### "Indispensable online treatment management that works seamlessly for doctors + nurses"

March 24, 2023

5.0

Excellent experience-having used paper treatment sheets and other online treatment systems, Instinct is far superior. It is easy to use and helps with hospital flow for both doctors and nurses. Helps ensure patients are receiving timely treatments, VASTLY decreases likelihood of medication errors with the help of Plumbs integration, and is aesthetically pleasing.

Pros

It is incredibly intuitive to use and took little training. I can easily create treatment plans as a doctor, see vital signs, immediately see important patient alerts, change doctors, assign a patient to myself I'm working on....the list goes on. It is an amazing software that has made my life in vet med much easier to navigate - both as a nurse, and now as a doctor!

Cons

I have few cons - the main one is that it is hard to see the total # of doses of a certain medication a patient has received during its hospitalization stay. Would love a screen that brings up all formulations/doses of a medication at once.

### "Instinct is the way to go!"

September 5, 2025

5.0

Excellent and honestly one of a kind. Customer support has always been exceptional and they are always willing to listen and hear the suggestions the hospitals have and make the improvements!!

Pros

The ease of the software, it is very user friendly and visually appealing. The workflow has improved and communication in patient treatments.

Cons

Some features were not available that the previous PIMS software had, but the bonus is Instinct is always willing to make changes and support is one of a kind!

### "Getting better as time goes on, user friendly "

May 27, 2026

5.0

I love it, I asked my new hospital (when they were building it from scratch) to considering using it as I feel it is very user friendly and adaptable

Pros

online customer support so I don't have to sit on the phone is great; very nice to have all things in one system instead of one thing for inpatient management and another for charges etc

Cons

it can be cumbersome to edit some things - understandable since they want to make sure things aren't inaccurate from a treatment sense but can still be annoying

### "Owner, veterinarian"

April 30, 2025

4.0

Glad we choose instinct as our operating system for our new business. It has made improvements over the last 3 years.

Pros

Easy of use, customizable, all information in 1 place. Integrates with Cubex for controlled substances.

Cons

Patient photos. Would like it to integrate with Idexx radiology. Invoicing has a learning curve. Need a strong office manager to train CSRs.

Alternatives considered

[IDEXX Neo](https://www.capterra.com/p/145988/IDEXX-Neo/)

Reason for choosing Instinct Science

As an ER we knew we needed Tx plans. At the time I was only aware of Smart Flow, but it did not have an EMR and you had to purchase Neo. I did not like the idea of having 2 separate systems. And Neo seemed less customizable.

### "I love Instinct"

September 5, 2025

5.0

Overall- I love that our practice moved to using Instinct. As someone who has used many vet software programs, it is the one that is actually useful for the vet staff. As a technician, I love the treatment sheet use and the anesthesia record. As a teacher, it is user-intuitative, so it is easy to teach to new staff, and easy to find resolutions to any questions

Pros

love the customer support and the ease of use- it is user intuative. Even if you have a question, they are quick to answer or come up with a solution. Even people who are new to vet med find the program easy to use!

Cons

integration with some of our blood machines- although it is being worked on. Specifically Lytes and iStat

### "Instinct Science - a great experience"

April 29, 2025

5.0

The experience with Instinct Science has been wonderful. The team was very willing to help and keep on goal during on boarding and were helpful after with any questions or concerns.

Pros

What I like most about Instinct Science is their willingness to grow and improve. Feedback is always accepted and explored. The massive improvements over the past 3 years in functioning, integrations, and growth have made my job much easier.

Cons

This is a difficult questions because of Instinct Science's willingness to take feedback and act on feedback. When there is a place for improvement I submit the information and have seen action on many of the requests.

### "Best Cloud Based PIMS around!"

April 29, 2025

5.0

My onboarding experience was the smoothest ever! Our case manager thought of everything, helped with all the uploads, made relevant suggestions on how to create new protocols and work around. Since then they have been there when we need them and we love it!

Pros

Instinct is intuitive, constantly adapting to what we need and request. Their staff is top notch, none better in the field. It is easy to use, cloud based and the staff loves it!

