### "The fast, the reliable and the universal database access components for Delphi/Lazarus"

March 25, 2026

5.0

I have used UniDAC components in several applications and have gained experience accessing Firebird, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server databases. And what can I say: I’m a big fan of UniDAC. These days, one might well wonder whether you have to pay to establish a connection to a database system. In the Java environment, however, hardly anyone would do this or even need to. In the Delphi or Lazarus development environments, however, the situation is different. Yes, there are free solutions, but UniDAC still offers me added value, so — provided I’m not completely broke — I’ve decided to treat myself to a UniDAC license even as a hobbyist developer, rather than struggling with alternatives. And if, as a hobbyist developer, I already consider the advantages of UniDAC over other solutions is worth the money, then in a commercial software development context, I wouldn't even have to think twice about it.

Pros

UniDAC gives me the freedom to develop Delphi applications that can connect to a wide variety of databases—and for some DB systems, this can even be done without installing additional database drivers. UniDAC offers excellent compatibility (from legacy versions like Delphi 7 to the latest release) and performance. Whenever a new major version of Delphi is released, a corresponding updated version of UniDAC is released shortly thereafter. The most compelling advantages for me compared to other solutions were the ease of setup, the broad support for IDEs and databases, the ability to access the database systems I use directly (without additional drivers)—and the speed of database access.

Cons

I can’t really think of a direct downside. Of course, there’s the price... For someone who distributes software for free—whether out of enjoyment, for personal use, or simply to share their creations—the price is certainly a hurdle. Especially since there are free alternatives like ZeosLib.

### "I highly recommend Universal Data Access Components"

August 4, 2025

5.0

Love it! I wish I would have started using it years earlier. Was very hesitant moving to a big boy database. Was used to dBase and the Absolute Database. Both worked but I needed to move to multi-million record tables. This does the job hands down.

Pros

Was able to get started and do basic functionality very quickly. With on-line searching I've been able to accomplish everything I've needed to do.

Cons

I wish there was more documentation. I see properties and procedures that I don't yet know what they do. I don't know if I even need them. Everything works as I think they should.

Switched from

[dBASE Plus](https://www.capterra.com/p/80138/dBASE-Plus/)[Absolute](https://www.capterra.com/p/115949/Absolute-Manage-MDM/)

Needed a big boy database that could handle more users and bigger datasets

### "Easy and fast to use"

July 27, 2022

5.0

Pros

one of the few software solutions on the market that has done what it was designed to do without any problems and without errors right from the start. Microsft should take a look here ;-)

Cons

TPgDump component does not provide functionality to backup only some columns/datafields of a table (postgres) and then to only restore these values without restoring all the other existing and possible newer and essential content.

### "Reliable and Versatile Database Connectivity Solution :)"

June 24, 2026

5.0

My overall experience with Universal Data Access Components has been very positive. The product provides a comprehensive and reliable set of tools for database connectivity and data management across different platforms. It helped streamline development by offering a consistent API and strong performance, reducing the complexity of working with multiple database systems. The documentation is helpful, the components are stable, and the regular updates demonstrate a commitment to maintaining quality. Overall, it is a valuable solution that improves productivity and simplifies database application development.

Pros

What I liked most about Universal Data Access Components is its ability to provide seamless connectivity across multiple database platforms through a single, consistent framework. The components are reliable, well-documented, and easy to integrate into existing applications, which significantly reduces development time. I also appreciate the high performance, broad database support, and flexibility it offers for both simple and complex data access scenarios. The regular updates and responsive support team make it a dependable solution for developers looking to build scalable and maintainable database applications.

Cons

What I liked least about Universal Data Access Components is that the initial setup and configuration can take some time, especially for developers who are new to the product or working with multiple database types. Some advanced features may also require a bit of learning before they can be used effectively. That said, once everything is configured properly, the tool works reliably and provides strong long-term value.

### "Unbeatably good components"

March 26, 2025

5.0

The components are easy to deploy, allowing our software to be used with Firebird, Oracle, or MS-SQL without any programming changes. The components have functioned reliably even across multiple versions.

Pros

I've been using the components for many years. They're very stable and performant. New Delphi versions are also supported immediately. Customer service responds quickly and competently to any questions.

Cons

I didn't notice anything that wasn't good.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Universal Data Access Components

The components work with the simple Delphi version and save a lot of money with each release.

### "Great Connectivity....A Lifesaver!"

April 28, 2026

5.0

I purchased UniDac for a personal project I am developing with TMS Web Core and XData. Migrating from FireDac to UniDac was problem free. But, I had a vexxing problem for work where we use Microsoft SQL Server. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not make a version compatible with Windows 11 ARM (let alone Management Studio) and made it difficult for me to perform Delphi dev even in a Parallels VM on my M4 Max MBP. I ended up having to install SQL Server in a Docker container. That could be accessed using FireDac. But, there was no easy way to perform backups or to switch databases. So, I wrote a utility using Delphi 12.3 and UniDac to perform database backups and restore. I am a user of dbForge for Postgres. At some point, I expect to purchase a license for MS SQL. Until then, I use BeeKeeper. But, in the end, UniDac has been a lifesaver for me.

