Pros I have been using Toggl for a very long time (perhaps since it's release!) and it is continually being improved upon with each iteration and update. I love how easy it is to use and I especially love the ability to create and view detailed reports as they pertain to client work or projects. Also, as silly as it sounds, I love the simply design and pie charts to show where you spent your time on tasks within a project. Also the fact that you can use the app on your phone and desktop just promotes time tracking easily at your fingertips wherever you are doing your current task. Cons The only caveat I would say is that you need to think about how you want to break your projects into tasks and groupings in order to get the most out of your reports. I have used other time-tracking apps that turned out to be bundled together with invoicing and I simply don't need that. I bill fixed retainers and only record hours for internal purposes so that I can course correct if I am ahead or behind on work and fix time-sucks. Other tools like Harvest wanted to integrate it all and it was heavy. I can't remember how I found Toggl but it was perfect. I had a hard time understanding the difference between Clients & Projects, at first. It was easy to pick up but I think I got confused with a UI change years ago. No problems since. Pros Out of the box, simple to use. Simple pricing and a free tier. The reporting is really simple but has 4 default views. This makes analysis really easy, knowing that I can see my work for an individual client over the course of a week, month, or year with just a couple clicks. Cons I have found the latest UI update has made clicking the Start button in the web UI to be pretty slow, I end up having to click it twice a lot and that is annoying. But I don’t think toggl is clear about where it positions this product beyond systematic time tracking and an online clock. We have converted most of our team to Togggl and are excited to bring in some of the integrations that come with paid plans to be able to eliminate some of the admin duties and close some of the cracks we find in communication from time to time. Pros The lack of ads is wonderful! I use the free version and have found Toggl makes things much simpler for me. The reporting is great and the amount of tools offered in the free version is great. I switched from another product and my reporting of where my time is going has never been more detailed and has helped me keep on track. Tracking time is super quick and easy, especially on task that I do week after week, Toggl stores the information and auto-populates so it saves me those few seconds and gets me working faster. I love it. I also love sending in such a detailed and good looking timesheet each period, way better than just a csv boring spreadsheet. I know we are only scratching the surface with what Toggl can do, hopefully as we grow our Toggl use and team will grow too to be able to streamline even more with their integrations. Cons The only thing so far that inconveniences me is the inability to export reports on the Android app. I don't know if that is something that is coming to it eventually, or if that is only available with a different level of plan. But I am 80% of the time mobile and need to send in reports on the go, which isn't too much of a problem that I am always with a laptop. But having to go that extra step does cost me a few minutes here and there. Exporting from mobile would be a huge help. Review Source SM Sarah M. Pros I've used Toggl for many years. It's great for tracking time against specific projects or customers. I also like that my whole team can track against a project or customer to give a company-wide view. Cons The pre-set time span on the reporting feature doesn't always work well, especially when you select something like 'previous month'. I find entering a data range provides more accurate results. Cons Some reporting could be improved and the occasional change to the user interface can at times take a bit of getting used to but this is generally worth the end improvements. Pulling information or reports from the team is solid as well. Pros The best part of the software is the User Experience (on desktop, mobile is lacking). It is easy to log, tag and mark your time billed or unbilled. There are integrations to other products we use as well, such as Jira, which our team uses to help log their time. Cons There are features that are behind the price tiers where the value would be nice, but too much increase in cost. Locking timesheets and scheduled reports should come in a cheaper tier. After our first week with Toggl, my son was able to decrease the amount of time he spent getting distracted by a full hour each day. When I showed him just how much time he was spending on each class, and how much quicker he finished his assignments when he just focused he was able to see the positives. Pros I use Toggl to track both mine and my child's schoolwork on a daily basis. While he is simply navigating third grade compared to my taking classes to receive my bachelor's degree, Toggl helps us both immensely. The ability to track how much time you spend on each class is very helpful and let's you see just how productive you are. You can see how much time you have spent on a specific task/class or during a specific time period. This allows you to see which areas you might be spending too much time on. Toggl has shown me that I was spending roughly the same amount of time working on each classes' assignments, apart from one class. I further noted