### "Top Notch Financial Aggregator "

July 20, 2022

5.0

Excellent and responsive company. Very strong app and desktop platform .

Pros

Former Mint user who switched over to Buxfer about 20 months ago. Love it. Best personal financial app out there and trust me I spent a long time doing my homework on all the different options out there. It keeps me on top of all my accounts. Has saved me money more than once.

Cons

Account synching is not always working properly...Have to update a lot

### "Great tool but needs improvements"

May 20, 2022

4.0

Overall it is better than using an Excel spreadsheet but there is still a long way to go to be a good product.

Pros

It is great to be able to view all my financial assets in one place to keep track of my overall net worth.

Cons

Some integrations to some of my financial tools are missing and although I have requested them they still haven't been added. The forecasting function is not fit for purpose with the way people get paid. Nobody gets paid on the 1st of every month. The budgeting function is also very confusing and difficult to setup and use.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Buxfer

It was the most comprehensive software of all of them. Also most of them are too US centric and were missing a lot of my financial tools for integration.

Switched from

Because I wanted direct integration into my financial products and to track my net worth more accurately.

### "Poor service"

February 10, 2025

3.0

My initial experience was good, but Buxfer's support is bad. It is frustrating not being able to sort out issues.

Pros

It is great to have a snapshot of income and expenses, as well as a networth picture.

Cons

My bank accounts synced perfectly up to 2 January 2025. Since that date nothing synced - I have tried on numerous occasions to contact Buxfer support with no luck. Buxfer support is bad.

### "Fantastic software with slight areas for improvement"

May 26, 2022

5.0

Overall Buxfer has been a complete game changer for me. I have used competing software for years, starting with Mint, which I quickly abandoned due to lack of a paid (ad free) option and the lack of full control over categories (you aren't able to create new top-level categories and you aren't able to delete existing default categories for some reason). I then have used Pocketsmith for years and years as it allowed great customization. Nothing comes close to buxfer's clean interface, with the full account lists and tag lists down a column on the left and simple, fast navigation, as well as features more akin to higher level professional accounting software such as the ability to enter a projected bill payment or a payment made that may not be reflected on your statement yet, allowing for quick forecasting of balances and overall financial standing.

Pros

I love the flexibility of this software. It allows me to modify and create a seemingly infinite amount of tags so I can organize all aspects of my financial life in a manner that facilitates historical insight for me. E.g. if you have multiple properties, you can separate expenses related to each property instead of sticking to generic templates. Additionally, while there are options out there that offer this feature, none seem to make it as quick and easy to create categories (called Tags in Buxfer) or edit them, add, remove, etc. Buxfer also has a built in "refund" transaction type, indicative of buxfer's understanding of real world financial transactoins, instead of categorizing a refund generically as "income" as most other options do. Additionally, the financial forecasting is dead-simple when compared to others. A clean, simple, visual chart showing forecasted balances is all what is needed. Something so simple that only Buxfer seems to have grasped so well. They have an IOU feature which I understand to be very useful however I have not used it yet.

Cons

While for the most part buxfer seems to have nailed transaction splits (where one purchase is split into multiple categories, e.g. at a hardware store you bought some tools for a project but also some light bulbs for your home and you want to track separately), there are a few bugs here and there to work through. Additionaly, when entering reminders, I would love for there to be a feature to remove reminders after the date for them has passed. Buxfer is good at transaction matching however it isn't perfect.

[QuickBooks Online Advanced](https://www.capterra.com/p/189398/QuickBooks-Online/)[Mint](https://www.capterra.com/p/213530/Mint/)

Too many limitations on all other software. Buxfer's founder seems to be the only one who actually gets it. Almost no limitations. Multiple currencies, support for bank sync for nearly every single banking platform out there, projected payments displayed in a super simple manner, unlimited customization of tags, sub-tags, sub-sub tags, it's really just so flexible when compared to anything else out there that I have used.

### "Best Personal Finance Software"

May 22, 2022

5.0

I don't use all of the functions of this software (IOU's and whatnot) but it gives a "control enthusiast" like me a choice of whether or not to sync my accounts. I like manually entering my cash flow and transactions day-to-day so I can balance it with my spreadsheet and track my spending carefully.

