Pros: This program is very basic so if you learn how to use one part of the system you can learn how to use the other parts of the system because they all look the same

Cons: This software does not allow for any changes to be made, and if you want to make a change you have to pay hundreds of dollars to do so. It is very set in the way it was build and you cannot change anything to make it easier for your company. First the shop floor doesnt account for scraps, they assume you will remake them so if you have any scraps and want to throw them out and move on to the next step of production then it wont count that step as being done. Then the accounting is put into many steps and the system gets easily overcrowded. the general ledger is done in too many steps to be accurate. The system will not work for orders of more than one line because if you want to unprocess an order in a second line after the first one was shipped, you cannot. Youre stuck with this floating error in your system that you cannot get rid of.

I personally do not recommend this to anyone. The system isnt very helpful, i feel like you could organize your data much better even on excel sheets than this program does. Finally their customer support do not know anything, as an experienced user of this i call them and ask for help with some easier things and they cannot provide me with an adequate answer, then through trial and error on my own part I find what i was looking to accomplish. Overll I am very dissatisfied with this system;the way its run, the way its reports are made, and how easy it is to create errors but its nearly impossible and in some cases impossible to correct them.

Pros: The software is pretty easy to use. We can usually get new employees up and running fully on the software with only a couple of days of training.

If you implement the time keeping module it allows for excellent review of jobs and verification of timing for your work.

By far the best part of E-2 is the support. They have a wide range of support tools including Webex training's, customer support, and even analysts who can help implement, and improve your software usage.

Cons: Like most software it is built around a model that may not exactly match your business model. In this case the issue is Parts vs. Jobs. Our shop tracks jobs through the shop that are composed of multiple parts. E-2 works best if one part is one job. While it is possible to run multi-part jobs you lose some of the functionality of the software when you do.

The other limitation is eliminating duplicate data. If you have customers, materials or parts that were duplicated, or just plain created incorrectly, it is cumbersome to remove them from the E-2 system.

Overall: This software has all of the features necessary to quote a project, purchase for a project, and move the project successfully through the shop from one work station to another, accurately accumulating time as it goes.

It will give you insight into your jobs as to estimated performance versus actual performance, it will give you control over your purchasing and a 30,000ft level view of your work center loading.

Overall, it has the capabilities to meet a wide variety of manufacturing requirements with good reporting, and useful tools

Recommendations to other buyers: When implementing the software have a plan. Create consistent naming systems for your customers, materials, and vendors. Train to these naming conventions so that you do not create a bunch of duplicate parts, materials or customers. If you start this way everything will be easier in the future.

Pros: The product is a comprehensive job tracking system. When using the individual "modules" in the correct order in creating parts, quotes, jobs, purchases, shipments, etc. you will be able to trace, track, run reports and get great information. Shoptech as a vendor has always been extremely helpful when you contact them. You will not sit on hold for hours like with some other vendors. You will find both basic information and more extensive information on their website either through webinars, help papers, virtual training classes and also User Discussion Boards. Should you not find the information which you are seeking, their staff is very informative and will not leave you in a bind.

Cons: The vendor is very upfront about what their system will and will not accomplish. I miss my accounting bells and whistles with having real time reporting at my finger tips (however, they do provide a "Quick-view" area in which to get real time data for various areas in the system such as job status, parts/customer/vendor inquiries and information, PO status, etc. The worst issue that I can state is that in order to take a look at where items are hitting the G/L, the month in question has to be posted. In order to make any changes, the months have to be unposted. Users should not be in the "Accounting area" when this is being done. AND the worst part in using the audit trail to see which user possibly edited something, no matter where in the system, the audit trail will only tell you who viewed, possibly edited, but will not give you further information to solve your puzzles as to who did what, when and why.

Recommendations to other buyers: I believe when evaluating software of this nature, you should fully understand your company, processes, your internal system of operations, what your needs are, what issues you believe that you have. Speak with and involve your employees as they are the individuals which do the processing of what your company produces. Evaluate the tools which you are currently using along with their advantages and dis-advantages. Quite often the users, your employees are the individuals who may be able to shed light on areas that you would never suspect.

Pros: The designers clearly have knowledge of a shop environment and are pretty comprehensive in touching all the aspects of a job shop. The sales team is very accessible. The product is very easy to get up and operational with which may be attractive to shops starting out or implementing this type of system for the first time. The software does have controls over what users can do what which is useful for keeping employees in check. The reports that it generates are concise and professional looking out of the box.

Cons: The interface is woefully outdated and lacks cohesiveness throughout, data entry practices in one area do not apply to others and certainly do not conform to defacto software standards. Its a bit embarrassing having state of the art CAD/CAM systems with wonderful imagery next to something that looks straight out of 1996. Looks are one thing but we have had a lot of time lost due to slow workflow and data entry errors. It will open many windows and dialog boxes which demand screen focus. Not only is it cumbersome to work in other windows applications with E2 running, you can not even run more than one task at a time inside of it. The software does not scale well to high resolutions or multiple screens. The software rarely fails gracefully, you'll get cryptic error messages in never ending loops. The software relies on a number of 3rd party frameworks including outdated Java runtimes (insecure) All of your data is stored MSJet databases, for those not tech savvy, its late 1980's technology that is isn't supported by Microsoft any more and was never really designed to be scaled to the point you can potentially reach. They do offer an upgrade to MS SQL which comes at a significant cost (which doesn't include SQL server itself or migration services) and it has the added bonus of breaking any custom reports (which are also expensive commissioned work). Although some user controls are present, there isn't granular control over everything in the system. Its very possible users without clearance to certain information can gain access to things they shouldn't. (ie: ITAR) Nearly every other vendor is offering some type of cloud integration, and although E2 does offer a component called webview (no surprise, its an additional fee), its really a customer portal and doesn't offer much in terms of what a company employee would need. The software will not play nicely across multiple networks, we had several locations connected via VPN which Shoptech does not support. Their solution was to use MS terminal services which is cumbersome and requires additional licensing. In today's global economy, accessibility should be paramount, not a vendor locked afterthought. The software does have provisions for shop floor data collection and although it does work, its cumbersome and our busy and non-technical shop floor staff abhor it and we eventually abandoned it. Support was initially good but as our business grew and our implementation of the software became more complex support has been slow to respond (if at all) and many of the ongoing problems we are facing haven't been satisfactorily resolved.

Recommendations to other buyers: Although to get started it comes in at an attractive price point, growth will necessitate constant upgrades, many of which are for options and components standard in other packages from the get go. I'd focus on software that leverages newer technology with a clear upgrade path. Shoptech's sales staff is very good at convincing you of all the benefits of MRP but fails to address TCO especially in terms of supporting their product. For an organization with >10 concurrent users, the amount of administration that the system requires is fairly considerable.

Pros: I have used multiple ERP systems some of them rather expensive with a large learning curve, when I went looking for a ERP system for our machine shop, one of the leading criteria was that the ERP would have, or support the AS9100 standard. E2 was the only one that offered a QA module to help create our AS9100 documentation, then as a bonus E2 had a consultant come out and help set up our AS9100 Quality Management System, to top it off, another consultant came back out a few month later to do an audit of our documentation to make sure we were ready to take on the AS9100 registrar. E2 does have an AP & AR module however we wanted to be able to keep our financial information separate in QuickBooks, this ERP system allows you to flow order and purchase order information seamlessly from E2 to QuickBooks by syncing this information over. I really hope companies that are looking for an ERP system make E2 their choice. I did a lot of painstaking research on this and wish I would have found reviews of ERP systems like this to help me along. E2 does what it takes to run a business effectively and as an added surprise the software is cost effective as well.

