Director Writing and Editing Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Very irritating" February 9, 2020 2.0 Having used this software for over 15 years I have finally given up on it and changed to an online free service that is not only good, but doesn't use up massive amounts of computer resources, and interfere with other running processes running on the computer and gives a surprisingly accurate output albeit not as sophisticated as Dragon. Pros Its basically a very good program but recent upgraqdes have become increasingly buggy, and have incompatibility problems with windows 10 that causes crashes and freezes and random changes in font size and configurations. Cons The company takes no notice of customer complaints about the program, and have made no attempt to correct them or issue upgrades to overcome them. Trying to anyone to help in managing these problems is almost impossible. Reason for choosing Dragon Professional Individual I am a long term user of the product but I've dumped it as the recent edition is so buggy that it wastes too much of my time. Review Source José N. Pros The fact that you can teach it words like names of products, entities and cities in other languages. Cons I think that, as compared to the competition, it's all good. It's nice to not only dictate but to give my wrists a break from time to time. I'm on the computer for work at least 10 hours a day. Cons Even when it claims you've trained the software, it can still make a lot of mistakes. It takes quite a bit of time to get it trained to your voice. Things like Google Docs can understand you just as easily, if not better, without voice training. But, you can't run the entire computer from Google Docs - so there is a definite pro to Naturally Speaking. Review Source Evan H. Pros I work ok, before the discounted it, and it no longer works at all, Cons I purchased Dragon Speak Naturally for Mac, they discontinued the product, and it no longer works with the current version of Mac IOS. Their only solution was to go back and downgrade IOS. I requested a copy of the Microsoft version of Dragon Speak Naturally, as the product they sold me no longer works. They said no. They certainly would allow me to buy it at full price, I believe that's unacceptable. Pros I'm a pretty fast typist, but when you're seeing a patient, your eyes should be on the patient, rather than on the computer. That being said, this software helps translate my speech into words pretty well, and is more cost-effective than hiring a scribe. It supports multiple languages, and the software is smart - it learns as it goes and gets better with each iteration. Cons If you want answers, it's difficult to get answers. Forget about searching for them. Customer support can be better. We use this product mostly for our customer service staff. To be able to use the same microphone to answer a call, then to write an email response or a chat response saves them so much time. It doesn't matter how quick the speech, Dragon is able to keep up and make very minimal errors in the dictation. Cons There is occasional lag, but nothing too bad. This might be be due to how the program is written, it seems to take a up a lot of memory on the computer while it is running. \\ Review Source Douglas C. June 10, 2020 5.0 I originally bought Dragon Speech Software for my Dad as he was aging and had growing difficulty sitting at his computer and typing accurately. For him it actually proved more of a nuisance since the program had to learn his voice and much of his vocabulary before it could be of any real use to him. I did find more use for it myself, but still had to get through that original adjustment period. Pros This software is great for people who have difficulty typing and/or for anyone who wants to transcribe a large physical document into digital form and does not have use of a scanner. Cons The learning curve of the program can be a bit difficult to overcome in the early stages as the program learns the user's voice, intonations, and inflections. Pros Dragon Naturally Speaking is a great concept and saves me a lot of time when writing long emails. It is much quicker than typing. Cons You have to proof read the writing thoroughly, otherwise you may have completely random words thrown in. Also, when used for gmail on a browser there can be quite a bit of lag. Dragon let me to regain that part of me that I lost, allow me to voice type (and format by voice), and so I've been able to continue doing my same job. Pros It's pretty straightforward to use, offers good tutorials if you need it, and learns from your voice and your speech patterns. I mostly use it for dictation and voice typing. Cons Controlling the mouse by voice is difficult, and especially difficult on two monitors (which is my set up at work). Some applications don't allow direct dictation, or you can't correct things once you dictated them, which is annoying but possible to work around. Attorney Legal Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "speak into the mic- it will take it down" September 24, 2020 4.0 It is a great time saver when you need to get some letters out and a great way to open word and get to formatting the template. it is a positive review and the price, when bought on sale is worth it. I used