Overall, Vista is a dependable construction ERP. Once configured and learned, it improves our financial control, job tracking, and everyday reporting.

Pros

Vista handles complex construction accounting, job costing, payroll, reporting and invoicing in one system, giving our team reliable key project data.

Cons

The interface feels dated and can be difficult to learn. Some workflows require too many steps and reporting setup often needs experienced IT support.

We've been with Viewpoint Vista a little over two-years and overall it's been a great experience. I know we're only using a fraction of what Vista can do and I'm looking forward to optimizing that functionality in the future.

Pros

We converted from Sage 100 to Viewpoint Vista and it's like we jumped light years into the future. The visibility for project managers to see each aspect of their job costs and drilldown to the invoice attachment level is outstanding. I can run reports on every aspect of a job, including a singular phase code. The automated AP using AI to create the header from a scanned invoice speeds up our entry process and the approval processes built into the software are outstanding. Invoice approvers see their invoices needing approval as soon as AP enters them, which has sped up our month-end close. The ability to custom the software by adding custom fields, buttons and reports allows us to tailor the software to our specific needs.

Cons

The lack of included reports for financial statements is a downside, but using Insight Software's Spreadsheet Server solves that issue, for an additional cost. It also requires you to purchase a license for your consultants to have access to our software to write custom reports.

Switched from

[Sage 100](https://www.capterra.com/p/227232/Sage-100cloud/)

We grew out of Sage's capabilities and had to create workarounds for all processes.

Reasons for choosing Viewpoint Vista

The payroll module was California compliant with Vista and was not with CMIC.

VA UI is challenging. Difficult in setting up roles. When you finally get support, they are great, but sometimes lack the detail required to address the issue.

Pros

Vista is a solid ERP with many options to tailor to the needs of your business. Provides good customization.

Cons

Confusing approach to setting up employee roles, security, jobs, etc. Several modules need to be changed to be more efficient- Way too many clicks. Getting support is extremely slow. If support is provided via email, sometimes the information is cryptic and only made for Tech people, not true users. It is very expensive for the various role levels that we have. When we "upgraded" to the cloud, the cost DOUBLED. It is very difficult to create custom reports and the UI in TC1 for reporting is lackluster. AP Automation does not use true AI. We were told that it would "Learn" invoice detail. It's been over a year and it hasn't learned very well, if at all. The fact that it doesn't allow an area to input a Job number in the initial entry is a big miss.

Vista is amazing and it integrates well with other services out there. The most customizable accounting system out there. SQL Server means PowerBI, Crystal Reports, Excel data imports, SSRS. Your options are limitless. All data is structured very simple and easy to work with.

Pros

Ability to customize reports, programs and create custom dashboards. All data goes through a batch system with approvals before getting posted.

Cons

Since Trimble acquired Viewpoint the user management and login processes has become very complicated and as of March 2026 they forced all users to a named user system, our company had shared Vista logins and we had to fend for ourselves with no time to prepare and adjust.

The support has deteriorated significantly over the last year. We have had several support tickets where Viewpoint was not able to provide a solution and we had to find a fix through other sources. System upgrades are terrifying with the last update impacting or ability to produce financials. I hope Viewpoint figures this out and provides the support that they used to have.

Pros

The integration with operations and all of the functions that the software has to offer including the equipment module and fixed asset functionality

Cons

Lack of support. Viewpoint supported the software when we first implemented but that level of services has dropped off over the last year. When you submit a ticket, you get an email advising of longer than normal wait times. This has gone on for months now and even when you do get a response, they are often not able to solve the problem.

Overall, I would say I am satisfied with Vista but again wish the customer support would be more invested in. Most of the help guides are not very helpful and you can never get in contact with anyone.

Pros

Easy to use once you familiarize yourself with the system. Overall the system works smooth, and has all the features we need.

Cons

Customer support is really lacking. I feel like I can never get any assistance and most of the time have to solve issues on my own research versus a customer representative reaching out to help.

Our experience has been very frustrating. Our implementation was horrible and the lack of customer support has left us looking at other options.

Pros

We purchased Vista because of it's job costing capabilities and it's ability to integrate with Procore.

Cons

Vista's UI is clunky and outdated. The reporting options are limited. There seem to be a lot of glitches within Vista. When we call/chat for help, it takes an average of 30 days to get a response. the integration with Procore is inconsistent. We are constantly having issued. Overall over the years of using Viewpoint Vista product by the many names we called it I would say the overall experience was a positive one as the updates overtime have created a better user experience also.

Pros

Viewpoint Vista is an easy to use software for new users and seasoned users alike. With the correct setup for accounting and reporting you will be able to get the most information into and back out of the system. Invoicing your customers has been made easy since you can email the invoices directly to your customers.

Cons

Sometimes customers support has a case in their queue for awhile before getting back to you and then feels you will find your answer with a Knowledge Based article when you actually had already looked at very such article and needed further help.

I’ve used several accounting systems and this one is the easiest to use. I use this for billings, change orders and pulling different financial reports including job cost reports

Pros

Modules are easy to use and are there are a lot of report options. Reports pull fast and are easy to export

Cons

Reports are not customizable by the user, they have to be customized on the back end. Reports exported into excel are messy

Sage was old and clunky, didn’t meet the needs of a medium sized contractor

Overall, Vista makes a huge impact on my work life. It helps keep my reports easy to find and manage while also allowing me to make custom folders to store specific processes.

Pros

There is a lot of functionality and everything is pretty intuitive and easy to use. It’s also very customizable which is nice.

Cons

Sometimes there is almost too much information available without the ability to keep it straight from similar reports or programs. I think it’d be cool to be able to add notes next to certain programs or reports to help me keep them all straight.
