally price-gouging. the poor teams, I've talked to them. they say "we're just a small team, we can't refactor the codebase or make a new program" meanwhile their company is raking in 15 billion a year. Now it's 1000 a month so I quit. some might say it's less... but to that I say, all their programs are 1000 yearly, as a bundle. let's say you just need photo editing, video editing, and visual effects? that's 1300 a month. it's a shameless upsell, where the programs are now so expensive, it costs your team a month or more of profits every year... for the "best value" offered (that same value used to be a perpetual license, which they revoked)

Pros

After effects is like an old friend to me... which makes me sad to say it's the last major effects program that uses layers. it's a digital version of film editing and effects, from overlays, to blending and merging and cutouts and transparent layers... it was great... those days are past now. still, if you can manage to get an old pre-subscription version, like CS6 or CS5, it'll do you just fine. yar har and a bottle of rum.

Cons

this poor, poor thing. it's like seeing an old friend with dementia. Now there are over 470 addons in this bloated mess, they hacked in multithreading, then removed it, then added it back worse 5 years later and acted like it was the first time, same with MP4 export, they advertise GPU usage, like it's special, but it has all of 5 effects that use the GPU.now, it can't even playback 1080p video reliably. it stores all previews uncompressed in RAM, so if you're editing 4k footage, 64 gigs of RAM will get you 2-5 seconds of playback at 10fps. absolute trash tier, because that's what you get when you take a program that only works on one core, then duplicate it to every core in an attempt to make it faster, while forgetting the UI shares a rendering core, so the UI now stutters and lags uncontrollably at anything above 2K footage (even phones these days can make 4K footage)TL;DR- every version is worse, post 2013, minus a single version in late 2014/early 2015, where the devs implemented many performance hacks. sadly, adobe has threatened users who use that version, and disallow use of any version except the newest, buggiest, slowest versions. a classic case of en\*\*\*\*ification- when it came time to make money, all development and new features ceased, and now the great new feature of this version is colored outlines on keyframes. yaaay. the shareholders clapped, at least.

### "efficiency of Adobe After Effects"

Adobe After Effects has made my production easy by editing videos to my own liking and providing me with effects used in video editing.

Pros

It provides more effects that help enhance the editing of the videos to be more tailored to my own liking.

Cons

It is technical to use, hence one has to be more skilled to use it for perfect editing, so it requires one to spend more time on training.

### "Adobe After Effects: A Great tool for Enhancing Your Videos."

I have been using After Effects for more than 20 years to create effects and motion graphics for videos.

Pros

### "Best 2D Graphic Animation Software"

September 21, 2025

5.0

Overall, this software is the best of it's kind. There's no software right now that can even remotely compete with this.

Pros

I like that it's the only software of it's kind. It's the best combined tracking, rotoscoping, animating and compositing software.

Cons

The cross connection between other Adobe softwares becomes glitchy with bigger files like to and from Premiere and to and from Photoshop.

### "Powerful Tool for Video Effects"

August 15, 2025

My overall experience with Adobe After Effects has been excellent. It’s an incredibly powerful tool that has allowed me to create everything from simple animations to complex visual effects.

Pros

I like most about Adobe After Effects is how much creative freedom it gives me. I can bring almost any idea to life — from smooth text animations to cinematic visual effects.

Cons

The thing I like least about Adobe After Effects is how resource-heavy it is. Complex projects can slow down my computer and render times can be long, especially without high-end hardware.

Pros

As a long-term user of Adobe After Effects, I can confidently say that this powerful software has revolutionized the world of motion graphics and visual effects. Over the years, I have witnessed its evolution and improvements, making it an indispensable tool for professionals and enthusiasts alike. The app has been an indispensable companion throughout my creative journey. While it may present a learning curve and require powerful hardware, the immense creative potential, seamless integration with other Adobe tools, extensive plugin support, and a thriving community make Adobe After Effects a powerhouse in the field of motion graphics and visual effects. Whether you're a professional animator, a video editor, or a passionate enthusiast, Adobe After Effects offers a playground where ideas come to life. It has undoubtedly become an integral part of my creative toolkit, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to unlock their creative potential in the realm of motion graphics and visual effects.