it to type this review. Pros I enjoy using the softward for letters, correspondence, lists and motions. it works fairly well. it has a hard time learning some words but with time it will get about 90% of what you say. it is faster than hand writing and has some great custom features. I have actually used the product for over 10 years maybe longer. So I am a valid credible user and understand the product. Overall it is the best. While I haven't tried other dictaion programs, friends have all said when they switched to the Dragon products it was a big improvement. Cons At times it can be tempermental to the microphone and the attempts to learn your language by reviewing your emails and prior correspondence is difficult to use and difficult to get it to recognize the folders it can reveiw. I benefited by making progress with a student and he benefited because it made him focus on producing clear speech. Pros I used this software with a student that needed encouragement to speak clearly. He was a special needs student and being able to speak and see his spoken words was very motivating to him. Also, if he didn't use his best articulation skills, his words would not appear correctly on the screen. It was a fun challenge to him to say his words clearly so they would appear correctly. This may not be the intended purpose for the software, but it was a great program to use for Speech Therapy. Cons As with any affordable voice to text recognition software, there are times when you speak fairly clearly but it still displays an incorrect word. For the most part the software understands what I say but having to fix the text after you are done talking can be frustrating. Actually, I am dictating blogs. It is so much faster and produces better results. When dictating, I can put more emphasis on sentences. Because when typing, my mind is occupied by pressing keyboard. I can dictate so much faster and better than I can write. Pros I am writing blogs. I am using a lot of AI tools like Jarvis and Frase. Time is limiting factor. One way to speed up writing is by actualy dictating instead of writing. I am using Dragon, because it integrates with browser, because it allows corrections and macro's and because it really works. Cons Support. There is no email/chat support. Software is expensive and precise. I have purchased expensive Bluetooth headphones - only to have constant problems with Dragon. This is very valuable for social scientists doing a lot of interviews. Instead of spending time, which is usually a very long time, to transcribe the data, it is easier to use the application to type the data for you. It has good voice recognition quality so your data will likely maintain its form, around 80-90% accuracy. Cons It requires a lot of memory. It would run fine and smooth at first but the longer you work with it, the more memory it will consume until it crashes. As noted above, I actually looked this better when I used EPIC and found it more user friendly and efficient. Still use it now, but mostly for A/P. Pros Once set up for the user, is easy to use and definitely helps facilitate charting/notes to be done quickly. Have seen other providers used this in the patient room though I prefer the use it once the visit is complete. Works well with accents and learns how you speak over time. Gets better the more you use it. Pros Been using Dragon software since the 90s and every version gets better. Not only does a great job when dictation, but works well at controlling computer Cons The number of license options and versions over the years have become confusing and I wish this was simplified. July 16, 2019 5.0 Pros As someone who crafts as a job, my hands are often busy, or covered in glue or paint or stain. I often have emails to write, or reply to for customers asking questions about sizes, and colors and the like. Its not always easy to stay on top of emails!! Dragon has saved me!! I don't have to put down my pliers, or my paint brushes, or whatever is in my hands to answer a customer question! I have a New England accent, which my phone hates, but Dragon gets just about every word I say! Very rarely does it make a mistake, and I am super grateful for that. Great product, highly recommend. You dictate, the job is done, just little checks of connections here and there. Pros it's really an indispensable tool. How quickly I gained by simply dictating what needed to be typed. Translating takes time already, but typing takes time too. It's a big help to have to use this software. Cons it's true it's an expensive purchase. Pros The reputation of the company is what sold our practice in using Dragon speech recognition. WE actually use one of the more expensive versions which is Dragon Naturally speaking with the medical dictionary plugin. It works even if you got an accent (like I do)" May 14, 2018 4.0 Pros Once you spend some time training the algorithm, you start getting a pretty accurate recognition of the dictated sentences. The Mac and the Windows version work both comparably well. Cons Their customer service basically is terrible, to give them a compliment. Expect few crashes here and there, so save often or you'll lose your work. I have a feeling that my smartphone does a comparable job if not better in terms of voice recognition.