Cons: The only Area I have had a challenge with would be the timeclock buzzer, the timeclock portion is provided by one of E2's partners and we recently had the buzzer stop working well, the e2 sofware is pinging the correct signal however the buzzer is not working correctly. So really this doesnt seem to be a E2 issue it is a computerwise issue (computerwise is the timeclock system)

Recommendations to other buyers: I have told everyone that has asked me about a ERP system, that Shoptech E2 ERP system is the way to go, in fact a fabrication shop that does business a few miles away from our business had a ERP system that just didn't seem to work very well for his business, I share with him that we were using E2 shoptech ERP, he decided to look into the software and decided to purchase this ERP for his business as well. Lastly I had a large Aerospace electronics company come in last week to do a AS9100 vendor audit on us, and as I was showing the QA manager all of the documentation he required for the audit, he noticed that I was accessing it all though Our ERP, he stopped the audit to ask if all of the documentation I had for AS9100 could be pulled from our ERP system, I said yes this is one of the reasons we went this ERP route, he asked for the software information and approximate cost and said this is what their company was looking for. Great Job Shoptech Keep it up!!!

Comments: We are a custom fabricator of precision metal parts and assemblies. We are very diverse in our customer market base, each of which has their particular needs and associated challenges. We started out several years ago using Excel spreadsheets for quoting that became increasingly complex and customized. The maintenance aspect of the quotes and quoting process became very convoluted and messy. The biggest problem with a Microsoft product system was the ability for any user to accidentally make changes to the quoting sheet for one particular customer and that calculation would carry over to other quotes. We knew that we needed to improve the process of quoting and tracking time associated with each project. In addition, we wanted to add BOM and stock tracking capabilities, so we began to look at all of the options available. We researched JobBoss, Citrux, Syspro, Intuit and Microsoft Dynamics. Each of the software platforms had pros and cons. For us, the determining factors were price per function and the feature set offerings that were specifically designed for manufacturing. We did not want to custom tailor a software package for our shop. We wanted a software that was already set up for the way we do business, all we had to do was populate the fields and learn the basic functions. Overall, E2 has been a good decision for our company. It has allowed us to scale up and spend much less time tracking order status, employee and machine utilization and keeping track of BOMs without the use of Excel spreadsheets, which we used to use for everything. Excel was a good starting tool for us, but was not sustainable as we have grown. We are much leaner now than before and I feel that we are able to generate and evaluate useful BI data for evaluation. We like having the ability to know the time it takes us to process a particular job through the shop, and the ability for administrative employees to be able to check the status of a job. We have recommended E2 to two of our supply chain partners since inception. One of the companies uses it and does well with it. The other company never embraced it and made the commitment to fully transition over to it. The moral of the story: It is a good tool, but it is not a five minute process to transition into it. It requires a champion within your organization that will learn it and be willing to get the data transfer set up so that your company can make a hard-stop transition over to using the system and not look back to your current system. Human nature is to resist change and you will have to manage your staff's desire to keep using your current system because it's comfortable and quicker, due to their knowledge of the current system. We have had a few issues along the way that have been frustrating (probably 5 times in 6 years). On a few occasions we have lost some data and had employees that were unable to input data into the system. We believe that the root cause was the system failing in some way while an employee was logging data. For example, If I am inputting data into an order and there is a fault (for any reason: power dip, hardware on my computer, etc) the E2 system sees this a problem because I was in the main database and when the network connection is re-established. We back up our data daily and can always revert to the previous day's data. This was a fairly easy fix, but the primary frustration was the lost time determining that the system is no longer recording the data that we put in. Ratings: Initial Install and data transfer, 7 (The tool to do this has gotten better since we migrated our data) Training and support, 9 (Support has been good) Ease of use and how easy to work with, ( Initially, 7. Now that we are comfortable with it, 9) Any hiccoughs or glitches, (Yes, but minor, and probably in line with industry standard.) Accuracy of info generated, 9 (You must ensure that employees are logging into and out of jobs accurately. This takes time, but will become a learned behavior. We have a lady in our office view the employee's log twice per day to ensure that they are logged into a job. If not, then they have to explain why) We would purchase E2 again.

If you are a company that is looking to truly maximize an ERP system to organize your company thoroughly, I would keep searching.

Pros: E2 user for 13 years, sequel version. Most manufacturing companies hardly utilize more than 50% of an MRP/ERP, and don't put the effort to truly comprehend the system to ever fully utilize. In those cases, this would be a good system to use. It does a lot of muscle work for you if you use it right. If you are truly ok with simply letting their scheduling module spit out a generic schedule that is limited in work-ability, this would be a good system. The most updated version has more bells a whistles which is nice but for us was fundamentally lacking in real change and not worthy of the investment to upgrade - plus the fact it is an entirely new system where you would lose all your history was additionally disappointing.

Cons: The system has way too many issues. The purchasing module is as stagnant and rigid as it gets. No room for flexibility. The estimating module is also disconnected on very basic levels from the purchasing side. The scheduling module has not been updated in any sort of substantial way since the beginning and is entirely too slow to be of use if you actually want to actively manage your variables. It crashes a lot (and yes, we had it set up by them so no reason there). The support is BASIC. Within 1 year, I was more knowledgeable than the staff trying to help me with questions I had. Constant system issues where quantities duplicate on their own, or system crashes when running a report (which some of them take a really long time).

Comments: Delta Gear (formerly TIFCO Gage & Gear) is a privately held entity providing advanced machining services to the aerospace industry. E2 was implemented at Delta Gear in 2004 after the company was acquired and moved to our current location in Livonia, MI. In keeping with the company mission to strategically invest in the latest machining technologies, Delta Gear also upgraded the business system to an enterprise-wide solution that could centralize critical processes, provide real-time status, and still be relatively easy to use and maintain. E2 was selected and quickly implemented using the primary modules of estimating, sales, purchasing, shipping, and billing. This model served the company well for about five years. However, as the company grew and customer requirements increased, we recognized that our model needed adjustment and that there were E2 functions available that could help us meet these new demands. Accordingly, in mid-2009 we initiated an improvement project to move us to the next level of E2 and business system effectiveness. First, an internal E2 'champion' was dedicated to the project with the charge to be a functional leader/liaison between the system, our staff and E2 support resources, which have always been very responsive and helpful. Next, a full evaluation of our Table master data was performed and we discovered that we could significantly increase our performance visibility by improving that data. With that foundation in place, we began to implement unused E2 functions. For example, Document Control became a key tool in our successful migration from ISO 9000 to AS9100. Also, our legacy paper-based Non-Conformance and Corrective Action program is now centralized on E2 and links to the associated items and jobs to which they apply. Employee training records were also migrated to E2 and we are now testing the Work Center and Tooling Maintenance functions. Even more important has been the improvement recognized by better use of the Advanced Scheduling and Purchasing systems. After tailoring our work-center master data, we can now identify potential bottlenecks and address them before they occur. Purchasing is now using the auto-ordering tools that pull from job requirements defined in bills of materials and orders. Finally, these efforts have allowed us to effectively use most of the QuickView module to provide real-time performance data as well as to export reports for monthly business metric presentations. These are then logged into Document Control as objective evidence for AS/ISO, or customer surveillance audits. By embracing the disciplines embedded in E2, we are steadily moving from a 'reactive' to a 'pro-active' planning approach for our entire enterprise. Our business has recently moved to a larger state-of-the-art facility and we are confident that E2 will be able to handle our growth effectively.