With its vast array of effects, plugins, and tools, the possibilities for creating stunning visuals are virtually limitless. From simple animations to complex compositing and 3D motion graphics, the software empowers users to bring their visions to life. These plugins offer specialized features and effects that further extend the software's capabilities. ### "A leader, but with room to improve"

January 13, 2025

4.0

I love After Effects as a whole, but I do think there's room for improvement to match others in the industry.

Pros

After Effects is a feature-packed animation software that integrates seamlessly with the Adobe Creative Cloud workflow. It is a high-level professional tool that can create stunning animations in both 2D and 3D.

Cons

This program has the steepest learning curve of almost any product I've used in the 2D animation space. It is also a very beefy program that I do not recommend unless you are on strong hardware.

### "Top-tier choice for professionals"

September 15, 2023

4.0

I've found the software to be a blend of complexity and capability. While there's a learning curve involved, the array of features and tools it offers ensures a limitless scope for creativity. Its seamless integration with other Adobe products simplifies the workflow, saving me time and effort. Although occasional lags can be a hindrance, especially with heavier projects, the quality of output is second to none. The abundance of online tutorials also made the journey smoother. All in all, After Effects remains a top-tier choice for those aiming to produce professional-grade motion graphics and visual effects.

Pros

Seamless Integration with other Adobe Products and features.Familiar interface across Premiere and Audition.Quality output is one of the best in the market.

Cons

Lagging and slow depending on the hardware configuration.Multiple updates can introduce bugs at times when reliability is crucial.

### "Industry Standard for Motion Graphics"

April 14, 2022

5.0

After Effects was one of those programs I knew I needed, but didn't want to need. I had to learn how to use it because it vastly improved my production value, which allowed me to charge more and scale my business.

Pros

The magic it can create is unreal. The production value of any project can jump leaps and bounds after a round in After Effects. Most people in my industry use Adobe Premiere and AfterEffects concurrently. I prefer to create/modify elements in After Effects and then use them in Final Cut Pro. It's not the most efficient way to do things, but it's doable and effective.

Cons

The one thing I don't like is that it's an Adobe product. Adobe are infinitely the champions of organization and structure. So much so that without prior knowledge of how Adobe programs operate i.e. file directory structure, etc - After Effects would be very difficult to learn. Tutorials or external instruction is usually needed. Once you get the hang of it, it's incredible powerful software.

Reason for choosing Adobe After Effects

The amount of community support for After Effects is what made me go with it. The Adobe ecosystem almost creates a bond between users. Anyone that is sufficient at using it wears it like a badge of honor. Everyone wants to help each other. I felt that was important when getting started.

### "After Effects Still Number One"

July 12, 2022

5.0

Adobe After Effects is a profession post-production software easily integrated with other adobe products as well as major 3d software programs such as Cinema 4D. If you are desiring to get to the top of your game, to work at major studio in post-production work, don’t waste your time with the competition, go straight to Adobe After Effects as well as their other software programs. Purchase a Master Collection subscription and see how your inspiration takes flight!

Pros

The Adobe Corporation took over After Effects in 1994 and since then it has had little competition. Recently the only competition has been DaVinci Resolve but it’s limited. As with all Adobe applications they integrate into one another. If you are working on a project and must jump quickly to Adobe Photoshop, it allows you to do so. After Effects includes a free installation of Cinema 4D Lite. One of the major 3D programs on the market. Adobe products excels in the infinite quantity of templates, plug-ins, and support offered. Adobe After Effects excels in in it’s UI which is similar to Adobe Premiere Pro’s. The composition area allows you to see all the components at once for creation of your file as well as switching windows to focus on one main component. The software will allow you to enhance any sec of footage or stills that you need to with it’s several tools. Artists can layer, mask, add lights, adjust cameras, add text, import stills, motion files, 3d renderings, and then publish it all into the final file.

