The ASA is a reliable security application. The implementation is easy. But it is expensive, compared with other network security devices.

Pros

We use the Cisco ASA Software on the ASA suite, which provides the firewall, VPN and IPS security functions for our organization.

Cons

The cost of license is high. The variety of ACL-command formats on various versions of ASA sometime confuse the configuration. The integration of ASA and other network devices (e.g. Fortinet) needs much time for the investigation.

Alternatives considered

[Prisma SASE](https://www.capterra.com/p/10018206/Prisma-SASE/)

Reasons for choosing Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software

We have used ASA for over 20 years and it is hard to replace them

It's a love hate relationship. I love that it can do most things you can imagine if you can discover how to configure it that way. But if your a smaller office and don't need so many bells and whistles then I would definitely go with Meraki.

Pros

It can do a lot of things that younger siblings like Meraki products can not. Unfortunately you don't get a relatively easy interface to work with. The old pros will say use CLI, but newbies will most likely need the ASDM. There are a ton of advanced things you can do with the ASA.

Cons

Price and ease of use are my 2 least favorite things. There really should be an decent gui by now. The Firepower security module is still a hot mess. Support has slowly been becoming slower and less helpful over the years as well.

Alternatives considered

[Cisco Meraki](https://www.capterra.com/p/176649/Meraki-Systems-Manager/)

Reasons for choosing Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software

Needed the advanced features that Meraki lacks. As soon as you need to connect your Meraki MX to another that you don't own or another non Meraki device you will understand.

Large companies spend a good part of investment in huge data centers where information will be stored or transferred to the cloud, in addition to that budget there is another item also important for the security of such equipment and the information contained, Cisco ASA is part of the protection against cyber threats ensuring information security, In the IT environment the threats can be of different types and these are evolving over time, Cisco ASA also evolves parallel to the new technology and with the support of Cisco and all the wanderings in the area you can rest without the worries of our network and the external affectations that it can have.

Pros

The Cisco ASA family has taken responsibility for the security of many of our equipment present in the IT infrastructure both physical and virtual in our data centers distributed throughout the city, in its nature of protection performs monitoring packets, a comprehensive access control where validates IP source and destination as well as the ports involved in this exchange of frames, also noteworthy compatibility with VPN allowing access to our corporate resources from external networks with total security that the data is encrypted and protected from surrounding threats.

Cons

With its use as a network firewall Cisco ASA has allowed to evacuate intrusion attempts daily, all abnormal traffic is immediately discarded thus preventing access to our corporate network; at the level of protection against malware, suspicious ICMP traffic the firewall works flawlessly; that is to say, it is required at console level to make the due authorizations to allow the access of external traffic so that our devices have outgoing and incoming connection if it is required, this can be adding to the tables of routing ranges of ip of origin and associated interface and vice versa for the outgoing traffic, all the previous thing is summarized in that if it is required a personnel with ample vagaje in the referring thing to cybersecurity to configure and to put in march correctly the different firewall based on Cisco ASA OS.
