## What is Discord?

Discord is a communication platform that makes it possible to maintain public or private communities where users can chat by video, audio, and text. Discord communities are organized using channels and roles, which allows the moderating of conversations, granting of differentiated access to some users, and defining a series of settings, such as the volume of audio messages shared by each participant and the integration of bots to automate content.

I've been using Discord since it first came around and the amount of work and development that has gone into it has truly molded it into a team collab giant and an actual competitor to its competition. I'm always excited to see what they bring out next.

Pros

Discord has been one of the greatest messaging apps to come around in the last 20 years. Not only has it revolutionized communication between gamers but also expanded to the professional world as well.

Cons

The ease of use and interface of Discord is by far the best out of all the messaging apps. Being able to create a server in a matter of seconds and manage it with really no experience in running one, just goes to show you how good this app is.

This is my 8th year using Discord, and through this app I've met so many different people from all over the world. It's so fascinating. Previously i only use this for community purposes, but my work also uses this as our main communication platform, and it works great!

Pros

I never have a mod or admin role, but as a regular user, it's so easy to use! It was fun to have a GIF and a reaction button in the chat. It's free too.

Cons

The voice channel sometimes laggy, be it the voice or the screensharing. Even when my connection is good.

Discord has become the place my community actually lives. It replaced a group chat, a forum, and a voice call tool all at once, and after the initial setup it's needed almost no maintenance.

Pros

Discord makes real-time communication feel effortless. Voice quality is excellent and joining a call is a single click; no meeting links, no scheduling, you just drop into a channel and start talking. The server-and-channel structure keeps conversations organized by topic instead of everything piling into one thread, and roles and permissions let you control who sees what without much fuss. Screen sharing, video, and file sharing are all built in and reliable. It's also genuinely fun to use: custom emoji, threads, pinned messages, and a huge library of bots and integration mean you can shape a server around exactly how your group works. And the core product is free, with Nitro adding polish rather than gating anything essential.

Cons

It can get noisy fast. Once you're in more than a handful of servers, notifications and unread badges become a full-time job to manage, and the default settings don't help. Support is largely self-serve, and moderating a large server takes real effort and third-party bots to do well.

I've had a good experience with Discord overall. It's one of the apps I keep coming back to because it helps me stay connected with people and makes it easy to be part of communities that interest me. It's been genuinely useful in my daily life.

Pros

I like how Discord lets me be part of different communities based on my interests. Instead of just messaging people, I can learn from others, ask questions, and join discussions whenever I want. It feels more like a community than just a chatting app.

Cons

The only downside for me is that Discord can be a little confusing when you're new to it. There are a lot of features, servers, and settings, so it takes some time to understand how everything works. Once you get used to it, though, it's much easier to navigate.

We have used Discord which is a dependable communication system that has boosted co-ordination among our sales team. It is especially helpful in cases of on-the-spot brainstorming or problem solving. But some more features, such as integration with email and more precise notifications would definitely make it better. As an intramural communications tool it is a good choice, but not a standalone tool for client communications.

Pros

For immediate communication with my sales team, Discord has been the place to go. Campaigns or station promotions can be created as dedicated channels to keep discussions organized, and the voice feature can be used for quick check-ins without having to schedule a formal meeting. I also like the fact that it's not too much to explain for new employees. The ability to customize with roles is a bonus to manage the access levels.

Cons

For me the most negative feature is it does not integrate with email seamlessly. When I'm communicating with clients I often have to copy-paste important information or approvals from discord to e-mail. This can also be overwhelming if you're on a lot of active notifications during busy promotion seasons, unless you're on the game and regularly muting the channels, which can be a bit tedious to handle.

My overall experience with Discord has been very positive. I use it at Concordia University to access my student union’s server, join the channels for each of my courses, and stay connected with other students. I really like that past students who already completed the course are active in the channels and help us with materials, explanations, and tutoring. Everything—discussions, files, group chats, and support—is organized in one place, so it makes studying and interacting with my peers much easier. Overall, Discord has been a reliable and convenient platform for communication and academic support.

Pros

What I like most about Discord is how easy it makes it for me to connect with other students at Concordia University. I can access my student union’s server, join the channels for each course, and get help from past students who already completed the class. I really like that everything—materials, discussions, tutoring, and group chats—is all in one place, so I never feel lost or disconnected. It makes studying and interacting with my peers a lot easier and more organized.

Cons

What I liked least about Discord is that sometimes the notifications can get overwhelming, especially when multiple course channels are active at the same time. If I’m not checking often, important messages can get buried under all the other conversations. Also, when a server has a lot of channels, it can feel a bit confusing to navigate at first until I get used to where everything is.