Comments: Forward Technologies is a small Job Shop in Springfield, OH. We specialize in machining plastics. When I started at Forward Tech in 2007 we were using Peachtree software for our accounting system, Excel Spreadsheets for scheduling and quoting and a paper system for purchasing (NO PO'S). In 2008 we started looking at software systems - my boss is always interested in improvements. That year we added another mill and lathe to the shop and our capacity had increased; handling everything was becoming more difficult. We looked at several systems but E2 just blew them all away. There was no doubt in anyone's mind - we wanted this system. Implementation was reasonably easy - we were starting from scratch so we were able to do things exactly the way we wanted. Of course we found out later it wasn't exactly the way we wanted, but changes were easily made and with experience we are running very smoothly. With time and confidence we have utilized more aspects of the system. At first it was Order Entry-Purchasing- Accounting- then a real push to Time Tracking. We have not implemented scheduling but I see a time in the very near future when we will. Our use of the Quality Module is sporadic - but that is a manpower issue, not a software one. I cannot say enough about Trisha, our in house rep. During implementation and the year afterward, she was always there to help and in fact still is. She answers emails instantly and I think she might even take some at home because I have received responses late in the evening. Since the addition of Tech View on the website, I can find the answers to some of my questions very quickly without bugging Trisha (I love the info sheets under "Knowledge"). One of the techs is always available; they get back to me quickly and help me fix whatever issue I might have. How has E2 helped our shop? Since purchasing E2 we have doubled our capacity, hired more machinists, doubled our square footage and tripled our job load. Being able to easily track what is in-house, what is on order, order history, pricing, did we make money, did we lose money, the ability to play with pricing and have an idea of the profitability of the part, the ease of cross-referencing PO's with invoices - all of these things have made my life so much easier. As the shop has grown I have been able to keep up- and I think a lot of it is due to E2. I also think that E2 has given us confidence that we are actually making a profit - and with that confidence the knowledge that we can keep growing. We will be adding another Mill this fall. Have there been difficulties? Of course, there always is with change - but I LOVE this system. If we have experienced resistance, well, that is a part of life. If I have to use a cattle prod on my fellas then I will use a cattle prod, because at the end of the day what I get from E2 is worth it.

Comments: We are a small third-generation custom sheet metal fabrication shop that has garnered a reputation for high quality, honest work, and trying to help all of our customers meet their increasingly shorter delivery times. Before E2 Shop System, we were using an outdated custom-written software for the Mac and updating that software into the 21st century was proving difficult and expensive. One day I received a mailer from ShopTech that said ''Are you controlling your shop, or is it controlling you?'' I thought to myself 'Isn't that the truth!!' So I called the number and talked to Greg in sales and after much consideration, we made the leap to the windows-based E2. It took approximately one year to fully migrate over to E2 once all the new hardware was set-up. I believe it could have been faster if we had an actual IT person. That being said, I'm not trained in IT, nor had much experience with Windows, but E2 was fairly easy to set up. It does take some getting used to, mostly because people are used to other software and have to make the mental switch, but once you figure out how everything ties in together, it's easy. The tech support staff was fantastic in helping me set up a windows server and they connected me with another customer that had done the same thing, which was extraordinarily helpful. We still use our Macs, but we LOVE E2 Shop System! My father even prefers the quoting method of E2 to the old custom program! It has allowed us to improve turn-around times on jobs and eliminated the constant bother of trying to figure out where jobs were in process in the shop. It has also improved our billing process; simplifying many tasks. It takes about 5 minutes to run the month end pdf reports for the accountant, vs an entire day of sorting actual paper in the old system. Everything is tied together and searching the system for just about anything is super-easy. I have customers call me all the time to look up information for them that they can't even find in their own systems. Our shop floor employees love being able to see what job they are clocked in on and eventually they will be able to know what job they should work on next. I haven't had time yet to delve into the wealth of data to analyze and quantify the exact benefit of E2, but just from our books, we can tell a marked increase in revenue, and we now can tell the actual real-time cost of jobs, rather than waiting until the next day's import. We have yet to harness it's full potential, since we are so small and focused on production, but there's only one way to go from here....up!!! Thank you SO MUCH to Janelle, Corey, Melissa, Greg and the rest of the ShopTech team that has helped me over the years. You have no idea how fantastic it is to call tech support and get the same, friendly, English-speaking, and knowledgeable people every time.

Pros: We have been using E2 in our shop for over ten years, and it has proven itself worthy of the investment time and time again. It is a thorough and well rounded system which assists us in successfully tracking our work load, material inventory, customer database, etc. Utilizing the scheduling tools, such as the Whiteboard, has become essential for evaluating our WIP, providing an overview of jobs in process and tracking due dates. The time tickets and performance summaries are extremely beneficial in measuring employee efficiencies. We are in regular communication with technical support, customizing the individual modules to accommodate the evolution of our business practices and constantly growing and changing capabilities. They have helped us create custom reports and summaries which allow us to categorically track productivity and expenses across the board.

Cons: The major issue we have with the software is the cost of additional seats. Our company has maintained strong, consistent growth over the past decade and as we have expanded, it has been difficult to justify the cost of additional users. As we tend to hold out on purchasing new seats until absolutely necessary, it would be nice to see some price breaks as we continue to add users.

Recommendations to other buyers: Get started on the right foot. Evaluate your needs and business practices, and set up E2 to work for you from day one. Data entry is key in building thorough and easily maintained databases, and the more you put in to it, the more benefits you will see in the end results. If something isn't working right or doesn't meet your expectations, use the customer support and tech support to get it streamlined and tailored to your specifications. No software is perfect, but you can most likely make E2 work for you.

Comments: Qualastat Electronics, Inc. has been in business since 1986, specializing in the manufacturing of electronic cable and wire harness assemblies. Included in our product line are RF assemblies, including phase-matched and time delay and fiber-optic cable assemblies. When the company reached the point where we could not adequately track inventory nor easily quote new assemblies, we decided to install an ERP system. We looked at a number of software packages that could be adapted to our organization but selected E2 due to its comprehensiveness, cost and ease of use. Prior to installing E2 we used a hodgepodge of programs including DBA, Databases and spreadsheets. We quickly found that we could stop using everything but E2. Our quotes became more complete, which prevented us from leaving out tooling, NRE charges, minimum purchase costs and helped us instantly become repetitive with our quotes. We found that with the use of job costing, using barcoding the the manufacturing area, we could review closed jobs and make quick changes to our estimated labor before quoting the same or similar items in the future. We now are able to analyze manufacturing processes by each individual operator and can determine what training needs to be done to improve efficiencies. The quality module made ISO-9001 certification much easier to obtain. Almost everything needed to become and stay compliant with ISO requirements are contained and provided inside the E2 program. Our customer satisfaction and vendor quality are now easy to measure, which helps us to continually improve our business and product. We found that the savings we realized and the ability to see our true costs enabled us to see a two year payback and now everything is just more profit or savings to our customers. We sent most of our staff and management personnel to get classroom training and have also had a local representative come into our facility for more specialized training and to provide refresher training. This has proven to be very effective and everyone was able immediately to run with the program. Shoptech has proven to be a very supportive organization. Our employees enjoy the ability to call in and immediately resolve problems or issues they face. Nobody has had an instance where the customer support person could not help, which is uncommon in our industry. There may be a better software package available for us to use. If it exists, I have not seen it and I would be very skeptical about any other software coming close to providing for us what E2 gives us on a continuous basis. I would highly recommend any job shop type organization to purchase the whole program and not leave out any modules since they all complement each other and make the whole program cost-effective and useful.

