"Great Time Saving Software"

**Pros:** I love how Roof Chief streamlines the process of everything from estimating to material ordering. \[sensitive content hidden\] on tech support is great whenever I need something handled quickly that I don't have time to figure out or helping learn the system generally.

**Cons:** Integration with quickbooks is not as useful as we'd like.

**Alternatives Considered:** [Roofr](https://www.capterra.com/p/208102/Roofr/)

**Reasons for Choosing Roof Chief:** More customization options for everything

"RoofChief review from an estimator's point of view."

**Overall:** I have to point out that we were very busy when I started using RC. I had very little training and I didn't have a lot of time to spend reading a manual. I became very frustrated with it. There are too many options of contracts. There should be a standard estimate sheet. You select what you want to include. It may be roofing or siding, or eaves or a combination of things. In pricing I would like to see a price and a breakdown of costs for each category. And I would like to see a standard brief description of the work we will do - one for roofing, one for siding, one for soft metals, etc. I don't want to have to manually adjust the comment section. Once I have my Eagleview measurements (or my own measurements) I want to have the estimate done and printed in about 15 minutes, which is what I could do with my previous employer.

**Pros:** I like the measurement section at the start that allows for the many variations in size, slope, waste allowance, etc. I like that those measurements are carried forward into the materials, and finally into pricing. To do that manually would be very time consuming.

**Cons:** We are a small company. For me as an estimator, there is too much detail. Until 2 years ago I worked for a company where the owner had factored in all the costs. I had a price per square for class 2, 3 and 4 shingles, added in a waste allowance depending on slope, and the estimate was done. I didn't have to adjust my estimate for how much drip edge, ice and water, valleys, although I did have to track those measurements. I think we may have been allowed to customize our version of RC, but we have too many variations. I can't see labour costs for roofing and they are not included in my materials section. For siding and soft metals they are included. In some places we use square feet, in others linear feet, in others # of pieces. I would like to see more consistency. In my previous job, I measured the siding and soft metals, added for waste, and had a set price per sq ft for each type.. The subcontractor charged us a flat rate per sq ft, and he made sure he had sufficient j channels, corners, etc. It worked great for our non-insurance work (90% of our business) as people were willing to pay for quality work . I find that when I email the customer for electronic signature, a lot of times they don't receive it.
