Pros

Ease of use and integration between modules and with other applications. We use several other products that we import from and export to.

Cons

Lack of strong financial statement writer. Currently using FRx . . . we know that we need to move, but haven't found anything that is as flexible.

Overall Vista is great for accounting and project financials. I use the the project specific financial forms the most and it allows for easy tracking and storing of invoices and expenses,

Pros

Vista allows for customization of forms that provide the drilled down information we are looking for. Allows for excellent tracking of construction costs against the budget. And Vista integrates with Viewpoint One to provide a comprehensive construction software

Cons

The user interface can be a little complicated at first. There are a lot of options when it comes to what information you are looking for which can make it difficult to find the right form.

Pros

The depth and ability to "customize" without writing code

Cons

The knowledge base and the easily accessible training is a joke! If you are not a seasoned job cost accounting system analyst, figure out how to use the system optimally is unlikely. The phone support is ok, but in about 1/2 the cases, I know more than the person I am talking to. The software needs a much stronger technical support structure to use it properly. The product lacks modern tools, such as Key Conversions/Data Conversions, such as the ability to merge jobs, or change coding. Other cost products I've used have this and it is a life saver (Deltek Vision). It also lacks a modern look and feel.

Pros

The support staff is great, and because the package is industry-specific they also have some degree of knowledge about the industry, which is really helpful.

Cons

1) The integration was very poorly done, and we are still experiencing problems related to poor set-up over a year later even though we paid thousands and thousands of dollars for Viewpoint specialists. 2) The inflexibility in reporting has significantly hindered our ability to drive and analyze our business. Vendor-provided customizing is laughably expensive and slow, and outsourced report writing is expensive and has a long turn-around. While Viewpoint has many native reports, it makes no allowance for simple report creation or customizing, even the simplest thing like using a native report but wanting to sort or filter on a different field.

Support staff genuinely seem to care and want to help. Cloud environment. Spreadsheet import functions.

Cons

Lack of multi-currency. Lack of flexibility in application of federal and provincial tax rules/rates and their application to material and hauling sales. Exporting and working with Crystal reports; many canned job cost reports include tax in revenue Material Sales Intercompany invoices do not post tax amounts in the purchasing company if there is no material - ie Hauling only Extra billing for project managers over and above quoted module costs. Form and Report security set-ups. Logins to other sites when logging support calls.

If I could do it all over I would go with Microsoft SL or GP. I have gone through the same process with them and it was much smoother.

Pros

Solid Software functionality, SQL based, easy to import data. They are constantly trying to improve the software, 1-2 upgrades a year.

Cons

Poor implementation and customization from their team. Customer support and report writing is overpriced. Desktop program is somewhat old school, 1990.

I think that Vista by Viewpoint had made life working in construction easier. I do feel that there are certain corrections that can be made to certain programs within the modules, Daily's reports as an example, but they are on the right path. I do feel that the customer service aspect, needs a little bit of help, sometimes it can take weeks before we hear back on an issue and it is almost impossible to remember what it was you were inquiring about.

Pros

The ease of pushing items from PM to Accounting

Cons

from an IT standpoint, it is almost impossible to make a correction after you have interfaced and accounting has made a payment.

Overall satisfied with the product. It is very flexible and allows for many user customizations without need for professional services. It has a very robust ecosystem of users and third party partners.

Pros

SQL Server based; decent security options (could be better); Options for user configuration of forms and tables including integration of user tables; Very good support services; Integration with many third party products.

Cons

Reliant on Crystal Reports; Expensive; Sensitive data not encrypted at rest; Many security configurations are awkward and require a lot of maintenance.

Pros

how the different modules work together and how quickly the information can be obtained.

Cons

You have to go to different modules to do certain tasks that doesn't make a lot of sense. ie: Cash receipts are in AR rather than CM. Also, it doesn't get updated often enough to meet the demands of our customer base. ie: I can't email an invoice directly to a customer. I have to find the invoice, export it to email, then send it. I am getting more and more customers who wish to get their invoices sent by email rather than snail mail. Also, reports cannot be easily manipulated to get only what you want on them.