Pros

Its ease of connecting to a variety of databases. I work with Microsoft SQL server by day and Postgres by night. Getting connected to the various instances is a piece of cake. Staying current with the updates - always easy to install.

Cons

Honestly, the cost for a subscription is a bit of hinderence for the individual developer. FireDac is free and comes with Delphi and the recurring cost for UniDac (like Delphi) can be a drag.

### "Life saver ."

June 23, 2026

5.0

It's a lifesaver. As we deal with thousands of connections and queries per minute, UniDAC was a game changer for us. Super easy, the installation and updates are super easy, the customer support is great and the performance and stability is top notch .

Pros

Great stability, performance and ease to use. Doing thousands of connections and dealing with different databases is almost transpent. The best for sure is the stability of it. It's a great prduct.

Cons

Honestly, the subscryption price is a bit harsh. Like Rad Studio's anual subscription is a thing to consider but, as a company the benefits surpass by far the price.

### "UniDAC is feasible upgrade option from older DB components"

October 23, 2025

5.0

We use UniDAC for large business app with MsSQL and Firebird databases. UniDAC is highly advanced database component set for Delphi.

Pros

UniDAC provides native driver for MsSQL - no need for Microsoft OLE DB drivers, wide variety of useful properties and events and good recovery after connection breakdown and reconnect.

Cons

Fetch records management is hard to use with MsSQL. Opening query with unfetched records leads to "New transaction is not allowed because there are other threads running in the session" when another transaction tries to access same records. We programmed own requery management when user needs more records than initial load (similar to MaxRecords in ADO and client side cursor).

### "Reliable Database Connection with UniDAC and Delphi"

September 24, 2025

5.0

We use UniDAC in our company’s EMDI business management software. It has been reliable, fast, and makes it simple to connect with both Firebird and MySQL. I also really like the included dbMonitor tool, which makes it much easier to debug and trace database activity during development.

Pros

Works great with Firebird, which is our main database, and also with MySQL for our web apps. Easy to use and very stable.

Cons

Error handling could be improved. In some cases the feedback is not detailed enough, which makes debugging harder and less efficient.

### "Zeitersparnis und Stabilität top!"

March 27, 2026

5.0

Pros

### "Solid data access components with good support"

April 27, 2022

5.0

Using UniDac makes writing multi-user database applications , across a range of databases, quick and easy without sacrificing performance or usability.

Pros

It is straightforward to use, reliable, and gives me access to every feature I need when writing database connected applications, large and small. It plays nice with the other 3rd party components we use such as DevExpress and Fast report etc, and it well documented.

Cons

Some of the dialogues can be a little clunky but the developer is very responsive.

### "I do not understand, what is this field for."

October 5, 2023

5.0

I't hard for me to admit, that I still do not understand native methods for SQL databases connectivity in Delphi. I'm useing DAC components from very beginning.

Pros

Very easy to install, easy to use, reliable.

Cons

Problem with datetime2 field type in MSSQL, it should have automatic conversion to TDateTime. Problem with setting NULL values in INSERT or UPDATE query with params.

### "Unidac Review"

October 6, 2023

5.0

Pros

Direct Acess to databases. Not needing drivers and concentrating all connection demands on the executable is what makes UNIDAC different for me. As far as I've seen, the native options for Delphi and C++ need drivers or libraries to work correctly

Cons

UNIDAC fully supports me and I would only consider a progressive, more aggressive discount percentage during renewal.

### "Speed, reliability and ease of use."

August 30, 2026

5.0

As mentioned above, when we migrated from Delphi's BDE, I was feeling it was going to be a really long, difficult process, but it was not. We use the Devart UniDac components to connect to SQL Server or Sybase databases, within the one app. Using the components now is just second nature. I would never change.

Pros

The ease of use, speed and reliability of the components. We migrated from Delphi's BDE several years ago and the whole process was very straightforward. It is so much better and so easy to use. The reliability and speed have been excellent and the frequent updates to add new features or to fix small bugs is very much appreciated. They stay on top of user feedback and of new Delphi versions. The whole logic of the components is vastly superior to the old BDE offering which was clumsy and had so much bloat. The last Pro is there is nothing to worry about when distributing an application. There are no dlls or configuring required when installing an app.

Cons

The only Con is I would wish they could keep the price down a bit. I know there is a lot of work maintaining the product, but with International currency exchanges from the US Dollar to AUD, the final check out price is significantly higher. Perhaps some loyalty discount to long term customers.

We are a small company and we mainly work with Firebird and MSSQL databases. We recently started using PostgreSQL and the conversion was surprisingly easy with UniDac.

Pros

\- easy install and use - excellent performance (Firebird, MSSQL) - easy to learn, simple development

Cons

\- nothing - Updates arrive relatively often, and we always wonder if they are necessary. We usually wait for less busy days and install them then, so far we have not had any compatibility issues.

We've been using it for more than 10 years. Awesome product, and will probably keep on using it for the foreseeable future.

Pros

Ease of use and the myriad of databases to connect to instantly. Easy to install and almost no learning curve coming from a Delphi background using their components.

Cons

Nothing. Everything is just fantastic! Like I said, if you are a Delphi programmer coming from the Borland BDE days and working with the standard database components, you'll find these extremely easy to integrate with.
