### "Great small app with big capabilities"

August 26, 2025

5.0

Overall I enjoy the application and love using it for work and with friends. It has helped myself and my coworkers in critical times.

Pros

This application has been great for both professional and personal use. I've had no problems with it and have enjoyed the software thoroughly!

Cons

I have to say, certain features were not as intuitive and I found myself seeking help on youtube to problem solve.

### "Large Group Messages"

July 14, 2025

4.0

My overall experience with GroupMe is good and it helps to keep communication between multiple teams easy.

Pros

I like most about GroupMe is the ability to have large sized groups and it is not limited to the amount of people that can be in the group.

Cons

What I like least about GroupMe is that notifications are not always sent to the device as it should.

### "Group Me and maybe lose one or two! "

April 20, 2026

4.0

We would consider using this product again if there were fewer lost users - when it worked it worked well!

Pros

We enjoyed using GroupMe for many, many months - ease of use and costs were big factors. We found team members of all ages were easily learning to use the platform.

Cons

Unfortunately, many users in our group reported loss of access and many were kicked out of groups on the platform causing lost time and data.

### "Easy to use but not much functionality"

January 28, 2025

3.0

Overall my experience with GroupMe has been positive, but I have had many frustrating moments when the app isn't updating correctly. Since there is just one thread of conversation you can also sometimes have information get lost in the chaos and then people are asking the same questions over and over because they struggle to search back through the chat to find the information.

Pros

GroupMe is a nice product for its simplicity. People of all ages (from teenagers to seniors) have, in my experience, been able to navigate it easily.

Cons

I have had glitches with the GroupMe app vs website before. Oddly sometimes only one or the other would update. I'd have different messages in the app vs in the web browser. Sometimes in the app I'll click on a group or person's chat and it opens a completely different chat. I also wish there was more functionality within GroupMe. Other apps, like Band, have more functionality but, admittedly, are then more complicated for the users to figure out.

Alternatives considered

[Microsoft Teams](https://www.capterra.com/p/168668/Microsoft-Teams/)

Reason for choosing GroupMe

The above search function doesn't have The Band app as an option but that was my main other product but it turned out to be a little too complicated for some of our older stakeholders. Other products, such as Microsoft Teams, cost money.

### "Free, Fast, and Easy"

February 25, 2026

4.0

Our company has been using GroupMe for several years now in order to make announcements that are easily searchable in the future. While email will always be needed for formal communications, GroupMe acts as both a digital message board and sometimes like a digital intercom due to its phone notification features. Different departments in our hospital can post team specific announcements to their group as well as posting to the whole staff if needed. Direct messages are also available without having to exchange or keep personal cell phone numbers of every team member.

Pros

Free to use for our staff and allows for multiple different groups. Our different departments as well as our team as a whole are able to post communications and announcements easily with easy notification features.

Cons

The web interface previously allowed for multiple group chats to be displayed in one browser window. That recently changed to only allow one group per browser tab. The ability to interact with GroupMe through a web interface is great though, especially in areas where phone usage is not allowed.

### "GroupMe is Overall Pretty Great! "

May 6, 2025

4.0

Overall, I have used numerous online messaging platforms and I think GroupMe is a great choice. There are minor issues to correct with the software, but overall it has been great and I have used it for almost five years for a variety of purposes.

Pros

I think GroupMe is a great instant messaging software to use for a variety of purposes, including work/personal/higher education and more. It is extremely easy to navigate and register for.

Cons

I think there are occasional glitches on the platform and sometimes newest messages do not load right away. While these do not change my opinion of the software greatly, I still think this is something to mention.

Switched from

[Slack](https://www.capterra.com/p/135003/Slack/)

GroupMe is better for higher education as I am in graduate school, I feel it is more used than Slack. I also believe it has more features than Slack because Slack can only be used with your work team.

### "Best group communication app"

May 29, 2025

5.0

Amazing. I love the app. It is the best app I have used for group communication and it makes things so easy.

Pros

Love GroupMe. Excellent app for communication and sharing information with students or peeps. Have used the app for years.

Cons

Video sharing is difficult. As well as anything audio based. It can get laggy with large numbers of members.

### "GROUPME REVIEW"

January 12, 2026

5.0

I love groupme. I use it for so many organizations I am involved with. It's an excellent way to communicate and to plan.

Pros

I love groupie because I can keep in touch with a group of people for events, zooms, meetings, etc. I can also add polls, calendar events, tag people and add them by email or phone number to the group. Its perfect for business or recreational!

