### "AWS Systems Manager : A Reliable Tool for Centralized AWS Operation"

July 25, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience with AWS systems manager has been very positive. It has streamlined day-to-day infrastructure managment through a single centralized platform capable for automating patches, installation, configuration of software monitoring of our ec2 instance and secure access to the server without the need to open any ports. while sometimes the intials setup might feel a bit overwhelming but AWS offers a lot of document and learning materials to learn for new comers. Coming to the price, it bare minimum compare to any other products we only pay for the resource that we use. It is valuable service in AWS for managing AWS infrastructure.

Pros

AWS System manager is a all-in-one place service where we can manage multiple ec2 instance in your environment from one place whether we want to update the OS or install some software we can dino all this from a single page without the need to login into every server. Apart from this the most important feature is the session manager that enable to have a secure access to the required server without the need to open any port this significantly improves the security posture of our infrastructure there are many other features like parameter store used to store paramenters, Run command, patch manager for patching etc. Overall AWS system manager is one of the key to automate let us do multiple task in a automated approach.

Cons

AWS systems manager is great service which allow us to automate tasks without the need to login into each server although for making this automation work we need to configure the required IAM policy and install the SSM agent into every server which might sometimes feels a bit heavy also if we want to access any private server we need to configure a private endpoint to Systems manager to enable the access this might be a little complex for new comers however one can easily learn this over time.

### "Once You Learn It, You’ll Wonder How You Ever Managed AWS Without It"

October 7, 2025

4.0

Once you get over the initial setup curve, AWS Systems Manager becomes your control tower for everything AWS. It saves time, boosts security, and just makes managing infrastructure less painful. I wish I had started using it earlier, it would’ve saved a ton of late nights.

Pros

1\. Centralized management of EC2 and hybrid servers. 2. Secure remote access through Session Manager. 3. Strong automation capabilities using Runbooks. 4. Integrates seamlessly with IAM, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail. 5. Improves visibility and compliance reporting.

Cons

1\. The interface can be confusing for first-time users. 2. Documentation is thorough but not beginner-friendly. 3. Some features (like OpsCenter) require deeper AWS knowledge to configure properly.

It was messy, error-prone and extremely time-consuming. Losing track of SSH keys and inconsistent patching was a constant headache.

### "Let's Get to Managing!"

July 30, 2026

4.0

We used AWS Systems Manager for several years across our infrastructure before moving in a different architectural direction, and overall, it was a very dependable workhorse. It brought much-needed structure, security, and automation to our server maintenance routines. While the UI had a learning curve and the ticketing capabilities were simple, its remote access, patch management, and deep feature set made it an indispensable tool for our team during the time we used it.

Pros

When we were managing large EC2 fleets and hybrid servers, AWS Systems Manager was an absolute lifesaver. Session Manager gave us secure, hassle free remote access without the need to maintain risky bastion hosts or juggle SSH keys. The automated patch management and custom patch baselines made keeping our server environments compliant practically effortless. On top of that, it offered incredible value for money. Most core features were included at no extra cost, saving us tons of engineering hours.

Cons

Ease of use during the initial setup was a bit rough. Getting the SSM agent properly configured across every node and getting IAM permissions right took some trial and error. Additionally, the built-in ticket management (OpsCenter) felt a bit basic compared to dedicated ITSM platforms like Jira, so we eventually had to integrate external tools for ticketing. Also, when we needed assistance troubleshooting agent disconnects, response quality from AWS customer support varied depending on our support plan level at the time.

My overall experience was good and it did make the tasks a lot easier to manage and time saving which was the best part

Pros

The best thing is the centralized management capability that we get while using AWS system manager which let us control and automate the tasks and make the work a lot easier.

5.0

Overall, AWS Systems Manager is a powerful and robust tool for infrastructure management and automation. While it has a learning curve, once properly configured it significantly improves operational efficiency, security, and visibility across managed resources

Pros

Centralizes management of EC2 and on-premises servers in one place. Patch Manager, Session Manager, and Automation greatly reduce manual operational work and improve security. Tight integration with other AWS services and IAM makes it reliable and scalable for enterprise environments

Cons

Initial setup and configuration can be complex, especially around IAM permissions and hybrid environments. The interface is not always intuitive, and troubleshooting failures can be time-consuming due to limited or unclear error messages.

Overall, the experience with AWS is good and manageable inbound/outbound calls except for some hickups like inbound call list.

Pros

AWS inbound call list is the best feature I like about AWS because I can see the person calling and phone number they call from.

Cons

Sometimes it does ring once then hup, and sometimes it doesnt sync with artiva and had to restart everything again. Recently issue like inbound call list is not populating.

Very positive. Use key management and incident/change management tools all the time. Love appconfig

Pros

There are so many tools for managing your applications operations and availability here; the best part is almost all of them are packaged into the free tier—very little cost to consumers

Cons

Because there are so many tools, it’s kind of hard to believe they should be packaged together. Kind of difficult to explain change management to someone who hasn’t done it, but most of the tools adhere to best practices
