Discord has multiple potential uses. Pros This software is great to communicate with friends/family/coworkers. You can create and customize your own server and/or join others as well. You are able to upload your own emotes and files as well. Cons What I least like about this software is that in order to use emotes/stickers from other servers to a different server, you'd need to purchase Discord nitro (which is entirely optional). You easily get a overview of who's available. Pros It's easy to set up a server and create different roles that can access different parts of the server. It's easy to instantly open private conversations with different users. Easy to group many channels under the same folder. You never lose messaging history. Cons Without discord nitro you get limited to 720p when screensharing. Limited to 25 people when using webcams. Geared more towards gaming/hobby's, they should have a version that's more towards businesses. Ever since I've downloaded it back in 2018, I've stuck to it. They've added many features since then, and they keep on improving. You don't even need to be a gamer to use it - I personally use it as a way to connect with my friends, or even some customers. As you can, there aren't that many cons. Definitely a must-have! Pros Discord is very easy to use, and offers a vast majority of features, such as the ability to play online with friends, or to share emoticons particularly funny from one server to another. It is also possible to customize your profile by adding an animated profile picture, or even a banner! Cons The subscription is a bit expensive, but still quite affordable. Pros Discord works flawlessly on desktops which is its strong selling point. Discord works as a social messaging app where you get a bit of everything from 1 to 1 messaging, group chats, servers and calls, video calls and live streaming in your calls. It makes quick communication possible to anyone as its free to use. Cons The android mobile app is where it lacks performance. It gets laggy, sometimes notifications simply don't pop up, some features are not as polished as it is in desktop. Everyone is using Teams or Zoom but I prefer Discord Cons I don't like that it is somehow "secret" society in there. I work in marketing and for example making campaigns for IT students is almost impossible because the only place where they are is their private discord. I know it was probably the point of it, but it would be awesome to be able to get in there somehow even if you are and outsider. Thank you for your work I think IT students appreciate that. Pros It's really easy to log in from multiple devices as long as you have the app downloaded. Making a group is quick and easy, so is disbanding one. Voice calls are lag free and rarely disconnects. The chat saves everything, this could be a positive or a negative depending on the user, but I appreciate having things from the past saved, the search function makes it easy to look up a past message. Cons The file transfer size limit puts a restriction on what things can be sent. There used to be global emojis free for non paying users in the early days of Discord, but that has been removed. :( Non-paying users also can't stream in full HD resolution. We try to build our synch and asynch work community on it. It works well for that – even if you do not pay a single dime for it. We have separate chat channels and reserved voice channels in use, and we have even set up one channel for echoing our Jira bug tickets for everyone to see those as soon as those appear. Cons One of the biggest issues, with the free version at least, is the fact that you cannot send too big attachments via chats. This is sometimes essential when you are for example trying to deliver a screen recording for debugging to your colleague and the file is too big.