Cons

Sometimes when a person adds you to GroupMe through text messages, it comes through in as an sms. It's clunky and it's kind of analog. And it comes through with everybody's messages. And it's hard to remove yourself from it because someone else added you this way. And there doesn't seem to be an unsubscribe button for it. You have to go into GroupMe and remove yourself.

### "Great cross-platform messaging app for larger groups"

January 3, 2026

5.0

Compared to competitors GroupMe is the best for large groups, especially if some don't have SMS or are travelling international. It's easy to use with a simple interface and works cross-platform. However, it lack good media quality for attachments and there are security issues.

Pros

I love that GroupMe is free and connects iPhone and Android users. It's perfect for large groups, easy to use and has a good amount of features including, gifs, location, file/photo attachments and emojis.

Cons

Calling can be difficult since it uses Microsoft teams, and it does not have a video calling option. Furthermore, it does have a low media quality since it uses native camera. It also lacks some features like pinned messages. There's also no end-to-end encryption. If your making a public group, its very easy for spammers to join and flood the chats.

### "GroupMe for team communication "

August 26, 2023

5.0

Group Me has been super smooth. All the parents quickly get use to the functionality and communicate effectively during the season.

Pros

Having every parents picture and name is so much smoother than a group text with random numbers in it.

Cons

The web based app doesn’t always work when adding numbers. Copying and pasting numbers from a list to the app is cumbersome.

### "GroupMe Is Fine for Individual Use, but Not Business Use"

February 10, 2023

3.0

Some good features, but overall not the best solution to group text management and communications.

Pros

GroupMe does have some decent features. It allows you to connect with people using wifi instead of data, and you can include those who don't have the app in chats, and they will still get SMS messages, unlike some other applications that exclude outside users. You can add people based on email or phone number to invite them to chats.

Cons

There is little to no moderation. From a business aspect, we initially used GroupMe to try and unify a work chat for important announcements, communication, etc. However, we quickly found that, without an admin feature, chats would get bogged down, important communications would get lost in the general shuffle, and documents would get missed with the overwhelming amount of messages. There were no pinning feature, no admin moderation options, etc. And there isn't a desktop version to be used in the office setting. Overall I am sure it's a decent app for individuals who are looking for an alternative to a limited texting plan, but not well suited for business uses.

Switched from

[Telegram](https://www.capterra.com/p/180347/Telegram/)

We switched from GroupMe to Telegram, as Telegram's software is much more conducive to a workplace environment, and they offer a ton of additional features to help moderate and keep important announcements fresh and pinned in conversations.

### "Great way to stay in touch."

January 21, 2025

5.0

Overall, I am happy using the groupme app.

Pros

I like how Groupme makes it easy to keep in touch with everyone. We have a management team that's spread out over multiple states and we can easily keep each other updated in this one spot.

Cons

For me personally, sometimes my app says I have new messages that don't want to show up.

### "Perfect for Scouts"

October 14, 2024

5.0

We use it for our Scout pack, it's great when we are coordinating meetings or campouts!

Pros

I love that it texts you when someone sends a message to your group chat. I like that you can privately message people in your chat without having to give over your #.

Cons

Sometimes if you private message someone from a group it doesn't alert them all the time. Messages can go unread.

### "Good for basic communication, lacks end to end encryption"

October 22, 2024

3.0

I have used GroupMe with some church groups and it is great for communicating with others about events, however once any mission trips were involved to other countries we no longer could depend on the app due to lack or encryption.

Pros

GroupMe has a really good user interface and is good for communicating with large groups

Cons

No end to end encryption. If you are wanting to keep your communication private this is not the app.

### "Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid group chat app for anyone to use!"

November 2, 2021

5.0

We’ve used GroupMe for years for communication within our team, which fluctuates in size between about 20-30 people. Again, it’s really quite simple to use, almost anyone can learn it, and it’s a great way to push out announcements, events, promotions, etc to the entire team at once. I like that groups can be silenced, so you don’t keep receiving notifications from groups with tons of people in it, but it can still remain in your list of chats so you can check it as much or as little as you’d like.

Pros

What I liked most was that it works well for what it was intended for. Once it’s installed and you have your profile, it is incredibly easy to start a direct or group chat. You can also search for chats, or be invited. It is very simple to use for group or team communication.

Cons

Sometimes inviting people to group chats become a bit of a struggle, mostly when they have never used or installed the app before. For some reason there were times when I’d invite someone via text or other means, and the person would download the app and create a profile, but couldn’t find or join the chat. We always got it figured out, but it just seems like that process should be smoother.