Pros: My favorite part about E2 is the simple layout and design of each module. Anyone with an understanding of the flow in manufacturing can learn this software quickly. Also, the software is somewhat flexible which makes it easy to tailor around your company's specific style of processing jobs and orders. There is also a lot of useful data you can pull from the system to analyze manufacturing costs. My favorite is the Job Cost Summary which allows you to see in detail every cost of a specific job.

Cons: The one module I find difficult to use is the Scheduling module. For our company's style of manufacturing it has been hard to use and implement. We mostly build to stock, but we get a lot of build to order jobs that have to be rushed through manufacturing and really mess up the scheduling. I still have a lot to learn about the Scheduling module, but I wish there was a way to use sales history to continually update the job completion date. This would allow us to reschedule our work in progress to fill the shelves before we run out of stock. This module has a lot of promise but for now seems a bit cumbersome to use effectively.

Overall: E2 makes our manufacturing easy to track and analyze. It is a very simple but powerful software.

Comments: A.C. Horn & Co. is a custom sheet metal manufacturer (job shop). We will make almost anything from a customer's drawing. We specialize in food processing and packaging equipment. We also have our own line of popcorn and peanut processing equipment. Our owner's grandfather in Dallas, circa 1907 as a tin shop, founded the company. Our old manufacturing software was complicated and very inflexible, plus was no longer going to be supported by the small company that wrote and developed it. This was a good opportunity for me to recommend to the owners that is was time to change. I wanted software that was more user friendly, menu driven so it would be easy to learn, and more flexible. Also, payroll and time entry had to be clean and a single entry. Before E2 Shop System, we used a company called Caelus, based in the northwest. It handled payroll also and is very detailed in the accounting area. That was acceptable, but it made our company "accounting-driven", instead of "manufacturing-driven"... we make our money in manufacturing, not accounting... We use the 7.2.14 release. I just noticed that .15 has been released and I will install it very soon. We purchased the software in the fall of 2010, and implemented it on the first workday in 2011. Implementation was a ton of work, long hours, and much trouble-shooting and phone calls to the technical help number. I know changing any software is a monumental task, so in my opinion, the implementation went well. Everyone on the help desk was helpful, and I especially leaned on the accounting team because that is an area I am not familiar with. Most of my team learned the software fairly quickly, but some who are not as computer literate struggled. I had some issues with a few who tried to "force" the software to do things it was not designed, nor capable of doing. That took some time to sort out, but it helped us learn the limits of E2. I still call the support line (although not as frequently), and it seems the first person who answers the phone is sometimes less knowledgeable than I am. Usually, if I have a real problem or question, it will get kicked up to another level. The benefits we have realized are in the organization and planning of our proprietary equipment. It has much greater flexibility than our previous software. The system is much more open in the estimating area. Our AP and AR persons like the easier processing in this area. Accounting, however, is still a challenge. I think we are still fairly new users, having 15 months under our belt. We have not even touched the scheduling feature, and only two or three of us are using the quote feature (which is great), so we still have more steps to take to fully utilize the software.

My experience with E2 Shoptech software.

Pros: E2 is a very user friendly program. E2 is easy to maneuver through the software. E2 also offers a traditional standard view or a ribbon view which allows the customer to choose their preference. One of the many particular things I LOVE about E2 is their senior consultant Alicia Fox. I just have to say that Alicia goes above and beyond to help out the customers along with Rhonda Dowd account manager whose response time to my inquiries is outstanding! Also the available online tutorial and the technical support which in my opinion is phenomenal! it offers. "Hands down the BEST software that I have ever used"!

Cons: One thing I would have to say where E2 falls short in my book. The ability to view some of the information. What I mean by this is, some user fields only allow a partial view. Especially in the accounts payable/vendor field.

Overall: For 2 + years now I have had the pleasure of using E2. I have been in the manufacturing business for over 37 years. Many of software programs have come across my path. Without a shadow of a doubt E2 surpasses the software that I have utilized.

Recommendations to other buyers: One of the aspects that I love most about E2 is "they are always trying to IMPROVE and offer a variety of software selections for their customers". Keep up the great work Shoptech!

Pros: Experience: We are a small family owned business that needed to get ISO certified as a requirement by our customer. We did our research and E2 was the best company to offer shop control and offer ISO certification. We have been using E2 since 2012, we have been ISO certified since 2012. We were eager and became ISO certified within 6 months (take a lot of work and dedication to get it done quickly). Overall E2 has been a great resource for us. Pros: The software is easy to use, the information that you are able to get from reports is helpful (only as good as the information put in). Easy for all employees to use with all computer skill levels. ISO documentation was extremely helpful with becoming ISO certified. Customer service is always helpful, you always get a real person to help you with your needs.

Cons: Software does not allow you to do multiple things at once, it is very simplistic which might be best. Difficult to customize it to you specific needs, it can be done but there is a cost for that. If you are a start up company this software would be great to get you going with all aspects, if you are an established company you might need to adjust how you do things. We still do all of our accounting and customer quoting from QuickBooks as that works best for our company. We do not use E2 for scheduling as we are a fast pace job shop and things change on the fly and difficult to schedule within the software.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do your research and ask a lot of question, ask to speak to others who have used it within the last year.

Comments: We operate a precision sheetmetal shop in NJ. We fabricate simple parts to large complex multi level assemblies and everything in between for our customers. They demand a high quality item and when we went shopping for a new software system, we knew we needed one that would be up for the challenge. Our company was loosing control of raw inventory. We could not easily connect costs associated with a job to that job. Tracking jobs live on the floor was a chore also. Our old system was supposed to help us manage everything from order entry through the shipping, but it was just not up to the task. We spent more time working for our system than the system did working for us! We had looked at several companies before making our decision. We chose E2 because they had a system that could do all of what we needed and more. You are told how good a system is, how capable it is, all the typical sales talk. Well, believe it when it comes to E2 software and it's people. First of all, the folks are top notch. From the salesman to the service and training folks. They walked us through the implementation preparation. We were nervous about the impementation set up. Listen to them and take the time to set it up right, it may seem daunting but the extra hours you put into the set up will make for smoother sailing after implementation. From the first phone contact to implementation we felt comfortable with the folks at E2. Secondly, the software does what it says! Not only have we gotten accurate raw inventory counts for a full year, we were pleasantly surprised with other aspects. Purchasing has become much easier and less time consuming using the Job Requirements Report. Tracking jobs and connecting costs to the job are a breeze. You can even connect a cost that was not associated with the original estimate! The ability to "drill down" for information, both historical and present time is awesome. One area we would love to see a change in though, would be the material calculator. We need to do a little more off line calculating than we'd like to. Besure to go over that area with your sales rep. No reason not to buy E2 what with all the ease the rest of the system has to offer. We have been operating E2 for 14 months now and are happy we made the choice to partner with them. We have seen better control of all facets of our manufacturing process: raw inventory, finished good inventory, parts lists, purchasing, real time tracking and cost analysis. The software is terrific, but the people there to help you are even better. What more could you ask for, it's a great product with great service! Thanks E2 Team!

