I did some research before using this service and found out that this is the most demanded container ochestration service available and after using this with my experience, I can say that is true.

Pros

Very flexible service where we can choose to run our containers and it is highly scalable. This is highly available and we can ensure that the service is always running. I am using EC2 instances and cloud watch integrated with container service.

Cons

I think the complexity of learning about how to use this service was the main difficulty that I faced because I haven't used any container ochestration service before.

I have only used Amazon ECS for few months in my current employment and I found it as a tool that saves our time a lot.

Pros

As developers, this help us to integrate with docker and manage the docker containers on either EC2 instances or fargate depending on our preference. We can check the health status of containers and can manage on premises container workloads.

Cons

For larger deployments, set-up and configure tasks are somewhat complex.

It has been few months since I started using amazon elastic container service to manage docker containers and this saves my time a lot.

Pros

We can easily scale up or down based on the demand and it provides a fully completed solution for deploying and managing containerized applications. This gives multiple security features like limiting access to the docker containers using IAM roles.

Cons

The disadvantage I see is the cost. It is very costly for organizations that are not already using AWS services.

I have used several amazon services in my career and started using amazon ECS recently to run our backend projects.

Pros

This is highly scalable and high performance service where we can run our projects an tests on docker containers. Security for those containers is a must. Since ECS is integrated with amazon IAM, we can enable permissions and restrict access levels for each container. All we have to do is configure things and deploying and the rest of the things will be managed by AWS.

Cons

First I felt like some navigations are bit complex and not user friendly.

I was able to work with several amazon cloud products till I joined the current company. Among those, I'm using amazon ECS service to run our projects and virtual machines.

Pros

ECS clusters handle the containers and monitor the clusters. It integrates with management tools and security tools which amazon has and that develop our trust regarding the ECS. Also this has several scheduling mechanisms where we can schedule batch processing jobs and long time running processes.

Cons

When I started using ECS, I had zero knowledge. I had to go through documentations and tutorials to get knowledge. So as a starter, there is a big learning curve.

I love Amazon. It holds me back from running all over town to search for things and you can quite often track down things less expensive on Amazon.

Pros

My items I got where up to norm and was a day ahead of schedule. Amazon has never bombed me, other than the Visas you should must have an ideal FICO rating to get any card on Amazon which is a very bummer.

Cons

Assuming that I at any point run into an issue, I contact the confidential dealer and every one of my issues are addressed by the vender.

Pros

I enjoyed how well it integrates with other AWS tools including CloudFormation and EC2. It is indeed quite hard to maintain and configure ECS, but it seems to be so with other tools used to manage containers.

Cons

It includes substantially less features than Kubernetes for example and it is not cloud agnostic.

Our original setup at AWS was heavily OpsWorks/Chef based. But as the Docker ecosystem has grown over the past 5 years, we've moved almost everything over to using a CodePipeline/CodeBuild/ECS system. Most of this has to do with the advantages Docker has: no recipes to keep up to date, no scripts to debug, local instances look identical to what runs on staging/prod, so deploys have fewer hiccups. Clearly AWS feels the same way -- if you look at the OpsWorks control panel today, you'll see it's not getting a lot of love from Amazon these days. Once you wrap your head around the multiple layers of abstractions, it just works. But that's not always easy. Code Pipeline runs Builds in CodeBuild, that result in containers that get put into tasks that are running on instances. At least, that's how I think it works :) So it can be hard to track down exactly where your code is running: you have to not just find the instance, but then the container on that instance. And one instance may be running a load of containers. But that's ok -- virtualization is what you should be doing anyway. ECS helps you manage the relationships between these containers and the instances they live on in one simple spot. Like everything at AWS, the interface takes some getting used to -- and it's very easy to get lost in the 6 clicks it takes to get from one place to the next. But the power of ECS cannot be denied.

Pros

\* Containers are so much easier to manage than Chef recipes \* Docker ecosystem is growing; OpsWorks is not \* Integrates nicely with CodePipeline \* Running containers locally not different at all from running on prod

Cons

\* Not always easy to find the specific task/instance you want \* Levels of abstraction are hard to wrap your head around sometimes

Switched from

[AWS OpsWorks](https://www.capterra.com/p/234840/AWS-OpsWorks/)

OpsWorks feels like it's no longer supported at AWS. It still works, but the UI is kind of off-kilter, and some of our projects will no longer build properly because they seem to have issues with changes that have been made to git. We are going to migrate everything off of OpsWorks and onto ECS eventually.
