My overall experience with Universal Data Access Components has been very positive. The product provides a comprehensive and reliable set of tools for database connectivity and data management across different platforms. It helped streamline development by offering a consistent API and strong performance, reducing the complexity of working with multiple database systems. The documentation is helpful, the components are stable, and the regular updates demonstrate a commitment to maintaining quality. Overall, it is a valuable solution that improves productivity and simplifies database application development.

Pros

What I liked most about Universal Data Access Components is its ability to provide seamless connectivity across multiple database platforms through a single, consistent framework. The components are reliable, well-documented, and easy to integrate into existing applications, which significantly reduces development time. I also appreciate the high performance, broad database support, and flexibility it offers for both simple and complex data access scenarios. The regular updates and responsive support team make it a dependable solution for developers looking to build scalable and maintainable database applications.

Cons

What I liked least about Universal Data Access Components is that the initial setup and configuration can take some time, especially for developers who are new to the product or working with multiple database types. Some advanced features may also require a bit of learning before they can be used effectively. That said, once everything is configured properly, the tool works reliably and provides strong long-term value.

It's a lifesaver. As we deal with thousands of connections and queries per minute, UniDAC was a game changer for us. Super easy, the installation and updates are super easy, the customer support is great and the performance and stability is top notch .

Pros

Great stability, performance and ease to use. Doing thousands of connections and dealing with different databases is almost transpent. The best for sure is the stability of it. It's a great prduct.

Cons

Honestly, the subscryption price is a bit harsh. Like Rad Studio's anual subscription is a thing to consider but, as a company the benefits surpass by far the price.

I purchased UniDac for a personal project I am developing with TMS Web Core and XData. Migrating from FireDac to UniDac was problem free. But, I had a vexxing problem for work where we use Microsoft SQL Server. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not make a version compatible with Windows 11 ARM (let alone Management Studio) and made it difficult for me to perform Delphi dev even in a Parallels VM on my M4 Max MBP. I ended up having to install SQL Server in a Docker container. That could be accessed using FireDac. But, there was no easy way to perform backups or to switch databases. So, I wrote a utility using Delphi 12.3 and UniDac to perform database backups and restore. I am a user of dbForge for Postgres. At some point, I expect to purchase a license for MS SQL. Until then, I use BeeKeeper. But, in the end, UniDac has been a lifesaver for me.

Pros

Its ease of connecting to a variety of databases. I work with Microsoft SQL server by day and Postgres by night. Getting connected to the various instances is a piece of cake. Staying current with the updates - always easy to install.

Cons

Honestly, the cost for a subscription is a bit of hinderence for the individual developer. FireDac is free and comes with Delphi and the recurring cost for UniDac (like Delphi) can be a drag.

Pros

I have used UniDAC components in several applications and have gained experience accessing Firebird, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server databases. And what can I say: I’m a big fan of UniDAC. These days, one might well wonder whether you have to pay to establish a connection to a database system. In the Java environment, however, hardly anyone would do this or even need to. In the Delphi or Lazarus development environments, however, the situation is different. Yes, there are free solutions, but UniDAC still offers me added value, so — provided I’m not completely broke — I’ve decided to treat myself to a UniDAC license even as a hobbyist developer, rather than struggling with alternatives. And if, as a hobbyist developer, I already consider the advantages of UniDAC over other solutions is worth the money, then in a commercial software development context, I wouldn't even have to think twice about it.

Pros

UniDAC gives me the freedom to develop Delphi applications that can connect to a wide variety of databases—and for some DB systems, this can even be done without installing additional database drivers. UniDAC offers excellent compatibility (from legacy versions like Delphi 7 to the latest release) and performance. Whenever a new major version of Delphi is released, a corresponding updated version of UniDAC is released shortly thereafter. The most compelling advantages for me compared to other solutions were the ease of setup, the broad support for IDEs and databases, the ability to access the database systems I use directly (without additional drivers)—and the speed of database access.

Cons

I can’t really think of a direct downside. Of course, there’s the price... For someone who distributes software for free—whether out of enjoyment, for personal use, or simply to share their creations—the price is certainly a hurdle. Especially since there are free alternatives like ZeosLib.

We use UniDAC for large business app with MsSQL and Firebird databases. UniDAC is highly advanced database component set for Delphi.

Pros

UniDAC provides native driver for MsSQL - no need for Microsoft OLE DB drivers, wide variety of useful properties and events and good recovery after connection breakdown and reconnect.

Cons

Fetch records management is hard to use with MsSQL. Opening query with unfetched records leads to "New transaction is not allowed because there are other threads running in the session" when another transaction tries to access same records. We programmed own requery management when user needs more records than initial load (similar to MaxRecords in ADO and client side cursor).

We use UniDAC in our company’s EMDI business management software. It has been reliable, fast, and makes it simple to connect with both Firebird and MySQL. I also really like the included dbMonitor tool, which makes it much easier to debug and trace database activity during development.

Pros

Works great with Firebird, which is our main database, and also with MySQL for our web apps. Easy to use and very stable.

Cons

Error handling could be improved. In some cases the feedback is not detailed enough, which makes debugging harder and less efficient.

We are a small company and we mainly work with Firebird and MSSQL databases. We recently started using PostgreSQL and the conversion was surprisingly easy with UniDac.

Pros

\- easy install and use - excellent performance (Firebird, MSSQL) - easy to learn, simple development

Cons

\- nothing - Updates arrive relatively often, and we always wonder if they are necessary. We usually wait for less busy days and install them then, so far we have not had any compatibility issues.
