An essential tool if you want the convenience of cloud storage but prefer strong encryption. Pros Cryptomator is incredibly easy to use, cloud agnostic, and is truly end-to-end. I want a solution where I can manage my own keys, and this is it. Cons I'd prefer a bit more native Mac-support. The app certainly feels cross-platform, which might be fine on Windows and Linux but is a regression from the experience Mac users are accustomed to. Pros Cryptomator is a free open source client-side encryption tool for cloud storage platforms. It enables you to encrypt your files before uploading them to your cloud storage providers. Cryptomator works with popular cloud storage platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, and iCloud. The difference lies in the fact that Cryptomator doesn't act as an intermediary between you and your cloud storage provider. Instead, it runs on your local device and encrypts your files before they’re synced to the cloud. The end-to-end encryption means no one has access to your keys but you, not even a third party company like Cryptomator.You can use it to encrypt any kind of file type including plain text documents, images and audio/video files in order to keep them safe from unauthorized access and tampering. The best thing about Cryptomator is that it comes bundled with a web interface which allows you to share encrypted folders or individual files on the web without having to install any additional software on your computer or device.This means that Cryptomator is not only a secure way to store data in the cloud but also protects documents from being accessed by anyone other than those who have access permissions set up by you on file shares through either Nautilus (Fileroller) or Dolphin (Konqueror).
