AWS OpsWorks Reviews
"Manage all your servers in a single stance"
Overall: AWS OpsWorks let us automatically patch, create backups, update or visualize metrics in real time for all our instances, apps and servers inside the AWS infrastructure within a single place. It also allow us to implement automatic packages installation for newly created instances or future projects.
Pros: The simplicity on which you can give maintenance to around 5 services while constantly updating their configurations and versions. We also adjust metrics for different clusters of the same instance, making this AWS service optimum for this function. In any case, a rollback (changing to a previous version) can be done in no more than 3 clicks. It contains a history of the previous versions and packages.
Cons: The service improved a lot this recent years due to its wide and active community. There is nothing to dislike here.
"AWS OpsWorks is the best"
Overall: Overall, AWS is a great software for what I used it for. It runs great.
Pros: I like how easy it was to use and super user friendly.
Cons: One thing I didn't like is that it lost connection a lot.
"If you are an admin it is incredible the savings you will get."
Overall: Frustrating because it is very different at the architectural level. The best thing is the resource balancing and the possibility of repeating configurations in different machines in a fast way.
Pros: The most repetitive tasks are eliminated once you understand the automations. My level is not expert, but once understood I have replicated it for OS and DB. You can scale instances depending on the project, the day and even the time of day.
Cons: Very difficult to learn. It has a very high learning curve. It is true that the customer service is very good and they have helped me with the basic tasks. I have to dedicate 1 more year to it, for sure,
