I would say that the system is not overly complicated when it comes to inputting and saving information. I have not had any system shutdowns or pauses while using it either. I like that you can see the results of certain diagnostic tests, as well as other tests even if they were not ordered by your physician. It's stable and Cerner helps maintain a lot of it. We use all of the applications available and have been so pleased. Cons It's a whole system, so downtime includes taking everything down. You can't do it piece by piece. This causes downtime for the entire organization. The Cerner educators were very friendly and knowledgeable about the products. Cons The thing I most disliked was the seemingly ever updating changes that we endured. By far the simplest EMR system I've used in my career. Cons The program is very click intensive. It generally takes 3 or 4 extra clicks to accomplish simple tasks. Such as, open one box, click to open another box within the first box, then open a charging option, then chart, click to save and then refresh to score the data in patients chart. Cons I didn't like that when a new encounter was created because they stepped down to IOP level of care, that everything in their chart got erased and needed to start over. It was really easy to navigate and for other departments to see exactly what was going on, not just our department. Cons The only thing I didn't like is that it would time out if you didn't use it fast enough. But that was just a slight irritation. Review Source JL Josh L. Surgeon Medical Practice Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "A cumbersome, poorly designed EMR " November 30, 2016 2.0 The software is poorly designed, difficult to navigate, and generally feels like it was designed by engineers who have never worked in a health care setting. The software is not intuitive to use, creates extra steps to execute simple orders, and is filled with programming glitches that can't seem to be fixed by their "extensive" support staff. I found many of the MD support staff to not even understand or be able to navigate the program because they use Epic in their daily practice. Overall the software feels dated. The design team should spend some time using Apple products to learn about ease of use. Pros The support staff is kind, but often not helpful. Cons The software is difficult to use. It is not intuitive. Simple commands require multiple steps to execute. You are required to manually "refresh" to send orders, even after signing. It has created more work for the doctors at my institution, taking simple tasks that previously could be performed by support staff and making them an additional responsibility of the MD. The seemless interface with the dragon dictation device really speeds up charting. I’ve noticed a significant decrease in my charting time when compared to previous EMRs I’ve used. I had previously used EpicCare. There is definitely some getting used to, so take my review with a grain of salt. Like every new thing, there is some mental shifting from what one is used to to a new thing. This is easy to use. My coworkers seem to like this software. It is straight and to the point. Cons I really liked how customizable and attractive Epic was. I would appreciate if this software had more colorful themes and was more customizable to me.