Pros

I can sync with all of my investments, including the values of my rental properties and primary residence. But I don't like syncing my bank and credit cards, so I have the choice to enter the details manually. I love that I can do that!

Cons

This is most certainly personal finance software and wouldn't be appropriate for any sort of business expense tracking, in my opinion. (I'm an accountant.) If this is your goal, there are probably other options.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Buxfer

### "Flexible bookkeeping"

May 27, 2022

4.0

Pros

Buxfer automatically syncs with bank accounts, and categorizes expenses based on rules. It allows me to track, split and project expenses across multiple currencies with flexible budgets and easy historical reporting.

Cons

The future projections aren't particularly useful because Buxfer relies on manually configured income/budget rules, instead of forecasting based on the years of data it has on file.

### "Open Ended Forecasting Software"

May 22, 2022

5.0

I plan to continue using this software.

Pros

The tool is fairly open ended. You can make it work however you want it to. Plus it allows your forecast individual account balances.

Cons

Some of the ways it handles account sync can be funky.

### "Great solution to manage your finances"

October 5, 2025

5.0

Being an expat with several bank and investment accounts across multiple countries, I haven’t found just a better solution, but in fact any viable alternative to Buxfer for managing all my finances in one place. Automation provided by Buxfer is an amzing time saver.

Pros

Comphrehensive integration capabilities with banks and brokers, tons of features, ease of use. UI is a bit old-school, which for me is actually an advantage.

Cons

From time to time, I experience glitches when syncing with some of financing institutions. There are workarounds, but that's a bit annoying.

### "Loyalty earned"

May 24, 2022

5.0

I’ve been issuing Butcher for years. Prior to this I managed my finances using spreadsheets because I simply could not find a solution that allowed me to get the information I needed. Buxfer didn’t have all the features I wanted at the time but it was better than everything else I kind find and it’s ease of use sold it to me. I don’t know what the features I wanted were, but I certainly don’t miss them! I don’t know how it compares to competing products because I’ve never had reason to look!

Pros

It is solid - I’ve rarely had any trouble with the software and the few problems I’ve had have been handled well by support. It’s bank integration and ability to automatically pull in transactions and recognise transfers between accounts is invaluable. The mechanism for hierarchical tagging, automatic tagging and visualising data by tags is excellent. I can see the state of my finances at a glance and easily dig in to anything irregular.

Cons

I think the interface for managing existing automatic tagging rules could be improved.

### "More products like this should exist in this day and age"

February 14, 2025

I've been a happy Buxfer customer for more than 10 years now, and I'm extremely happy. They have survived to a shift in the industry, keeping a solid product, with no ads, solid privacy, and overall consistency. I am so happy a company like this still exist, and I'm happy to be a paying customer

Pros

Great consistent product, no ads, no third party companies. Just a simple product

Cons

Pros

not that much - see comments below about least liked

Cons

don't recommend it . have had issues with attachments since I signed up months ago. contacted their support as was told they were working on it. it still doesn't work (uploading attachments from mobile) and they can't give a timeframe of how long to fix. its pretty simply functionality so if the coders are struggling to fix that it speaks worlds about the rest of the product!

### "Buxfer is built around the user ... you"

May 24, 2022

4.0

Overall I have had a decent experience. I am sophisticated in understanding my finances and I like the way Buxfer allows me to manage my finances the way I want to manage them rather than the way the app wants me to. Earlier in my adoption it was frustrating getting support. That has improved. They seem to be more responsive to issues.

Pros

Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to input data and transactions and easy to get data needed to manage my personal finances.

Cons

Reconciliation is difficult and can be time consuming when balances don't match. This is probably the biggest area of improvement Buxfer could make. Sometimes I can spend as much as an hour trying to reconcile an account.

### "The best personal financial management / budgeting software I have found (and I have tried a few) "

June 4, 2022

5.0

Very glad I found Buxfer - it is the best product I have found for personal financial management / budgeting (and I've tried quite a few). The company seems to have focused primarily on product development rather than marketing spend - so the product flies below the radar but it really is better than the others I have tested.