Cons

Currently the owner chat function could use some updating, but it is on the list and I am sure we will see something new soon!

### "Great Option for 24H Hospital"

April 28, 2025

5.0

It has been a wonderful improvement from our prior practice management software. The team loves it and management has all the data needed. It is exactly what we needed for our busy 24h hospital.

Pros

It is intuitive, flexible and offers a wide range of reports and management focused data. Our medical team is able to customize templates to their preferances and finds the integration with our medical services and referral partners seamless. There is a robust self training program available for new team members that gets them up to speed quickly and great product support anytime we have questions.

Cons

There are a lot of options and set up takes some time to ensure things are working best for your hospitals needs. It is wonderful once you spend the time setting it up.

### "LOVE this platform"

July 2, 2025

5.0

I love it, tell people that I love it and convinced my surgeon friend who opened his own practice to use it as his main practice management software.

Pros

Being able to easily send feedback and request app updates and features through the app itself in instant-messaging fashion. Makes it easy to ask for things when I think of them so I don't forget, and so I don't avoid doing it just so I can skip a phone call.

Cons

The anesthesia sheet print-outs (or computer-generated attachments) print out VERYA long, like 15-30 pages depending on how long the procedure was. But then again I focus on anesthesia, and only have used it for ax mode and inpatient mode so far.

### "Instinct Veterinary Management Software"

December 20, 2024

5.0

We have been with Instinct since their early days (treatment sheets only) and have appreciated their willingness to listen to their users and make timely adjustments when needed. Love the whole package for Charting, Treatment Sheets and Analytics.

Pros

Simple to navigate and thereby easy to train others for day-to-day charting and accounting, responsive and helpful tech. support when needed, very receptive to feedback and integrating outside ideas into reality.

Cons

At first, some of the integrations (especially with Cubex once we switched our management software to Instinct) were troublesome, but problems have been resolved.

We saw a presentation on the product (treatment sheet) and it looked like it would better fit our needs as an Emergency/Specialty practice. After further investigation, we signed on and have loved the progression of service offerings.

### "SHOULD be the industry standard"

April 28, 2025

5.0

When we opened, almost none of our staff (including myself, the practice manager) had worked in veterinary care before or used any other practice management system. There was a lot of training before opening, but training and actual usage are different. The first weekend we were open, they were available the entire time we were open (10 hours a day) in case we needed any help. By that I mean we had a dedicated person on a video call for the entire time we were open, 40 hours total, that first weekend. I understand that, often, they will actually send someone TO the clinic for transitions. That level of service has never abated.

Pros

Instinct is simple, easy to learn and easy to use. They're constantly adapting to improve a service that was already excellent. The vet who opened the clinic had practiced for 15 years in urgent and emergency care prior to opening the clinic. She hadn't encountered Instinct until working as a relief vet. With no training, she was immediately able to use Instinct in the clinics that had it. When she did open her own clinic, there was no other practice management system she even considered. Tech support is top tier. I cannot praise it enough.

Cons

They have a new AI assistant that is kind of the gatekeeper for tech support. It's not unhelpful, but I am old and generally untrustworthy of AI. I'm one of those guys who adds profanity into my Google search terms to bypass any AI answers. However, it's not terribly difficult to bypass it and talk to a person. Also, some new services are subscription based, but they're optional and unnecessary if you don't want them.

### "Instinct will cure your treatment sheet woes "

September 5, 2025

5.0

Great; wonderful support team. Easy to navigate checking in new patients is a breeze and is easy to do rapid registration for emergent patients.

Pros

Medical records are very user friendly especially for the not "computer elite". Treatments sheets are clean nd organized and have a ton of fail safes to prevent incorrect dosing or double medicating.

Cons

Functionality on tablets/ Ipad is limited. Would help a lot with critical patients to have a more bed side option.

Pros

I love your guys' shit! Keep up the solid work. So effiicient, so stream-lined and integrative. -Dr. Jordan A Marcus

Cons

Wish there was an easier way to track patient weights. Wish there was a way for associates to track our production, not just admins.

