Pros Direct access without the need for OCI and SSH tunnel connection Cons t's not entirely compatible with FireDAC, requiring adaptation and even preventing any migration of existing Delphi software already created using FireDAC. Apparently, it does not provide a means to connect to Oracle Autonomous Database (security/tls) in the form of direct access. Reasons for choosing Oracle Data Access Components I chose ODAC because it seems to be more robust and eliminates OCI and the tunnel, which are not available in FireDAC, for small applications, due to ODAC's incompatibility with FireDAC. Pros Connection without client libraries for prototyping purposes. Help included. Cons Honestly, no idea. The components work well. Reasons for choosing Oracle Data Access Components Since the main focus is still prototyping Delphi is still preferred but not a must. Compared to other Oracle data access component packages or libraries ODAC is very complete. But depending on the Delphi version installed I still use Allround Automations DOA as a gotten to love relic from the past originally introduced to figure out connection issues with PL/SQL Developer and kept for very much the same reason with SQL Detective and in both cases to investigate loading masses of data into a TDataset descendent plus grids & co. Rewriting existing tools is rather useless but making them work and offering a well educated guess concerning the reason or finding the real cause in advance helped these days, because most tools didn't provide precise environment reports (long long time ago). ODAC is ok and SmartyQuery and such things I still love to a certain degree and the dialog boxes for queries on datasets is good and last but not least the DataSet Manager. In my area Delphi was never an option for developments in industries or similar scenarios and Oracle Java connectors or the .net Connector was required. More relaxed scenarios didn't exist or were already covered by so called standard software.
