Pros

The most praised, modern features of AWS Systems Manager (SSM) are its unified cross-account/region dashboard, Amazon Q Developer integration for natural language queries, and one-click agent troubleshooting. Users heavily favor the ability to replace bastion hosts with secure Session

Cons

primary drawbacks of AWS Systems Manager are its overwhelming complexity, steep learning curve, and the "hodgepodge" nature of its, at times, overlapping tools.

Overall, I think that it streamlines things and boosts productivity by dramatically reducing the need to SSH into machines individually.

Pros

I think AWS Systems Manager shines in automation, visibility, and centralized control, and I like how it provides a single pane of glass to manage EC2 instances, on-prem servers and hybrid environments

Cons

My least favorite thing is that the interface isn’t always intuitive. Some features are buried in menus, and documentation often requires cross-referencing multiple AWS pages.

It is a powerful, indispensable, but complex tool. Once I have it set up properly, it is amazing, but getting to that point can be trying.

Pros

I love being able to connect to my EC2 instances instantly via the console or CLI, completely secured by IAM policies.

Cons

The sidebar is packed with too many features. It can be hard to find what I need, and it feels unintuitive for first-time users.

I really liked it, not many competitors' for these kind of tools, and AWS is probably the best I have used.

Great for getting HPC capabilities without actually needed the physical infrastructure which is too expensive for a smaller company.

Cons

Pricing can be confusing and the costs the go up quickly. There is also quite a steep learning curve.

Overall, AWS Systems Manager is a powerful and robust tool for infrastructure management and automation. While it has a learning curve, once properly configured it significantly improves operational efficiency, security, and visibility across managed resources

Pros

Centralizes management of EC2 and on-premises servers in one place. Patch Manager, Session Manager, and Automation greatly reduce manual operational work and improve security. Tight integration with other AWS services and IAM makes it reliable and scalable for enterprise environments

Cons

Initial setup and configuration can be complex, especially around IAM permissions and hybrid environments. The interface is not always intuitive, and troubleshooting failures can be time-consuming due to limited or unclear error messages.
