It has helped myself and my coworkers in critical times. Pros This application has been great for both professional and personal use. I've had no problems with it and have enjoyed the software thoroughly! Cons I have to say, certain features were not as intuitive and I found myself seeking help on youtube to problem solve. Practice Manager Veterinary Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Free, Fast, and Easy" February 25, 2026 4.0 Our company has been using GroupMe for several years now in order to make announcements that are easily searchable in the future. While email will always be needed for formal communications, GroupMe acts as both a digital message board and sometimes like a digital intercom due to its phone notification features. Different departments in our hospital can post team specific announcements to their group as well as posting to the whole staff if needed. Direct messages are also available without having to exchange or keep personal cell phone numbers of every team member. Pros Free to use for our staff and allows for multiple different groups. Our different departments as well as our team as a whole are able to post communications and announcements easily with easy notification features. Cons The web interface previously allowed for multiple group chats to be displayed in one browser window. That recently changed to only allow one group per browser tab. The ability to interact with GroupMe through a web interface is great though, especially in areas where phone usage is not allowed. It has been a consistent tool for the past couple of years. The polling feature in GroupMe makes it very easy to plan activities. I have enjoyed using GroupMe and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future. Pros I like that GroupMe allows users to pin important topics in the chat to save them for later. I also really like the polling feature. Cons I feel like its hard to search through the photo gallery of groups in GroupMe. We did use a free version, but I ended up switching to a free version of ConnectTeam. Pros I liked the Event section-- creating an event was fun and looked great. It was easy to grab team's attention and I really enjoyed the fact that you could create an album specifically for people to post photos in from the event. I enjoyed being able to make memes right from the app too. Cons The app would never notify anyone when people would direct message or post something in the group chat. It was difficult to communicate and we couldn't really post good videos. Pros I like most about GroupMe is the ability to have large sized groups and it is not limited to the amount of people that can be in the group. Cons What I like least about GroupMe is that notifications are not always sent to the device as it should. " May 6, 2025 4.0 Overall, I have used numerous online messaging platforms and I think GroupMe is a great choice. There are minor issues to correct with the software, but overall it has been great and I have used it for almost five years for a variety of purposes. Pros I think GroupMe is a great instant messaging software to use for a variety of purposes, including work/personal/higher education and more. It is extremely easy to navigate and register for. Cons I think there are occasional glitches on the platform and sometimes newest messages do not load right away. While these do not change my opinion of the software greatly, I still think this is something to mention. I love the app. It is the best app I have used for group communication and it makes things so easy. Pros Love GroupMe. Excellent app for communication and sharing information with students or peeps. Have used the app for years. Cons Video sharing is difficult. As well as anything audio based. It can get laggy with large numbers of members. Since there is just one thread of conversation you can also sometimes have information get lost in the chaos and then people are asking the same questions over and over because they struggle to search back through the chat to find the information. Pros GroupMe is a nice product for its simplicity. People of all ages (from teenagers to seniors) have, in my experience, been able to navigate it easily. Cons I have had glitches with the GroupMe app vs website before. Oddly sometimes only one or the other would update. I'd have different messages in the app vs in the web browser. Sometimes in the app I'll click on a group or person's chat and it opens a completely different chat. I also wish there was more functionality within GroupMe. Other apps, like Band, have more functionality but, admittedly, are then more complicated for the users to figure out. Alternatives considered [Microsoft Teams](https://www.capterra.com/p/168668/Microsoft-Teams/) Reason for choosing GroupMe The above search function doesn't have The Band app as an option but that was my main other product but it turned out to be a little too complicated for some of our older stakeholders. There could be improvements made though. Sometimes there are features that I wish were added that could support better productivity. Pros I like that GroupMe is 100% free! It is a top of the line messaging platform that I believe is very efficient and not at all hard to use. Team chats are very well organized and can be used for a variety of reasons. The feature of making calendar events within chats is helpful. Cons Sometimes I will notice delays when sending messages, or someone will gave sent a message and I don't see it in real time. Cons It is the only app that I have ever accidentally sent a message to the wrong thread before. I am not sure why. Maybe the list of threads could be organized in a way that is more visual friendly? For example, my long distance extended family is all in a group and it keeps us all connected, as some of my family members do not have social media. I have also utilized GroupMe for my work team to stay connected and for different clubs I was a part of in school. Pros I like that Group me is a separate app for group messages as it limits the amount of notifications in my regular inbox. I also like that there are more customizable options, even if not everyone has an iPhone. Cons I do not like how GroupMe notifies the whole group when you leave. Send group communication. Pros What I enjoyed most about it was being able to collaborate with my team and 1 off message people. You can tag specific people in the group if you are talking directly to someone but within the group. You can also react to others messages. Cons GroupMe tends to notify you a lot, but that could go either way. If you don’t like this function, just silence your notifications. I’m not sure if GroupMe still does this, but if you did not reply within a certain period of time or a certain number of messages you got kicked out of the group. If this is still a feature that Brittany has, it might be a good idea to change it. Personally I prefer Slack, but GM was a fine alternative. Pros I appreciated the ability to send and receive real-time updates on work matters right to my smartphone Cons I disliked the ability for any of the coworkers to post in our channel. There may have been a setting that wasn’t applied, but my biggest pet level was receiving 74 notifications of employees wishing someone a happy birthday from a work channel. Review Source Daisy L.