Pros: E2 Shoptech is easy to learn, keeps track of all necessary metrics, is very forgiving when mistakes are made on self-inflicted data input, and customizable to fit the needs of most companies.

Cons: If I had to find 1 weakness that pertains to our use of the program is that it could use a more visually impacting display for a shipping schedule. Shoptech does compile all necessary shipping data - just doesn't display it in a format that works for us. Probably would work for most other companies - just not a perfect display for us. Shoptech does permit workarounds and we have found this to be a very easy solution. Shoptech automatically sends shipping, BOL, tracking, etc to a standalone shipping schedule display that Shoptech helped us develop. Again, not a serious con as it was easily correctible to our satisfaction.

Overall: As a manufacturer of plastic tubes and extrusions, we have been using E2 Shoptech since 2005. It replaced a very costly "Great Plains" software that we had been using and we have not looked back since. Very satisfied

Recommendations to other buyers: We had thought the changeover to another system would be difficult, but proved to be just the opposite. You will not regret the move to Shoptech.

Excellent software for a shop or manufacturing company big or small.

Comments: before buying any software make sure it look seriously at E-2. Their prices are more affordable than you would think and by far best program for you.

Pros: the newest version of the software is great. the ability to create new items, quotes, jobs etc. is very easy. I looked into several different software options and to get the cloud based software the cost was higher than i expected and other company seemed to push to have you buy the on premise versions. the ability to add shop users later is not only easy but very affordable. the nice thing is you dont have to have shop users to be able to track or log times per job. you can enter in manually so if you are a smaller shop you can still take advantage of all the benefits of the software and be able to track P & L quick and easy.

Cons: My only downside to this was i used an old version for several years at another company. I was very jaded about looking at it for our new shop because how my previous employer had it set up. after seeing the newest version and all the improvements my mind was changed very quickly.

Pros: Our company has utilized E2 for 18 years and I have been a user for 13+ years. It is a robust system. We have had virtually no downtime due to system related issues. We started with the MDB version and migrated to SQL about 7 years ago. No issues with either. The support team has always been superb - - easy to get a hold of and not in a hurry to hang up. I appreciate that.

Overall just a really good software package and a great company to deal with. If you invest in this software, do yourself a favor and get Crystal Reports and write your own reports for data retrieval. System is open to allow for this functionality and will make the use of the data even better.

Cons: The ability to customize is limited in regards to functionality. The company prefers to keep the backbone "vanilla" and I do understand it. However there are times that we could get a big gain from a tweak and we are just not able to get it done.

Overall: We use this system every day to manage our manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution activities.

Pros: The ability to gather data on cost, and labor. Inventory tracking is probably the most useful aspect of this software.

Cons: The user interface is very clunky, and hard to navigate. The capability of the program is hard to realize due to how difficult it is to use.

I have, on multiple occasions, pulled my hair out trying to figure out why the program will not cooperate, only to find there was some missing information somewhere. Ok, this is my fault, but wouldn't it be nice if even the smallest window could pop up to say there is an error?

Sometimes I sign in and forget to actually click on the little green check mark. Turns out if you push the enter key to sign in results in the program window disappearing from the screen with no warning or indication as to why. One winds up waiting the several minutes expected for the program to respond only to find it is not opening after all.

The promise of what this software could enable a business to do is amazing. It is truly a shame how non-user friendly it is.

Pros: Easy to navigate

Overall: It has helped tracking of real job cost exponentially. For our type of service there needs to be other options available for reports (I realize we can pay you for custom reports but for our type of business it seems like it should already be there). Also I think that in estimate/quote/orders there should be two lines for misc. tooling/charge because a lot of times there is a setup charge that is recurring and tooling charges that are not always recurring but are incurred none the less. You should also be able to bring data into estimate from quote instead of only the other way around. Small business service companies don't have the time to create an estimate in order to give a price on a job. We can look at a part after being around for almost 60 years and say, eh that looks like about a $200 job. We purchase no material, it is all customer supplied so there are no costs associated with the job other than our labor and occasionally tooling so it is a waste of time to make an estimate when you may not even win the job. We type up a quote and then maybe 3 days or maybe 3 weeks later we win the job I want to be able to go into estimate at this point and pull in the info from my quote...part number, pricing, description....then I can add the routing and the part notes.

To tell the truth...

Pros: As a previous user of a competitors software, I must say that the ease of use is extremely important to any company; and I find E2 very user friendly! It's everything you need to know or see at your fingertips.

Cons: Our company has transitioned since inception of E2 and now we do an incredible amount of large assemblies and they are on kanban. This is the only area that I can honestly say I wish there was a better way to keep track of stock jobs and inventory. *Small assemblies not on kanban are a piece of cake*

Overall: I started using E2 in 2006 when I began working at Precision Technologies. The software was already installed but it wasn't fully integrated throughout the company. Routers were minimal, no time wanding...just a lot of things that needed to be implemented. I found it extremely easy to get it up and running to where all could benefit from the information collected by E2. Soon we were ready for ISO...and because the software helped to organize our company, that was easy to do!

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are looking for a way to organize your company or are not happy with the software you are currently using...it would be well worth it to have E2 do a demo.

E2 is a fully functional Shop program that is user friendly and a great product.

Pros: The software allows you to create items on the fly to eliminate down time.

E2 is very customizable to your specific needs in your organization.

E2 has integrated the various currencies that are used in transactions.

The software has user security so that you can limit the information seen by each user

It is a fully functional program that takes the part from inception and quote stage to the full out Order processing and then to shipping.

We love the integration with Data Collection to minimize input of labour entries

Customer Service is great and they can usually fix the issue within 1 or 2 phone calls unless it is a larger issue but is also escalated to keep the down time to a minimum.

It is also pretty easy to teach new employees on how to use the program.

Cons: The software is a great product and I really don't have anything we don't like about the program. We use it daily and very rarely do we have any issues.

Pros: 1. No IT guy cost to maintain server.

2. Can use inexpensive workstations. We use Chromebooks for data collection. I also use a chromebook for trips.

3. Android/Apple app for tablets that can be used for data collection

4. Also just released an app for employees to check in and out from their phone. You can post stock from this app.

5. Work from anywhere. I was in Minnesota 2 weeks ago during a blizzard. I was at starbucks, posted up next to the window, working on my chromebook with no hick ups.

6. New updated features over the old system. Better reports. More capable Hot Spots.

7. Works the same as the old system, just things are in different spots.

8. Better, more efficient user interface

9. Easier to customize reports

10. Just introduced Dashboards

Cons: 1. The subscription price.

2. Cert control in general can be better.

3. Employee Clock in Module is a pain. You cannot edit someone time until they are clocked out.

The product seems to be in design stage. Many things don't work as expected and tech support admits they don't know why something is happening.

