"Good if you're on it, but not the industry leader"

**Overall:** It was a mixed bag. It got the job done, but felt like it required a lot more work than other platforms in this space.

**Pros:** It is a good central tool that integrates fairly well with our banking and accounting systems to manage accounts payable and bill payment.

**Cons:** The reporting of bills in the system and schedule of payments is confusing, the payment process is not always reliable like competitor products, and there are a great many hoops to jump through to prove compliance.

**Switched From:** [BILL Accounts Payable & Receivable](https://www.capterra.com/p/166559/BILL/)

**Reasons for Switching to Tipalti:** BILL was too isolated of a system and forced me to constantly reference it instead of sharing data and documents with our instance of QuickBooks Online. Also, BILL required a high per user fee for even approval only users.

Vendor Response

By Tipalti on January 14, 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. We really appreciate the balanced perspective. We’re glad to hear Tipalti has been effective as a centralized accounts payable solution and that its integrations with banking and accounting systems (especially QuickBooks Online) delivered value compared to alternatives like BILL, particularly around data sharing and user access flexibility. That said, we hear your concerns clearly. Reporting clarity, payment reliability, and the effort required around compliance are all critical areas, and feedback like yours helps us prioritize where improvements matter most. This review is exactly the kind of honest input we want as we continue refining the platform to reduce friction while maintaining the controls and scale our customers rely on. We would love to have you at our next Customer Advisory Board. We will reach out once planning commences.

"Tipalti moved us forward but still lacks the structure a $4.5B credit union needs"

**Overall:** Tipalti has absolutely brought our AP processes forward compared to Prologue. The platform gives us a cleaner approval trail, OFAC compliance, and a single system for invoices, procurement, expenses, and AMEX cards. But the path to getting there was far more difficult than promised, and even now, the product still requires multiple manual workarounds to meet the needs of a large, compliance driven credit union. \[sensitive content hidden\] have made the difference between success and failure for us. They are proactive, communicate well, and do everything they can to keep our system running and improving. \[sensitive content hidden\]’s collaboration with the engineering team and her willingness to bring us into pilots has given us hope that Tipalti will continue evolving toward what large institutions actually need. The system is stable now, but not seamless. For smaller organizations, Tipalti might deliver the out of the box simplicity the sales team describes. For larger ones like ours, it requires ongoing management, creativity, and the right internal resources to make it fit. Advice for other credit unions: Push for a senior implementation team, realistic timelines, and detailed answers about vendor migration, reporting, expenses, AMEX approvals, and invoice review processes before signing. The platform can work, but you will need strong internal project leadership and dedicated vendor contacts like \[sensitive content hidden\] to get real results.

**Pros:** We are a $4.5B credit union that moved from Prologue, where everything was manual, invoices came by email and were typed in by staff. Tipalti has definitely brought us into a more modern environment and given us better control over compliance. Having OFAC screening built directly into the payment process is a major strength for a financial institution, and it helps us maintain stronger oversight. The biggest positive in our experience has been the ongoing support from \[sensitive content hidden\] (Customer Success Manager) and \[sensitive content hidden\] (Customer Support Engineer). Once they took over our account, the difference was noticeable. \[sensitive content hidden\] is proactive and constantly pushing to make the system better for us. She keeps us involved in new pilots and invites our team to help test upcoming features like AI generated reporting. She also connects us directly with Tipalti’s engineers to explain what a large credit union actually needs, which has helped the development team better understand our compliance and accounting requirements. That collaboration has opened doors for future improvements that could make the system more usable for larger institutions. \[sensitive content hidden\], on the other hand, is the backbone of our post implementation experience. She manages every ticket, follows up consistently, and never lets items go unanswered, even when the response is not what we want to hear like “the platform doesn’t do that.” She stays on top of cases until they are resolved or properly escalated, and that reliability matters when you are supporting a platform this size.

**Cons:** Implementation was one of the most difficult system projects I have managed. We were promised a 6 month timeline, but it took nearly a year to complete, and only because my team pushed aggressively, requested weekly meetings, and drove every milestone. The team assigned to us was fairly new and did not have the depth of product knowledge needed for a $4.5B institution. We also had to transition 2,818 vendors from manual email entry in Prologue into Tipalti, which we ended up managing ourselves. I spent many late nights reading manuals and testing imports because the hands on guidance we expected never really happened. Once live, we discovered several functional gaps that required workarounds: There is no built in review stage for AP before invoices go to approvers. Our process requires AP to verify coding and GL accuracy first, and Tipalti does not support that structure natively. The expense module is not flexible enough for organizations with roaming employees. We have more than 300 employees, many of whom rotate locations. The system only allows one designated approver per person. If that person is unavailable, the only option is to upload a new employee sheet, which is inefficient. On the AMEX side, our compliance policy requires that managers review all purchases after they occur. Tipalti does not offer that functionality, so we have to export the transactions to Excel, attach them to our legacy approval form, and send them through DocuSign. It works, but it is completely manual. Reporting is limited, and there are no dashboards for AP leadership. We cannot easily see total volumes, invoice aging, or bottlenecks without exporting data. We still have to manually import Tipalti transactions into Prologue every day to sync with our ledger. Branded check printing is not available, which creates confusion with vendors and members expecting our name on the checks. All of these issues make the product feel more tailored to smaller or mid sized businesses rather than a large, regulated credit union with detailed control requirements.

**Alternatives Considered:** [AvidXchange](https://www.capterra.com/p/144102/AvidXchange/), [Coupa](https://www.capterra.com/p/115928/Coupa/) and [SAP Concur](https://www.capterra.com/p/380/Concur-Expense/)

**Reasons for Choosing Tipalti:** Tipalti offered an all in-one platform for invoices, procurement, expenses, and corporate cards. The built in OFAC screening and promise of automation and audit-ready workflows made it seem like the best fit for a regulated credit union environment.

**Switched From:** [Prologue Financials](https://www.capterra.com/p/168990/Prologue-Financials/) and [Prologue Fixed Assets](https://www.capterra.com/p/129437/Prologue-Fixed-Assets/)

**Reasons for Switching to Tipalti:** We needed a more modern AP solution with built in OFAC compliance, automated workflows, and vendor self service. Prologue was outdated and required fully manual invoice entry.
