Healthchecks.io

## What is Healthchecks.io?

A fully-managed, hosted cron job and periodic task monitoring service. When any of your cron jobs or background tasks does not run at the expected time, Healthchecks detects an issue and notifies you. Healthchecks is open-source (the code is BSD licensed and available on GitHub) and can be self-hosted. Our hosted monitoring service has a generous free plan (you can monitor up to 20 jobs for free) and affordable paid plans. We offer a special discount to open-source projects and nonprofits.

Pros

It is a set it and forget it solution to an everyday concern. It's perfect for a homelab.

Cons

It only alerts you once, but I'd have to make sure it's not a setting I'm missing.

It is a piece of software that was suggested by a friend of mine and I always use it. It is a must-have in any cronjob script, to ensure that it actually run successfully. The feature to directly report an explicit error situation, simply with an HTTP GET request makes incident investigation much easier. A life saver tool!

Pros

It is extremely easy to use and its integration with curl makes it sooo comfortable to be used in almost any existing script

Cons

The projects in the free versions are limited, but I can understand that developers want people to buy the Pro version

A really solid and simple service - it reliably notifies me whenever one of my cron jobs break.

Pros

Really simple alerting rules - you only need to set how often you expect the cron job to happen and the grace period. I also like that I can use emails to trigger alerts.

Cons

I wish the email rules had a little more customisability - e.g.: one email address with rules which multiple cron jobs can be linked to, this might be helpful with notifications from my Synology NAS.

Pros

Simple to use and does exactly what it claims, and supports a wide range of integrations third-party libraries for integrating within projects. We're big users of the Terraform provider to automatically provision health checks alongside our scheduled jobs

Cons

If I was being picky I'd say the lack of overall metrics for a project/account in the website, but we just use the Prometheus exporter.

Super Dienst den ich bisher nur selbst betrieben habe. Zur gehosteten Version kann ich nichts sagen.

Pros

Sehr zuverlässig, deckt die typische Lücke im Monitoring von Diensten sehr gut ab (sind regelmäßige Prozesse wirklich ausgeführt anstatt einfacher Verfügbarkeitschecks).

Cons

OAuth/OIDC leider nicht ohne weiteres möglich. In Github gibt es für selbst betriebene Instanzen aber wenigstens Anleitungen um das selber einzubauen.