Comments: Looks like they may have a good product if they get a lot of bugs worked out. Not ready for sale yet but they'll gladly sell it to you. If your shop is big enough to pay for this type of software and you need real time data entry as well as cost/pricing included for each job find something else. If you just want to keep a schedule go for something like Just Plan It or Odoo and use Quickbooks for the money side of things. You'll save a lot of money.

Pros: It does an OK job for the money but honestly they need to do some work on the programming side. Seems like a product that should still be in the design stage.

Cons: They make it difficult for floor guys to post stock to projects, the data recorder centers constantly don't clock guys into jobs, they don't allow for dry times in-between production stages, there are several things that do not work or don't work as they are supposed to, the time clock for employees doesn't automatically adjust for over time if a manual correction is made, the printing set up is terrible (I know this seems silly but it make a big difference), you can't have multiple tabs open so every time you want to move to a different section the browser has to update and many other small but big issues.

Pros: Relative ease of use. I like how the modules work together as you create estimates, add them to quotes, and ultimately, convert the quotes to orders. If you spend your time doing a thorough job on the estimate, the rest of the process flows easily from there.

Cons: Some of the canned reports and screens aren't well laid out.

Lack of multiple routing capability for an item.

No part where-used, which is important when you are using multi-level bills.

Overall: I have been using this software for the past six years in a small, make-to-order machine shop. I use it for everything from the estimating process through invoicing and financial performance reporting. In general, it serves me very well. We do not have sufficient bandwidth to use it to it's full potential, but hope to grow to the level where we can. Shoptech also does a good job of support, which is key with any business control system.

Recommendations to other buyers: This is a very strong package, but it requires a lot of bandwidth to use it to it's full potential. Depending on your size, only populate and use what you can properly support, and then add to what you're using as you grow.

Comments: I worked for a custom automotive shop who ventured into vehicle production and parts manufacturing. One of the business owners, who was the financial partner and NOT knowledgeable in any of the fields, was talked into buying this software. It fell on me to set up our business data and operations into this software. My experience is extensive in not only the necessary automotive fields, but also above average in database management and organization. Having worked for small and large shops, we used everything from specialty automotive shop management systems and custom SQL databases to Epicor Vista to the big boys' software of SAP, and Oracle. The positive of E2 - They did help ensure the product was properly installed and set up and tried to resolve my issues. The negative of E2 - It could not handle the type of work management for production, parts builds, vehicle assemblies, and related management. My employers were very upset to learn this was not working out. Naturally, they blamed me first. I demanded that the owner (purchaser of E2), E2 support, and I have a conference call to discuss the whole thing. The result of the conference call vindicated me and led to the dismantling of E2 for this company. The support at E2 was up and down - partly from lack of availability to not knowing how to resolve our problem. They did ultimately agree with me, as I proved to them what was happening. They benefitted from my misfortune, as I learned some software issues which needed addressing. I suppose a later version may have resolved some of it, but it was actually giving false information. Overall, I imagine the system is okay for some small business operations - and NOT for what my employer bought it. I do not blame E2 for that - They could not know what we were doing if the purchaser did not articulate it properly. No one else at our shop knew how to use it. Again, not the fault of E2. It did force the "showdown" call to PROVE I was correct. I think E2 was more supportive than my employers and co-workers. They probably stared at the multi-page report for hours with a blank look. SUMMARY E2 might be for you if you have a basic operation. As far as manufacturing, it may be okay if assembling furniture but not for complex manufacturing environments. Support is generally cooperative. I much prefer specialty software for my various applications.

Comments: After using it for about 18 months now, it still continues to be frustrating. We are supposedly the first shop to use it on a "cloud," and it for whatever reason is not well-suited for such (Perhaps the could itself is a part of the problem - I don't know enough to say one way or the other) But the modules do not function identically. The searches behave differently between different subsections (The way I search in 'Part no.' does not produce the same results in searching in the "Description" tab.) We hired a new estimator. Even after watching the instructional videos and participating in an online class, I still spent a week over his shoulder walking him through the usage of it. The only way to learn the process of it is repetition. Rote memorization of the step by step process is the only way it works.

Pros: Versatility. It has a wide-range of application. Lots of potential if they can streamline and improve it.

Cons: Lack of depth to it's versatility - It seems more for a production shop than a custom fabrication shop. We do jobs from a dollar to millions of dollars... it doesn't fit to any of those templates. It's more for manufacturing/production than custom fabrication. No intuitive operation to the app. It's only the people who've memorized the process who can use it effectively. Completely repetitive memorization until they've learned the process to operate the modules - then there's little differences between modules. What works in one, is a bit different in another. And the layout has no natural flow, for its flow of operation it's confusing for new users...

Recommendations to other buyers: I'm hesitant to say don't purchase something... I would say this: Speak to shops like your own that are using it and see how it goes for them. Find shops that have your same profile/complexion but work a different market, and see how it's working for them.

Pros: Ease of use

Windows type appearance

Consistent menu appearance

Very user friendly, most functions are very intuitive

Great variety of reports and queries available

Quality module (auditors love it!)

Accounting module is very easy to use

Great graphics in Executive Overview

Easy to use copy functions

Job traveler layout is very clear

Very good order/part documentation capability

Very easy to flow from part generation to quote to order to billing

Document attachment function for engineering

Cons: Too user lenient, only on/off menu functionality

Audit trail does not reflect what was edited.

Text-based description box allows editing without unprocessing.

Report style is very bland and altering appearance is not optional.

Triggers and customized queries are not easy to generate and results are not consistent.

Job cost analysis does not calculate invoiced amounts when PO amounts differ.

Restricted editing of purchase order when partial quantity has been received. Suggest moving demand to 2nd line item so that PO can be altered for next release instead of moving quantity to new PO. Would also like to see document attachment in Receiver so that certs and inspection documents could be attached by user.

Overall: Although we struggled with implementation and initial system setup, overall E2 is a great system and a huge value for dollars spent! Again, as the quality system administrator, the E2 quality module affords the ease of giving auditors a quick view of the effectiveness of the QMS and does the document organization for me. Charts and graphs are quickly generated with clear data points. The quality section does not give the appearance of an "afterthought" as many, many systems' quality modules exhibit. The CFO here is still very partial to Quickbooks but I believe that we could function very well using E2's Accounting module alone.

This system was clearly built by people who understand manufacturing processes and challenges and that has clearly made all the difference!

Getting in now is a good way to get familiar with the software.

Pros: Customer support is easy to access, prompt, and very knowledgeable. For a small shop like the one I work in (less than 20 employees) going from a completely analog based system to a digital one saves a ton of time when it comes to recalling information. Being able to keep track of jobs, purchases, and inventory was our main goal and was accomplished easily using E2. Update: Previously I was critical of the state the software is currently in and was contacted by Shoptech to gain some insight on the complete overhaul E2 is going through. We had a very informative web demo and am thoroughly impressed with the improvements that are in store. The new interface is much more intuitive while still keeping the core functionality of the current E2 system, so transitioning for end-users should be relatively easy. The power and flexibility of the system has been enriched, bringing multiple open modules, higher limits on searches, easier search filtering; essentially the ability to get/enter information faster and with fewer clicks. Scalability is coming too! It's an update that I'm looking forward to getting.