that I spent an additional 30 minutes a day finishing my work for Accounting and planned my future days accordingly. What I really love about it is how it allows me to track how much time my son is spending on each of his classes, especially since he is in virtual online school this year. There have been times where instead of learning his multiplication problems in Math, I have found him watching videos on Youtube and with Toggl tracking how much time he spends on each class I can easily see when and where he is getting distracted or may need help. November 3, 2020 5.0 Pros I subscribed to Toggl specifically and only for the time tracking feature since I was looking for a tool allowing me to keep track of the time I spend on single projects while my day is often fragmented in several activities for different customers and projects we need to track on hourly base. For this reason, I was looking for a tool allowing me to do just that: I didn't want to spend more time creating milestones and tasks and planning work ahead of time, I just needed to start a timer, track the time, stick it to a project and, at the end of the month, get a report of it. Well, Toggl does just that and it does beautifully. . . . And Toggl says it took me 10 minutes to do this review. Done. Cons I'm pretty sure that Toggls isn't perfect, I wouldn't be objective otherwise but up to now, I didn't find something I find missing or could be improved. I didn't feel any lack of features since I was basically running away from overly featured tools and found one that has just what you need. So far, so good. Pros It's easy to assign project names, labels and tasks to each timer. Cons A timer to notify you once you've spent a certain amount of time on a task would be helpful, prompting you to consider moving on to the next task. Would also be helpful to have a 'smart - tracking' feature. When you have the tab open and the app detects you are using your computer, a pop-up asking if you want to track the time would be useful for when you forget to start the timer before beginning a task. Pros I like that it's free, and even though it is free, the features are functional and you get everything you need for a basic time tracker with reports that can be exported as a PDF or Excel file. I didn't need to purchase the upgrade because I'm a solo user and the features available for the free version are all I really need. I did have a project where I collaborate with a couple other people and again, even on the free version, I was able to use the workspace/team feature with no problems. It made tracking time within the team easy. Cons I don't have any issues with Toggl, and have used this for more than 5 years in my line of work and business. I would probably recommend a setting where you can't edit the entries for members of the team, or for non-owners so that the time tracker is accurate and not manipulated. Review Source Stanislav G. You can use the desktop client or the web client - they sync in real time. Reports are awesome and my clients love them Pros It's very simple to use and provides several tiers to organize time into. The tool allows you to have workspaces and in each workspace you have further breakdowns: client -> project -> task. This allows for very good organization of your time spent and convenient reports, where you can segment time based on each of these criteria. It marks each task with a different highlight color making it easy to identify. When starting the timer you can either click start and then type your task or project to choose it from a drop down, or you simply scroll through the history of logged entries and just click on any to resume working on it. Pros Toggl Track is easy to set up and use, with tons of ways to customize. I love that I can use it across all my devices (browser, Mac app, phone, and tablet). It keeps me on track by showing my real-time tracking data next to my daily schedule, and alerts me when I've forgotten to start or stop the time clock. Cons I would like to see the Chrome extension look more like the desktop app in the future, as I'm unable to select a project to start the timer from that method. I feel confident that all of my data on time worked is correct and its great to be able to have multiple projects by different clients all listed so I can look back on how much time I actually did. Pros Creating projects is a breeze. You can attach them to different clients and see at an glance an overview of how much time you have spent overall. Also, in the rare case that the site is down or your internet is out, you can add time spent into a project manually after the fact. Cons When you look at the overview of all the time spent on a single project it always rounds down to the lower hour, which means sometimes I've worked literally 8 hours and 58 minutes on a project but it says I've only worked 8 hours until I click into it and look further. Once I've worked more than a half an hour I round up on my time so its a minor inconvenience to have to click in every time to make sure when its time to invoice. Superior to similar competitors. Cons There was a switch in branding several years ago, and something about the aesthetics made it so unpalatable to use that I ended up switching to a similar but slightly inferior competitor. The Chrome extension makes it easy to use without having to go to the site and log in! Cons Not really a complaint or con but it would be nice to have a beginning date to a project and an end date so that the project gets archived once the end date is reached.