Cons

Adobe After Effects is more expensive than programs like Da Vinci Resolve. I would suggest purchasing the Adobe Master Collection subscription, which can be paid monthly or annually. It is also a RAM demanding software so please check your computer’s specifications and upgrade the components or computer if needed before downloading the software. It will check your computer’s specifications prior to downloading and inform you if you are needed additional qualifications.

### "The Tool which you actually need!"

December 7, 2022

4.0

Experience with After Effects is really very good. One can play around with different things in After Effects like Video Editing, Motion Graphics, and VFX. Making things scratch feels great. I usually add third-party software with After Effects to save time. I would highly recommend it to my fellow friends.

Pros

I have been using After Effects for a while now and I'm really enjoying all of its feature.- Can be used for Video Editing, Motion Graphics, and VFX. Not every Video Editing Software can do this.- The Rendering Speed of this Software is really nice. Saves a lot of time.- Can be interlinked with Adobe software like Illustrator and Photoshop. It really helps a lot when you're trying to make something related to Motion Graphics.- You can make transitions and effects from scratch and can control it as per your choice.

Cons

After Effects is really good but there are a few things that I don't like about it.- The Ui of After Effects is little tough for Beginners and it really needs some good practice of yours if you genuinely want to learn about it.- It consumes a lot of RAM if we're running the software. Thus it makes the system run slowly.- After Effects Crashes lots of times resulting in the loss of unsaved projects. There is no way you can retrieve the lost data.

### "Adobe after effects Review "

My overall experience with Adobe After Effects has been very positive. I have used After Effects for quite a few projects over the years, and I find that the program is extremely versatile and powerful. All in all, I would highly recommend Adobe After Effects to anyone looking to create amazing visuals and animations.

Pros

I liked that the software was easy to use and had an intuitive user interface. I also liked that it was very reliable and had a lot of features that made it easy to customize. Additionally, I liked that the software had excellent customer support, so I could get help if I ever had any questions or issues.

### "The cornerstone of our Video Editing Business"

May 20, 2022

5.0

Would say that this is the best software we found for editing and with plugins it is versatile enough to fulfill all our requirements.

Pros

We have been using After Effects for about 10 years now. We started with basic editing and with various plugins like Element 3D, we are able to create good animations all inside After Effects. I would say that there are a lot of pros: 1. Student discount and subscription model. 2. Very easy learning curve. 3. Amazing fluidity with other Adobe products. 4. Less system requirements to start. 5. Has hundreds of plugins. 6. Well documented on the Internet.

Cons

\- There are various updates that occur periodically, often they might break a plugin. - Crashes, there are at least 1-2 crashes a day. - Bugs are still present in every iteration. - Need Adobe Media Encoder to render.

### "Industry standard software that gets the job done"

February 11, 2023

5.0

There's a reason this is an industry standard software, and you'll find it in just about any post production or editing workflow, and beyond. It's extremely powerful, customizable, and is a real workhorse when it comes to compositing and motion graphics. You can also go even more in depth and do basic character animation and things like that as well. In the right hands, there's really no limit to what you can do with it.

Pros

This is my go to software when I need to do simple animations or any kind of motion graphics and compositing. It's very flexible and powerful when it comes to these types of things. You're really only limited by your imagination. Adding plugin functionality on top of that, and you just open up more possibilities as to what you can do.

Cons

It can be a little clunky and cluttered when you're first starting out. If you don't have much experience with this type of software or workflow, it can be really slow to get started. It's not as intuitive as it probably could be.

Reason for choosing Adobe After Effects

There's several similar programs out there. Apple's Motion comes to mind. I don't think it's quite as good as After Effects in general. You also have node based effects software such as Fusion, Smoke, and Nuke; but those are really a different animal, and in a different class really than After Effects. And while they can do some of the same things, there's still a strong spot for After Effects to live in.