Cons: The web demo answers many grievances that we have with the current E2 software. An issue, from a small shop perspective, that came up was that of added cost. Everything discussed during the demo regarding pricing is unconfirmed, but due to the nature of how the new system will be implemented an added cost may be incurred separate from the current OPTIONAL maintenance structure. Many small shops will have to weigh the benefits of maintaining a subscription to that of staying with the older system they're currently using. Hopefully scale of operations is taken into consideration when the actual prices are set.

Recommendations to other buyers: I will definitely be revising this review after the update is implemented (for better or worse). For now, if you're in the market for shop software definitely give E2 a look and ask about the new system in the works.

Amazed at all the capabilities of the software Love the web based version!!!

Comments: I love this software. The moment I was introduced to the software I was hooked. It can be overwhelming when you first try to implement it and get into using it everyday but the support staff are amazing. I have worked with both the E2 shop server based software and the new web based version and the web based is so easy to implement, and the fact that it is self maintained, helps for everyone who doesn't have a full time IT person and feels like they are technically challenged. Also it does not matter what size your shop is, if you want true accurate job costing, this is for you.

Pros: The ease of use and the mobility of the web version is amazing that you can have access any time, any where. Being able to use smart phones and tablets for data collection puts a terminal in every persons hand. No more taking time to go to a terminal to log in and out. Which was our number one complaint from employees when we first started using E2

Pros: It is very easy to use. It is very stable and dependable.

It is very powerful. The implementation team did an outstanding job of understanding our business and processes, then setting up E2 to mirror our business.

Cons: No complaints. It does everything we need it to do.

Overall: We have been users for over 8 years. We implemented E2 and went live in about 3 weeks. Within 6 months, we were using all of the modules. Support is great. We had a dedicated contact for the first year. After that, the support line has very short wait times. My questions are usually answered before I get off of the phone.

The best thing I can say is that we have not had any downtime in 8 years due to and E2 problem!

Recommendations to other buyers: Do your homework before implementing. Understand how you want thing to work and what data you want to bring into the system. This will help your consultant make the implementation quick and tailored to your needs.

We had E2 since 1998 it was an excellent software system. Sadly it is not so great anymore.

Pros: It is windows based software so it makes using it intuitively. The original modules work really well.

Cons: Tech support not being able to solve bugs in the system. Scheduling and Quality modules don't perform well and aren't intuitive at all. Our customer service representative is only interested in selling products and services not in helping us resolve performance issues with the system.

Overall: It works well keeping us up to date with financials, is okay but flawed at time keeping. Our front office has to spend 2 hours every morning adjusting it. You can tell which job an employee is clocked into. Routing and estimation works well if you are very experienced with a lot of machining and programming background. There are other software packages that don't require as much skill to use.

Pros: As General Manager for a small family run job shop what I liked most about E2 was their customer service and support as well as the user friendly interface that the software provides. E2 is a simple to use yet powerful MRP system that allowed us to go from all manual processes (e.g., quoting, order processing, invoicing, etc.) to a fully computerized, database driven system that allows us to track jobs, cycle times, attendance, etc. With different modules you can add on when you are ready, E2 is ready to grow with your business as you need! It does everything our shop needs it to do!

Cons: No complaints! We have renewed our maintenance every year because we like the support and updates we get to keep an updated system at all times.

Recommendations to other buyers: When comparing other products, really make sure you focus on the interface and ''user-friendly'' ability of inputting data and generating reports. This was something that we noticed right away when we compared E2 with other systems. The way the software is laid out makes it easy to understand and interact with E2 to get the results you need. Also, check about the customer service because E2's service and help line is second to none!

Pros: The ease of use and layout of the system make working... as if you're not working! With quick-keys, you can zip from one screen and onto another to get more information on the subject you are inquiring about or make immediate edits. The E2 system can hold so much info on items stored within it that it is too bad that we do not take advantage of it.

Cons: There appeared to be glitches within the database, but after 7 years of investigation, I found that the issues were the cause of multiple users making changes to a particular subject (to the item itself, a job, an order, etc). I wish that the E2 system would have warning pop-ups, like ones you see on website forums ("there is a new post... do you wish to read it before submitting yours?"), which gives a user acknowledgement that information has been changed by another user prior to submitting any other changes.

Recommendations to other buyers: It is critical that you balance the needs and wants of how you will use the E2 system before purchasing. Are you having to make changes to how your production is to run? If not, how will the information be different in the system than it is on your current program?

Pros: Experience: We are a small family owned business , and we did our research and E2 was the best company to offer shop control in conjunction with our ISO certification. We have been using E2 since 2010.

Cons: Reports do not allow for customization for our specific needs, it can be done but there is an additional cost. We found the scheduling system a challenge to make work.

Overall: The basic software works great for our needs even though most of our production is jobbing "once offs". When we have special requirements , Shoptech offers custom programming.

They will work with us to find a solution, and their service is done in a courteous and timely matter.

Recommendations to other buyers: E2 is a good Software to use but needs one dedicated IT person to understand and implement.

Pros: The software is easy to use and everything ties together nicely. There is a good flow to the way the modules work together when you use them properly.

Cons: The security levels are either all or nothing. If you give someone access to a particular module, they have full access to it. There are many cases where an employee may need to view something without being able to modify it whether on purpose or by accident. A read only and read-write option would be great.

Overall: We got more people in the shop involved and it improves the flow of information throughout the company. It also allowed us to eliminate numerous spreadsheets and other software and consolidate into one program.

Pros: It is easy. Easy to get into trouble deleting information especially in the AP Mod. Check writing Mod has a glitch that affects GL Mod. AP Mod doesn't match due to GL Mod. A mess.

Cons: We are trying to fit a round object into a square hole..doesn't work

Overall: Shoptech upgrades are of no value and they charge greatly for their annual support renewal. There is no spell check in the quoting module, no billing address alternatives in AR, no easy way to check previous pricing in purchasing mod, financial mod is not always accurate, need to repost.

Recommendations to other buyers: The reports are from Crystal in our case. Make sure that someone understands this software and can make changes to your reports. You will input everything in E2 and get little out on the reporting end.

From Receiving raw material to Shipping finished product ou, E2 helps keep track of it all for us.

Pros: I mainly use E2 to help set up new jobs/parts. The ability to easily create new parts, assign material, add labor times, and assign each part to a bill of materials is what I like most about the software. It doesn't take me too long to set up an entire multi tier BOM and have costing out by the end of the day.

Cons: The interface seems a bit dated but it gets the job done. Inventory counts can be a bit of a nightmare but we also aren't taking full advantage of the software's capabilities. Hopefully over the next few years we will grow to take full advantage of what E2 has to offer to help keep track of jobs/inventory.

Comments: I have used E2 Shop Control software at multiple companies. It is versatile for different types of companies. It is intuitive and easy to use. The icons on the home screen layout the processes and make the software easy to understand with minimal training. I love having one program which encompasses all processes and data, eliminating the need to re-enter information into multiple systems. This prevents mistakes too!

Pros: Shoptech's customer support is second to none. Every time I have a question or concern, any technical support rep that answers the phone is immediately able to help me and walk me through exactly what I need to do to fix my issue.

Recommendations to other buyers: Give E2 a try! Contact Shoptech to set up a free demo.