Pros

The interface is very intuitive and reasonably easy to use. I also appreciate the flexibility we have to customize changes but that is because we have our own developers in house which makes this simpler.

Cons

As intuitive as the interface may be the workflows in some modules are inefficient and should be more frequently reviewed for continuous improvement. There are many great ideas on the ideas bank and in Vantagepoint but I'm not confident that Viewpoint organizes/filters the information efficiently enough to assess changes needed to base framework to maximize the efficiency of future improvements. The result is new ideas/improvements appear to be 'bolted' on and are not always fully integrated in all areas of the product (where they should be).

I like that it is easy to use after learning the payroll and accounts payable modules. I have been happy with the help I get and like the software more & more.

Cons

When I make a mistake putting in Accounts payable and use the wrong batch month, it is a little unforgiving to get the mistake corrected. As I learn it is getting easier.

### "As user unfriendly as it gets."

Pros

There seem to be cool things this software is capable of doing, but it's so user unfriendly that it's impossible to access.

Cons

I don't know where to start. I have never experienced a software with so many bugs. It constantly has to be restarted because it crashes if there is too much information inputted in one go. Importing is nearly impossible and there doesn't appear to be anyone who can help. When you call they tell you "that's just how it works." I wish this frustration on no one.

Pros

I like the product's flexibility and ease of use. It can be customized to fit a contractor's individual needs. It has good security to ensure data is only accessed by the people that need to see it. The available reports that come with the software are great places to start and its relatively easy to customize these to fit an individual company's needs.

Cons

A few years ago, you could expect a support call back within 30 minutes; now, it takes days, unless you really let Viewpoint know you need something done NOW. This has been a very disappointing trend.

My only disappointment is it would be nice to be able to call support and get a resolution immediately instead of creating a case and waiting for a recall. The knowledge base system is good, but sometimes when you put in a topic it will show over 100 results related to your request and who has time to review that many articles to find an answer.

Pros

The ease of making corrections to payroll. The ability to view from the grid and sort information quickly.

Cons

There are a lot of boxes within the setup phase that you need to be sure to mark in order for the action to be performed correctly. It is easy to miss sometimes marking them all.

Pros

It is Accounting's only financial tool to see the metrics we need to see on jobs without having to get bogged down in the details that our Engineers and PM's can't explain to us in laymen's terms. We created our own customized WIP reports that tie directly to our financial statements, and help us to narrow down what questions we need to ask our PM's on a job's performance related to cost, change orders, status and invoicing to the customer.

Cons

Would like the help to be a little more helpful. sometimes I can't find the help I need on my own.

They are always trying to think ahead in what the customer might like. They bring in other companies are doing things that will benefit us.

Cons

Sometimes they are moving so fast and try to be part of the next best thing, they they do not fully develop a solution or keep improving it. I have had several issues with implementation of add-ons.

Pros

Very comprehensive. It forces standardization of processes. That isn't a problem with accounting as we can be dictators but it can receive pushback from PM's who may have many different ways of doing something.

Cons

For what you pay there should be good manuals that go through the steps to perform tasks. It has to many capabilities at times. It would be nice to have a "dumbed down" version available. Sometimes it's comprehensiveness is it's downfall. Some of the document templates need to be more user friendly.

Easy to use and understand screens. Really takes no time to learn input. Movable columns to personalize for your own use.

Cons

There are loads of reports in each module that show just a tiny bit of the "picture", it would be nice to have one report showing all of the information.

I like the integration between modules, like Billing and A/R, Subcontracts Ledger and Accounts payable, etc., including document management almost all areas. Vendor is progressive in all phases of management information needs and is proactive in advanced products and changing customer needs.

Cons

Software flexibility sometimes leads to confusion for implementation and basic users. The financial reporting product is separate from the main Vista software and I have had difficulty in using it effectively.

### "Software is Great, Customer Service is Terrible"

Pros

It does a lot, there are many reporting features, and it integrates the accounting with the project management.

Cons

The customer service is terrible. You cannot call a number and talk to a person. The only option is to submit a ticket on line, and it often takes several hours to get a call back, even if your entire system is down and you are in the middle of an urgent problem with something like payroll.