### "Great overall"

September 6, 2025

5.0

I've had a great experience with Instinct whiteboard and with Standards. I love the client handouts in Standards and literally use it everytime I work.

Pros

It is very easy to use and shows everything very clearly. I also love that the formulary is built right in and easy to access.

Cons

The way my practice has it set up. We didn't think everything through when implementing it. I do wish the team helping with the set up worked with our management more on better ways to implement it.

### "Treatment sheets make it all worth it"

August 17, 2025

4.0

Overall, Instinct is a solid choice for a 24 hour ER as the treatment sheets make everything else worth it.

Pros

The treatment sheets are above and beyond anyone else's. This is by far the best part of this software.

Cons

The rest of the PIMs is a little more clunky and the medical records sent to other hospitals are cluttered and a bit harder to interpret.

September 5, 2025

5.0

Pros

I love that this product had built in safety features. I utilized it with students and training doctors alike. This product was aesthetically pleasing and made it easy to determine how to prioritize patient treatments. This product is surpassed any other electronic treatment plan system that I’ve worked with.

Cons

I wish that I was able to take pictures of patients lab work in the system to have an electronically upload to be viewed outside the clinic.

Great! I find it easy to use and train new staff members. Nurses love using it because it’s organized

Pros

Highly recommend, we used to use paper treatment sheets but now since we have switched to Instinct it's so much easier.

Pros

The treatment plans are so helpful, I love that Plumbs monograph is fully integrated into the product, very visually appealing and easy to understand.

Cons

It can be difficult to see all of the orders/having to scroll to see things, having things be missed accidentally. It would be great if there was some sort of pop up message to communicate with the rest of the team when new orders have been put in for a patient.

### "Get Instinct for your UC/ER, IMMEDIATELY."

December 20, 2024

5.0

Absolutely fabulous, in many ways it has made our hospital safer and communication easier not only between individual coworkers, but between departments. It's easy to navigate and learn to use, flexible in how it is used so that different people can communicate in the manner most comfortable to them.

Pros

Visual feedback (color change) when orders and treatments are scheduled, due, overdue, and completed. Easy to edit times of administration/completion or events such as stroke/sz if entering information after stabilizing a patient or performing a sedated procedure. Options to place notes under individual treatment items to describe specifics such as food type eaten, BM consistency, nature of gait on walk, frequency of cough, character of respiration, etc. In total, it has enough rigidity to make a treatment plan a firm guideline, but enough flexibility to account for the variability of an ER and ICU environment.

Cons

Occasionally difficult to see, in the scrollover/popup order view, if an order is PRN or mandatory. Ex: PRN trazodone still shows up as scheduled when rolling over an 8:00 treatment hour, but without the "PRN" visible until you click on the trazodone order specifically to look at treatment notes. Also occasionally, the lag time for the "tagged to" symbol to appear on a patient's chart is slow, so multiple coworkers have started to work on the same patient without realizing it.

### "Instinct is worth looking into"

December 23, 2024

5.0

Fantastic program. Makes having patients in various parts of a large hospital easier to manage.

Pros

When we first adopted Instinct for our large specialty and ER clinic, I was not sure I was going to like it. And while there was a learning curve, I cant imagine how we did things without it in the past. Sure, one of the main features/points is for charge capture, which is important, I am more of the how does it help me do my job. I love that I can pull up my patients treatment sheet anywhere in the hospital and make additions when I think of them rather than the next time I find myself in ICU.

Cons

The logic behind some of the codes still eludes me. To this day I can never remember what misc owner medications is under. I do wish you could edit those fields to things that are more logical to your own mind rather what someone thought made sense many years ago.

December 27, 2024

Fantastic team to work with. Always willing to work toward a solution that works best for our hospital and patient care.

Pros

Super easy to use and the support team is amazing to work with.

Cons

Enhancement request prioritization has fallen off for those using the Treatment Plan version to make room for users of the EMR. My hospital is not ready for the EMR system but we would still like to see some of the requested updates made for the Tx plan version.