Pros: Consistency between modules makes ease of use sense

Cons: Scheduler does not go deep enough for our needs

Overall: Excellent Customer support and the ability to problem solve Job Shop issues with product knowledge. We utilize 90 percent of E2 in our business and are happy with its performance in all areas.

It is a very powerful tool that creates valuable reports in which we can make knowledgeable decisions based on facts to drive the business forward on a daily basis.

Recommendations to other buyers: Well worth the effort to implement. I don't think there is an easy way to implement any software of this depth. It forces a business to look deep into itself as to how it wants to operate ect.. and forces you to make decisions that will affect the direction of the company in the future pro actively.

Comments: Pros: inventory tracking, bin locations, time and attendance, detailed work orders, scheduling, combine purchase orders for multiple sales orders & work orders, move allocated stock between orders, keep track of employee time, QuickBooks sync Cons: Not user-friendly, difficult reporting, not flexible, requires onsite server installation & support, costly maintenance & training, has random errors that can delete information. Our Experience: When we purchased E2 Shop System 3 years ago, I was not involved in the purchase, and there was not proper research done to make sure this system was the best for our company. We are a small order manufacturer and distributor of doors and windows. There was a high starting cost to purchase the software and we had to invest in an on-site server to host the program. During implementation, I feel that there was not proper training or support available, and our business inefficiencies dropped to the point of nearly breaking the company. E2 does offer phone support during business hours if you pay the yearly maintenance fee, but there is limited other help information, so we were never able to implement some parts of the system (i.e. the time tracking for each project and scheduling for each workstation). There is not a built-in configurator, so we had to create part numbers and build a bill of materials as well as routing for each of our assemblies. Some of our employees work off-site and cannot access the system or time and attendance as it is server based, resulting in them having to take their time separately. We used QuickBooks for our accounting as the E2 accounting module was not as robust and we also had to purchase a separate CRM (Landslide) for tracking our sales and marketing activities. We have now chosen to switch to a cloud software, allowing us to combine all three of our previous systems and have much more functionality and reporting access.

Pros: Easy to learn and use

Customer support is top notch

Cons: Having to type the exact nickname to find customer/vendor, etc.

Overall: We have been using E2 since 1997. The software is very user friendly and easy to learn. The customer support team is friendly and takes care of any issues with the first phone call 99% of the time. The sales staff calls/emails several times a year to make sure we aren't having any problems and to see if we need anything. They are not one of those companies that just sell you a product and then you never hear from them again. We have referred many companies we work with to them and the ones that purchased E2 really love the software. From the product, to customer service, to support E2 is a top notch company!

Pros: Shop Tech support has been very helpful at times when it was needed and we love how easy E2 is to learn and use. When I started my job 2 years ago I was offered to attend an off site overnight training but decided to learn the software myself and it was quite easy to do. I have actually taught other users things that they never knew how to do and they had been using it for 10+ years. E2 is the largest reason that our shop has become 100% efficient with on time delivery, and being in the aerospace manufacturing industry we all know how important that it! The HOT SPOTS tool & LOADING SUMMARY are used daily.................

Cons: We have a small ongoing hiccup with the machine capacity module vs. scheduling of jobs and have been unable to overcome this struggle with Shoptech support, although we have all tried on a few occasions to do so. As a team I believe that we will eventually figure it out. Other than that, there is not much negative that we can provide.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's not the cheapest out there, but it is definitely worth looking into. I've been in the manufacturing industry for almost 20 years and I truly believe it has everything that you could possibly be looking for.

Comments: Our company is a precision CNC machining job shop with ISO9001:2008 certification. We specialize in difficult to machine raw materials and products. The software we were using prior to E2 was designed by a private individual but was not expandable to cover our needs as our business grew. When we were upgrading our business software, we wanted a product that would provide information necessary to create charts and reports for administrative purposes, shop travelers for production, inventory management, quality control, purchasing, quoting, shipping, and receiving. Also important to us was the ability to link drawings, material certs, and other documents to the various parts that we produce for our customers. We looked at several products but chose the E2 Shop System because it provided all these requirements and was the most user friendly in our opinion. We could also sync it with our QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions software and not have to pay for additional accounting software. We have been using E2 now for 10 years and have had nothing but a great experience with our E2 software and the support the company has provided us when we needed help, updates, etc. The training provided to our employees was very thorough and was very easy to learn. Our implementation was a very good experience. We recently completed our ISO9001:2008 certification. When the Stage II auditor called us to arrange for our audit date, one of the questions he asked us was what kind of software we used for the shop. Before I could answer, he asked if it was E2. I told him it was, and he told me that over his 25-year career, he was very familiar with E2 and thought it was one of the best shop system software products available. I agree. It is a product that can be expanded as your business grows. As the owner of a small business for 28 years, I highly recommend the E2 Shop System for your business as well.

A great catalyst to our company!

Pros: Easy to use once you understand how the product works.I've been using E2 for over 20 years now and it has helped us grow our buisness by leaps and bounds. I would definitely recommend training like anything else. The training made a world of difference. Excellent product. I would recommend it to anyone in the manufacturing industry.

Cons: I wish I would have started with the whiteboard when we were a smaller company. It would have made implementing the whiteboard a lot easier to earlier in growth than later. Otherwise I don't really have to much to complain about.

Pros: The best aspect about using E2 is access to support when required. Over the 2 years we have been using this product, we have reached out to technical support numerous times to maximize the value out of all the modules. Most of the support staff at E2 are very knowledgeable about the product or would point us to a more senior technical person if a challenge is not easily fixed. In addition, E2 takes customer feedback on usability and improvements very seriously and most recommendations are provided in follow-on updates quickly.

Cons: Product speed can certainly be improved upon. Given this is SQL based system, product reaction time and processing time was below expectations upon initial implementation. However, many speed related improvements have been made by E2 to correct for those issues. While improvements areas still exist in this area, it has become better over time for the SQL version.

Recommendations to other buyers: The evaluation team should come up with real BOM's and process flows based on their company's day to day operations and replicate that during the evaluation process. Using the generic 10 line sales BOM is not helpful if the real BOMs are hundreds of lines deep.

Pros: As more modules become implemented, the system builds in a synergistic way and adds more value and organization to our operations. The system allows us a lot of control over our process and becomes a great tool that can be used to train new people to the business, completing their role correctly and consistently with existing employees. With E2, our sales team always has instant information and history on any past customer transactions and can reference old orders and data very quickly and easily.

Cons: We are limited to what the system can or cannot do; sometimes, we need to change and conform to work within it's capabilities. We are still struggling with challenges on scheduling employees vs work centers.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to set up everything as well as possible. Better setup and better input will give much better results. Implement one thing at a time; take the biggest priorities and needs of your company and start there. As you grow, perform and become comfortable with the system, then start adding on and implementing more.

Comments: I suggest having a consultant on site for 1-2 days to get everything configured correctly. We did it on our own and had a consultant come in later to help us clean up.

Pros: The software itself is easy to use. They have excellent Support. There are lots of features and options.

Cons: Set-up can be difficult if you do not think things through thoroughly. You might have to go back and redo things again. Reports are very basic. They can be customized, but only through Crystal Reports. You will need the full version and some expertise. Otherwise you have to pay ShopTech for customization.
