Sr. Director of Experiential Learning Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Authentic Skills Development & Assessment" May 20, 2024 5.0 It's a great tool for soft skills assessment and development, like communication and interpersonal skills (e.g. empathy). We've also used it for demonstrating a skill or procedure like venipuncture. The implementation/customer service team is very prompt with returning emails and answering/resolving any questions/issues. Pros The use of video which makes things more engaging and authentic. The integration options - we use it in two different LMSs. The AI feedback mechanism, which provides instant FB to learners and helps relieve facilitators' time. The assessment options - you can do a star rating, rubric, percentage, auto-submit, and more. Ability to use the "practice" mode versus the "assessment" mode, where you can provide unlimited attempts versus a single hotseat attempt. Cons The inability to do self-assessment only using a rubric; when using a rubric, the instructor also has to grade to mark it "complete". The processing time of the videos; it seems slower than other video platforms I've used. Professor Higher Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Bongo for languages" May 15, 2024 4.0 Pros \- great tool for students to record their speaking abilities in second languages - great tool to provide time stamped feedback (my favorite feature) - great tool for quizzes within a video recording (students watch a video and answer some questions throughout the video) - quick customer service respond - students pay just once for use, regardless of how many semesters they use it Cons \- can be a little tricky to set up each semester (not always instinctive) - grading is not flexible if we want an assignment on a specific scale (it is automatically out of 100) Switched from [GoReact](https://www.capterra.com/p/210474/GoReact/) Go React was too expensive to maintain as each new semester a student would use it, they would be charged. " February 13, 2022 4.0 Pros Once I got used to using Bongo, it was relatively easy way to use. I thought the functionality to break up your participants into break out rooms. It is also very accessible via mobile. Cons I don’t have any really big cons to mention. It took a bit to get used to the platform as I was very used to using Google Meet and GoTo Meeting. It is user-friendly and accessible, allowing students to upload and submit video assignments, view peer reviews, and receive instructor feedback. The tool supports experiential learning by enabling students to participate in assignments that involve video or audio recordings, helping them to develop soft skills such as communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. At McGill, Bongo is utilized in numerous language courses, providing a unique way for instructors and students to interact and converse during assessments. With four different types of video assignments available, the tool caters to various learning styles and objectives, ensuring that every student can find a format that suits their strengths and educational needs. It facilitates one-on-one interactions between students and instructors, as well as promotes peer-to-peer learning and collaborative projects within the classroom. Cons I have an idea for a new assignment type that would enable students to submit video assignments and receive in-line comments from their peers. While I am aware of the peer assessment feature, I would like a different feature that would allow students to see and review everyone's work at a glance, rather than having assignments randomized through anonymous peer assessment. In-line comments would also be very helpful. Additionally, it would be great to have a feature that lets instructors preview assignments from the student's perspective. Instructor Primary/Secondary Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Essential tool for language classes" May 15, 2024 5.0 Pros \*time-stamped comments \*ability to create rubric for assessing \*different types of assessments available \*synchronized with LMS \*possibility to copy past assignments from one semester to the next Cons I wish we could set a number of tries for the Q&A assessments. I like that the camera turns on so students have to spontaneously response, with no preparation, but they sometime mess up so it would be great to have two tries for example. It helps with our learners in real time. Pros The features and the AI Coaching capabilities, spot on!! It has really helped us with instant coaching needs. We are able to design training and assessments that utilize this feature over our widespread footprint. This allows our SME's to review submitted answers without traveling all over the country. Cons At this point in time I do not have any negative experiences with Bongo. If anything a con would be that we are unable to apply it more to our training plans.
