Project Manager Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Robust but Very Difficult" February 25, 2019 4.0 Pros Very robust software that can do just about anything from finances (contracts, purchasing, forecasting, billings, etc), project management (RFIs, submittals, drawing tracker, etc.) to HR (timecards, training, etc.) Cons VERY difficult to learn and get used to the dynamics. There are tools to allow adding custom fields, validations, lookups, and even complete custom tables for those who want to go beyond the canned software. We built an extensive safety program on their custom tables. Being a standard SQL database has allowed us to integrate with other software as well. Cons They are playing catch-up on the mobile side. All are very unhappy. Pros Possibilities to work with Microsoft platform. SQL based and therefore we have the ability to get to the information we really need (all-be-it backdoor). Cons Poor execution and support. No system based financials. Poorly structured work flow. Weak asset management. Weak scheduling. Three years later still not working as well as Computer Ease. Vista gives me the tools to combine several departments under on application. Pros Several modules for different uses with different departments. Customization to fit our needs. Easy to find third-party applications like job and time sheet applications that stream in directly to Vista. Cons A bit pricey, but in the long term it pays off. Our company relies on this program more that Vista knows. It's the underrated program that keeps our train moving forward. Once the learning curve is established, the program can be very powerful. Pros This program features some of the strongest features on the accounting side of things. Project Manager is great for simple jobs but when there a lot of change orders it can be fickle. Support is terrible it takes days for them to get back to you. Unapproved AP process works very well (would be nice to get a process refresh to streamline process for non accountant approvers) / Just in early stages of converting to Equipment module (from Toolwatch) but inially appears that it will serve most of our needs / Core modules all are very solid (PR, JC, HR, etc) Cons Struggle with doing projected costs based upon billing rates to be able to show owners current project cost to them (our total billings) in a cost+ GMP world. Forced to go offline with too many excel/manual processes. Financial Manager needs to be overhauled to produce modern financial reports not something proceed in the 90's. July 7, 2017 5.0 If you are in the construction business and looking for a software that will cover all areas of accounting- then this is the software that you need. Pros The programs have been designed for construction business operations and making accounting faster and accurate without a lot of input. Cons I guess this would fall under pros- but updates- just like your personal computer- the software comes with updates that must be loaded- they are needed- just another function. I have been able to cut my process time by a third since switching to this software. When I have questions I can usually find the answer to a problem in the Viewpoint Knowledge Base under the Help menu. Cons Some updates change different modules so occasionally I'll have to adjust to a new way of entering information or retrieving information. I absolutely enjoy working on it, it's easy to use and follow. Pros Easy to use and follow. You can customize your windows how ever you like. Reports are also easy to follow Cons Depending on number of licenses that are purchase sometimes is an issue to sign in. Also when everyone is using Viewpoint it takes longer for batches to post. They have been with us every step of the way from implementation to upgrades. Pros From a small construction company getting by with Excel spreadsheets for everything we did to a fully functioning, paperless enterprise. It is a huge upgrade from our old software system. Pros We really love the reports you are able to pull in this software. The functions are pretty easy to figure out and understand. The Clearview resource that comes with Viewpoint is an amazing source of information regarding functionality and capabilities. Cons There is no option to file payroll and other taxes through Viewpoint like there is with some other software. It is so extremely limited in what it can do. In the case that you can actually get someone on the phone from Vista to discuss your concerns or suggestions, you will always find yourself hearing the words "this is a known issue", resulting in a "case closed" mentality. I'm convinced there are less than 3 people on their entire support/customer service team. We routinely won't hear back for 3+ weeks on urgent issues, even if we call to "escalate" our case and despite paying per month for support. I wouldn't wish this software on my worst enemy. Don't buy their lies about the exciting features and flashy demos: the software does not do what they claim it can do. Review Source AC Allan C. The reports are configurable easily an it is very flexible. The software has many items that are making our team very informed and knowledgeable on the cost status on each of our projects. There may be some tasks that take a bit longer than in our previous operating system but then Vista makes up for in in other areas by far. The online help (Chat) is a great help and the Knowledge Base is a wonderful resource. Cons I think it takes too long for support to get back to us. By the time they do, I generally can't remember the details about the ticket I put in and sometimes I can't even remember the issue. I have to go out to Clearview, log in and look at my ticket. The program works efficiently, and though there have been bugs, they get them fixed in a timely manner. Pros Quick sort and navigation through the information. Good function for maintaining equipment, managing parts, and tracking maintenance history. Great integration with Excel through MS Query. Very powerful system. Cons Cumbersome to set up and expensive when having to use the product team to assist in the setup. Controller Construction Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Vista " October 12, 2016 2.0 I use this monthly as a controller and find what our group did was made the software "do" what they want it to be and do....Hope that makes sense. So for example, the group didn't like the Purchase Order module, so they changed it to meet the standards of what they needed, this in turn caused errors and the group also had to make custom reports to get the data they needed. After meeting with the CFO and the Assistant Controller and interviewing them about the software they currently use internally, the CFO only "trusts" certain reports and the Assistant Controller only trusts "other" certain reports. But in the long run, they became their own worst enemy when they decided as a group to internally make the changes to the software they shouldn't have from the beginning. This group should have used their consultant from Vista a little more and took that persons advice. My question is, how do we make this right for the group? Pros I like the software, Just we need to get our group back to square one without loosing the data. Cons Because we customized it, there is no reliability on the reporting we currently have. Those change fit seamlessly with the base product. Cons Database is not normalized in many areas. JC contract values do not interact with GL periods and lock downs - the job contract value should be treated just like the cost for reporting purposes, contract value changes can be back dated. FR is a weak offering and nearly an embarrassment. Call me and I'll discuss it with you or refer to my idea space post on this subject. The concept of a local client is an outdated software delivery method. Deliver an equivalent web based application set and don't charge existing customers for it.
