Whenever I have experienced technical difficulties, which is not often, their customer support is quick and efficient in solving the problem. What I love most is that they are always looking for ways to improve their product and are open to suggestions. Pros I absolutely love using BrainingCamp for modeling lessons, student interaction, and monitoring student work “live”. BrainingCamp is so user friendly and they are constantly making improvements to their product. They also provide free PD sessions from some of the top math coaches/specialists in the country that can be accessed at any time on their website. Cons I honestly can’t think of any cons. Math Coach E-Learning Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Brainingcamp Review - In Classroom setting Grades 1-6" May 30, 2022 5.0 \- useful for periods where online learning is necessary Pros \- The variety of math tools available to model mathematics thinking - The ready made tasks available in several strands of math (keep them coming!) - The ability to design tasks and save the share code - The live feature and the ability to download student work in a pdf format - In the live setting the students cannot interfere other students' work - the ability to lock screens when students are off task or when students need further instruction Cons \- What I would really love more than anything is the ability to paste a screen clipping or clip art onto the Brainingcamp board when making my own workspaces. Too often I am toggling back and forth sharing two screens with the question showing and the brainingcamp workspace showing on a seperate screen. In the live mode I would like the ability to showcase one student's work by making it full screen - I would like the excess tools or tools which you would like to delete to go back into the menu instead of going under the menu and remaining in the count (particularly important for base ten activities) - I wish the number line could contain a much greater range - Sometimes when students leave the live session their work removes with them. Pros It allows for UDL connection to students engagement and empowerment in their learning. The teacher-to-student feedback is immediate and thus correction and or affirmations can be given whole class or selected students. Brainingcamp manipulatives open the mind for exploration solving problems in their way. Making sense in their way. The students' way. Cons I would like to see page creations like in slides so that I could develop an integrated lesson with specific manipulatives that also allow for individuality in that student's learning. Teachers understood how to use it quickly. When I had a question, the team was very responsive and helpful. Pros Brainingcamp is an amazing tool. There are so many types of manipulatives. I love that you can create share codes and the "Go live" feature lets teachers see student work in real time and comment on their work. There are so many additional tools like number lines, number paths, ten frames, and number bonds that integrate with every manipulative. Text and drawing tools allow students to show their work and share codes and the copy feature allow them to capture their thinking to share with teachers. Pros Students at my school, even kindergartners, have no difficulty learning to use Brainingcamp. Using the virtual manipulatives allows them to make sense of problems and creatively express their thinking. We have created many beautiful bulletin boards showcasing this work by saving and printing what they made. BrainingCamp is an excellent tool that works well with our core math curriculum. Of course, real hands-on manipulatives are very important, but Brainingcamp offers unlimited supplies of manips and also an easy way to capture their work that can be referred back to later. Cons None that I can think of - I like that they are constantly adding new features! Pros The virtual manipulatives are easy to use and integrate into a worksheet. I especially like to do the double open number line as other resources don't allow this. The Rekenrek is aligned properly (5 rows of red-white beads followed by 5 rows of white-red beads on a white background) and easy to copy into my worksheets. Other resources do 10 rows of red-white which doesn't easily show the quantity of 50. The icons are explicit and simple. Cons Number line range is not always what I need (spaces, numbers). It's clever, beautifully designed, easy to navigate, and centered to meet the needs of teachers and students. Pros Brainingcamp is an outstanding tool that I use to enhance the portion of my lessons where I model math skills. The students are able to see how I work through problems before they attempt to do it themselves. My favorite manipulatives I use with my 2nd graders are the base 10 blocks. Brainingcamp has an amazing feature that breaks up tens, hundreds, and thousands into smaller parts, and is able to regroup them just as quickly. This is an exceptional feature for my visual learners. Cons I have to save up enough money to purchase a license, however their licenses are very reasonably priced, especially for the quality of manipulatives and the hard work that was placed into creating such a fantastic site.
