Pros Living in Canada while most of my extended family, including my grandparents, uncles, and aunts, live in India, Remitly has become an important part of my life. My wife's parents also live in India, so we use Remitly regularly to support both our families. The app is very easy to use, transfers are secure, and most Express transfers reach within seconds. Whether it's an emergency, a festival, or someone's birthday, I know I can send money instantly. One memory that means a lot to me is our niece's first birthday. December 28, 2025 1.0 I had a very poor experience with Remitly. What was presented as a fast, reliable transfer turned into delays, confusion, and extremely frustrating customer support with them not only repeatedly requesting additional banking and incorporation documents but repeatedly saying I had not provided it, even though I sent it in more than once. I never did receive fund and was stranded on the highway with it looking like we were going to miss Christmas with our family. My funds were held up without clear explanation, timelines kept changing, and getting accurate information from support was not forthcoming even when they transferred me to a Manager. This created unnecessary stress, especially since money transfers are time sensitive and require trust. While Remitly markets speed and reliability, my experience did not reflect that at all. After 6 days I finally gave up and am now using Wise. Transparency was lacking with Remitly, and the resolution process felt slow and impersonal. Based on this experience, I would not rely on Remitly again for important or time critical transfers. Pros Well, when I started using them, it wasn't this year but they had deteriorated over the years, and haven't been able to solve their problems. Furthermore, they are fast and allow for a wide variety of payment and receipt methods, including cash. Cons Sometimes the price difference is too large when you want to change your payment method. Multiple contacts, same result: I reached out repeatedly, provided all requested info within minutes each time. One agent claimed they had “manually verified” my ID, but my account status and banners never updated. The next agent said the transfer was still under review and that I had to answer additional questions in my profile. Wasted hours of my time that I don't have to try to make this test payment work. No proactive communication: I only learned about new requirements by initiating chats; there were no notifications from Remitly. Business impact: I needed this completed days ago, or at least some confirmation it BEGAN. The inconsistency and delays cost me time and trust. I canceled the transfer and will not be using Remitly for any of my four businesses and I hope you don't either. They updated me that I can cancel my transaction as the amount was not deducted from my bank account. Else it will be refunded in 2-3 working days. So I proceed with cancelling the transfer. I waited 4-5 days and contacted remitly customer support for my transaction and they updated like it will take 10 days to get refund. I had urgency as I wanted to send money to my parents back home. I would never suggest anyone to go with remitly. They just want to earn with your money in investing. It was a very bad experience, please go with other apps for money transfer. Pros Good transfer rate. But was not happy when I cancelled my transfer. Cons Remitly is bad at refunds. First, they said they couldn't send funds to missions individually. I would have to be a business to do that. So, they changed my account to a business account. Then they told me I couldn't send funds as a business account; it had to be personal. Cons They are so confused and have allowed me to send money globally, but now they say they can't do that because they are not authorized. Then what have they been doing with my transfers for the last two years? I started a transaction on \[sensitive content hidden\] to send money to a Zain Cash mobile wallet in Jordan. Today is , and the issue is still unresolved. This has been a very disappointing experience. Here’s what happened: I transferred money to a Zain Cash wallet, but instead of it being deposited there, I received an SMS from Umniah saying the funds were deposited. I don’t have an Umniah service on my number. The SMS mentioned "Al Alami Financial," which I believe is the third-party service Remitly used. It seems they used the CliQ service, which I don’t have an account for, instead of the wallet transfer service I requested. I provided Remitly with all the details and supporting documents they asked for, but I still haven’t gotten a satisfactory response or resolution. It’s been over two months since the transaction, and my money is still missing. This experience has been extremely stressful. I expected better service from Remitly, especially since transferring money to family abroad is so important. I hope this review helps others who are thinking about using Remitly.
