Lawyer Law Practice Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Esi Law is the best product I have used for my Law Firm & their support staff is phenomenal " November 17, 2022 5.0 I am solving all my issues, billings for general and trust accounts, time tracking, client management, accounting. Pros Esi law is extremely easy to use once you do the tutorial and watch videos online provided by the company. Also, I use the billings software, client management, conflict search, trust accounting daily and it has made my self so much easier. Additionally, their support staff are nothing short of amazing. Whenever I have an issue (which is rarely), I get support/help right away and I do not have to wait hours on hold. I am instantly contacted through email and their customer service is beyond exceptional. I have had the pleasure of having the help of many support staff but \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] in particular who has always helped me, followed up and made sure I had no issues whatsoever. He has made my usage of Esi Law 100x better with his amazing customer service, great guy! Cons So far there is nothing I do not like about Esi Law. I am learning to incorporate more of it's features as I go. I like having a central area to go for all of the information I need on a file. Cons I have always been disappointed by the lack of a training manual. I could solve a lot of problems on my own if I had the training manual instead of calling and waiting for days for a reply from customer service. Also, only having two people available to help is not helpful. It would be better if someone answered the call when I need help and helped me in that very moment. The help function through the program is horrible. Developer Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "NOT friendly for IT admins who value time" November 28, 2025 1.0 I would describe my experience with Unity Accounting as a complete waste of my time. I have spent more time manually installing this product when I should have only configured it ONCE. Do not use this product if you value your time! A very simple MSI installation package or some basic effort to allow an admin to deploy your product would make a LOAD of difference. Pros As an IT admin, I personally do not like this product. Its not easy to install, its not easy to deploy, literally 0 effort was spent in making it easy to deploy this product to the end user seamlessly. Cons As an IT admin, its quite frustrating to be forced to use a "user setup" method. We need to log the user in manually, wait for their profile to load and then manually install the software. The company has provided NO means for automation here. I do not recommend using this software. It will waste your admin time, your IT time and your employee's time. Review Source JB JOANNE B. Esilaw is what is says Pros We started off with Esilaw original version which worked fine. The new version Esilaw 360 is much improved as regards to time entering - easy to go back to correct dates and entries, all the reporting requirements are clear and it's easy to access everything the business or Law Society requires. Billing is very easy to use and very easy to read pre-bills and make adjustments, as well as reversing or editing after. Cons There have been a few glitches. My main complaint would be with timing of support. Support is very good with regard to advice, fixing a problem or correcting errors, but what use to be same day support, it now takes a few days. Pros After using several softwares, I find that Esilaw is exactly what it claims; "Easy". All aspects of the system are very straight forward. The customer service is terrible, the system is terrible, and there is no user help manual so you are forced to contact the service department, which means hours or days of waiting to get assistance. Pros This is a program that is designed for trust accounting, which is a critical component of Canadian legal practice, but the software is terrible, not intuitive, has extremely poor support options, and is really expensive. Cons The whole program is old, outdated, not intuitive, comes with zero user manual, and support options are limited to phoning (oh, wait, they cancelled that option) or sending a help request via the Dye and Durham website. It is a ton of money annually, for a terrible product that has never been improved or modernized. Reason for choosing Unity Accounting There are few other options and I was familiar with ESIlaw. Senior Law Clerk/Paralegal Law Practice Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "The proof is in the name" April 21, 2021 5.0 My Overall experience with this program is that it is user friendly and more then adequate for smaller Firm's who need proper accounting software to do day to day Law Firm trust and general accounts reconciling. Pros What I like most about this software is the ease of use in adding new clients, disbursements, trust receipts as well as the simple looking user interface. At first it is a little intimidating as I have come from using strictly PCLaw but I have found that you can easily adjust to this new program in a short amount of time. Cons What I like least about this software is how I am unable to insert numbers and letters into the "Receipt Number" field when receiving funds into trust via Wire. When selecting "Payment Type", "Wire" it then requires that you enter a "Receipt Number" which should correspond with your receipt into your Firm's trust account. Without allowing me to enter letters as well the Receipt Number will not 100% match the incoming wire reference number from our bank account. Which could prove to be messy should we be receiving multiple wires in on the same day with similar receipt numbers. Review Source AB Amanda B. Customer service is terrific and I would recommend this product to others. Pros ESILaw 360 is easy to use and provides the reports our office needs on a daily basis. Owner Accounting Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "I have been using it from a Trust Accounting perspective for my customer and find it frustrating." August 1, 2017 2.0 very few. Pros easy to get around. I originally liked the remote access idea.... but that got quashed when the customer got hacked. Cons Where to start....cant correct anything...have to reverse and re enter. Bank Recs are 4 pages long for a simple bank rec because they put only a couple things on each page. No list of cleared items to reference back to. The P&L and Balance Sheet need to be condensed to take up less space both on the screen and in the event you need to print it. The data integrity report should be date specific so as to make it easier to pin point errors and address them. They are still having data glitches which are frustrating for the user. The bank journals need to be condensed so that in the event you need to print them they don't take up 50 sheets of paper. I have requested training twice and have yet to be contacted and there is no documentation for self education. Review Source Response from Dye & Durham August 14, 2017 The user has very little legal accounting experience, hence their lack of understanding as it pertains to the need for extensive audit trails due to law society and state bar requirements. They also requested training and we responded immediately on both occasions, but were unable to reach them directly. The vast majority of their complaints were unsubstantiated or trivial in nature. The hack noted in the review had absolutely nothing to do with our company or product. Company Director Financial Services Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Esilaw: Your One Stop File Shop" September 16, 2022 5.0 Overall, whether I am looking into a new matter, entering time and disbursements, or generating a statement of account for a client, Esilaw is the software I turn to again and again because it is a solid contender in its space, and it is highly reliable. Definitely recommend. Pros Esilaw is great for being able to do pretty much anything. From organizing clients, matters, billing using templates and custom narratives, I really couldn't ask for more. Cons I know that the pricing on this software is quite high, which is not great, but given how much it accomplishes for me on a daily basis, I would say that the price is at least somewhat justified. Used the software for: ### "Not ready for production" September 23, 2016 1.0 We are a small law office that had been use to running esilaw for over 10 years prior to deciding to "upgrade" to esilaw 360. The experience has been nothing short of aweful. From the complete lack of user documentation, to a user interface that doesn't appropriately address workflow of the software, the implementation of the new system into a production environment has been a nightmare. For something that is supposed to save a firm time (and therefore money) needed to manage client accounts, trust accounts etc....in the end, we are beginning to think that paper and pen might actually save us time and effort compared to this pre-beta released software. Absolutely unacceptable to have this out as a production version. The only plus really is the fact that customer support usually answer their calls when called during their stated business hours. Pros Until we can get it to work, none yet. Cons Absolutely no documentation on how to use the software. Used the software for: ### "Great product - our firm is very satisfied" December 12, 2016 4.0 We recently switched from ESILAW to ESILAW 360 and the new product is fantastic. It was a very easy installation and migration of our data and the new user interface makes the product so much easier to use. They really thought out how a law firm works and tailored the features and functionality to make every day that much easier to complete. Support is fantastic and really helped us through the transition.