Pros

Very good connectivity with external banking services (vast majority of my bank accounts, credit cards sync automatically). Great flexibility for setting custom spend categories / sub-categories and associated reporting.

Cons

Would like to see more flexibility on the budgeting side - grouping spend categories into different groups based on whether they are weekly / monthly / annual expense types (rather than pro-rating everything into a monthly view)

### "Avoid using this app"

May 31, 2022

1.0

horrible

Pros

The only reason i continue to use the app is that Buxfer can sync transactions automatically from my bank (i am in Germany)

Cons

\- the interface is very inconvenient. obviously the people who make the app don't use it - There are bugs (e.g. recently the app created a new account automatically and started synchronising new transactions there. now I have to transfer transactions manually apparently) - the lack of support. when i started using the app i created tickets for bugs and suggestions for improvements. after 4 or 5 reports i got zero replies and stopped trying to solve these problems. ### "New user of Buxfer"

May 24, 2022

5.0

The firm providing my last accounts software went out of business during the pandemic. The software did continue to function for a time. However the software finally crashed and could not be recovered and backups would not load. Buxfer rated very highly on comparison websites and proved itself with its ease of setup and secure uploads from all my accounts saving months of wasted time and effort. I wished I'd switched years ago.

Pros

Easy to set up and easy to import data. Can be set up to drill down for very detailed analysis. Easy to set up for multiple accounts. Simple to amend accounts, transactions and levels of detail after the initial setup

Cons

Nothing much. Most of the problems are of my making, having to go back to improve the levels of detailed info that can be available if set up correctly.

### "Great product for the EU customer but rough around the edges"

May 23, 2022

4.0

Apart from the mentioned bugs and varying quality of support, I'm quite satisfied with Buxfer. It's a small operation that I really care about, hence me coming here and writing this review.

Pros

It's the best personal finance tracker out there for an EU customer that I could find.

Cons

I routinely stumble upon bugs that seriously degrade the product for me, and which sometimes take months for Buxfer to fix - if I get a reply from support at all (lately this has been better).

### "Happy Buxfer user for more than 10 years"

May 13, 2023

5.0

Historical transaction analysis and reporting ; Budgetting and Forecasting activities ; graphical drilldown analysis ; overall significantly improving my productivity on financial matters.

Pros

I'm using Buxfer for 10 years now and I'm very satisfied by the various functionalities and the reliability of the software.I really appreciate the graphical analysis as well as the speed of operation even over quite large historical periods.I also find the budgeting and forecasting menus very helpful and powerful.Overall the application is quite powerful and very simple to use. This is the financial application I have kept using for the longest time (>10 years) and I see no reason to change.

Cons

The only functionality I'm missing is the ability to analyze exchange rate evolution in a multi currency user profile. This seems to be kind of a stretch for the development team. Beyond that I'm very happy with this financial application even though a direct connection to bank accounts would further facilitate the load of data.

Reason for choosing Buxfer

### "My fave financial app for years."

May 20, 2022

5.0

I just wanted to know where my incomes go and my expenses, per week, per month, and per year. Now I have detailed info about how I manage my money. Buxfer solved it.

Pros

I have worked with this app since 2017. I tested another 2 or 3 apps to manage my accounting and Buxfer was the best. The best part is that I am from Colombia and I can manage my accounts in Colombian Pesos as my accounts in dollars.

Cons

No bad details that I can remember. I have no details about the app currently.

Reason for choosing Buxfer

The previous app I was working with, moved from a Windows app to a Web App. It was terrible

### "Simply the best"

May 25, 2022

Business monitoring; All data in one place; Easy data search

Pros

Powerful financial software, but very easy to use. Supports multiple account management. It has a well-designed interface, great budget planning tools. Money can be easily withdrawn from various accounts, and information about that is generated in all types of reports on your expenses and earnings. It is possible to generate various types of reports in which you will be able to make numerous predictions regarding planned financial transactions. It is available from anywhere and at any time.
