### "Dragon Speech Recognition , fail"

December 4, 2019

3.0

Tried it. Never really found it to be other than a pain in the apple. I am thinking it COULD be beneficial for someone that writes EVERY DAY and ONLY does that. But for us mortals, I think this tech is, not up to par.

Pros

I like the IDEA that it COULD be faster to talk into the mic like if I was to write a book, that is why I got it.

Cons

The thing here is that every sentence needs to be addressed, like, "end sentence". And "Capital L". "Underscore". You have to talk more to the software than I like and I am not fond of it.

### "would love it to work well"

April 25, 2019

3.0

Pros

when it works, it is pretty good - while it never makes a typo, it often puts in nonsensical words

Cons

I have been trying to use it for years and keep on buying upgrades in the hope that it will function well. I upgraded my PC largely to allow Dragon to run efficiently (32 gigs of RAM, high end processor, high end graphics)- alas to no avail. Even after an update that supposedly corrected bad behavior with Word (Office 365), it still crashes Word and sometimes my computer. It gives me odd errors, like a plug-in is not enabled, but Word tells me it is. Outlook tries to disable the plug-in. And don't ever let customer support into your computer - I did once and all they tried to do was use notepad to try and sell me a new version at a price much higher than was available on-line (I upgraded on my own)

### "It works - Sadly"

June 26, 2019

5.0

I almost wish it didn't work so well because then my boss would go back to his two-finger typing and I wouldn't be hearing his every email. This also works well with Grammarly, which he also uses.

Pros

For slow typers this helps with pretty much everything. Those emails taking forever? No longer with Dragon Speech!

Cons

Small office + loud speaking boss + dragon speech = every email every composed is heard throughout the entire office

### "our hospital had Dragon Medical 12. It was fast and virtually 100% accurate. Now, Dragon 1 is awful."

June 16, 2018

2.0

almost none. Making my job much more difficult

Pros

The old software was awesome. We had some issues that were resolved by adding RAM to the computer. Then, it was great. Almost 100% and pretty much instant responsiveness. Now, we have been "upgraded" to the cloud based "Dragon 1" or "DMO," not sure what it is called. It is awful.

Cons

Now, we have been "upgraded" to the cloud based "Dragon 1" or "DMO," not sure what it is called. It is awful. It is slow to respond, I'm missing the beginning of sentences, it is only perhaps 85-90% accurate (which sounds pretty good until you realize you have to go back and correct every 10th word), and the cursor jumps for no good reason to another part of the sentence and before you realize it, since there is a lag in typing, you have typed a bunch in the middle of a previous sentence. It is almost unusable. Ironically, I am hand typing this, because now I can't get it to pair with my Nuance Power Mic II. It was virtually perfect before, but now is almost unusable. I asked why we can't go back to the old one, and I am told, in typical IT speak, that we just can't. I will probably go back to dictating by phone. I've recommended that if Dragon 12 no longer exists and this is the new product, that the hospital go to M-modal. It is the way Dragon 12 was. This is awful.

### "Useful when you have space for yourself and type a lot. "

September 5, 2019

4.0

If you are willing to learn, train the software and not afraid to sound funny (robotic with constant commands), then after a few sessions this thing will take off saving around 40%-60% of your time. It can even control other software on your computer, so your workflow can really take off.

Pros

It is really accurate tool. Understands even foreign pronunciation. It can learn from documents that you wrote, so it understands you better. When dragon is trained, it is super tool to have.

Cons

If you are not too tech savvy, it can be a real headache to learn to use it without help. If you don't learn how to dictate properly it creates a lot of work to amend your dictation.

### "Ease of use, seamless functionality and integration."

October 28, 2019

4.0

Pros

I find that the speed recognition is very accurate even as I speak in regular conversational cadence. Using this app improves my workflow because it allows me to complete my charts quickly.

Cons

I would like a way to be more familiar with the voice commands I need to use to grammar edits as I am dictating. I feel that there should be an easy way to get to a menu for quick review and options.

### "Don't buy this software!"

March 10, 2022

4.0

Pros

I liked using it but after only 1 year I was expected to pay 3 times the price I originally paid for an "upgrade". I could no longer use it because it was incompatible with the new version of Windows.

Cons

It is incredible that Nuance wants to charge me $250 for an upgrade to program that I paid $99 for in 2020! It is not the best out there and they have demonstrated that they will not support customers with necessary upgrades to continue to use the product. As other customers have reported it borders on fraud. I am going to go download Windows Voice Recognition which is a better program for general use and is free.

### "Dragon Speech Recognition"

January 10, 2020

4.0

A decent tool for those who are not fast goers and are very limited on time for transcription.

Pros

Ability to speak my transcription notes as a provider into the electronic medical record system at my clinic.

Cons

Inability of the software to decipher complex words. Notes are choppy and have to be edited by hand. If you are a fast typer it would be easier to do that.

### "Great for dictating reports and notes!"

March 6, 2021

5.0

Dragon speech has helped me for quite some time to efficiently and effectively dictate my notes and reports. I find it more efficient than typing because I can focus on the content rather than typing.

Pros

I love that Dragon Speech Recognition is easy to use and makes writing notes and reports very convenient and efficient.

Cons

Sometimes the software has difficulty picking up on nuances in my dictation, such as small words like "in" versus "on."

### "Works great in most programs. Doesn't work in Electronic Medical Record unless you pay for Medical."

May 15, 2018

4.0

Speeds up my charting. Easy to use.

Pros

Professional version is easy to use. Minimal teaching needed. Still misspells some words, not sure why. Works in word and libreoffice but not in EMR software that is web-based. Can still cut and paste into it but it's an extra step.

Cons

Works in word and libreoffice but not in EMR software that is web-based. Can still cut and paste into it but it's an extra step.

### "Huge time saver!"

January 30, 2019

5.0

I am a freelance writer. I type out up to 10,000 words a day. I have tried lots of talk to text programs but this one works better than any other I tried. It is a huge game changer for my writing career.

Pros

It is very accurate. I don't have to do much correction to the words it picks up from me. I didn't have to "train" it like other programs. It saves me so much time and I don't have sore wrist, hands, and fingers like I used to. The shorthand text is a great tool and helps speed up the process. It is very user friendly.

Cons

The customer service was not very helpful when I ran into an issue. You will use a lot of space on your computer for the program. Lots of upgrade add ons that I wish were included.

### "This is the Best"

September 27, 2019

5.0

Although it isn't perfect, it's the best option out there from what I hear, and I'll continue to use it while hoping improvements continue to be made to the software.

Pros

I like that I can use it to write my novels without exacerbating my carpal tunnel syndrome--it's extremely easy once it's all set up and I've written entire novels with it.

Cons

I'm not crazy about its ability to recognize certain words. Swear words are impossible. If it mixes up a homonym, it can be hard to fix if it's something like to/too/two and there are many in the document already. Basically, it isn't perfect.

### "Too complex and unreliable"

May 5, 2017

2.0

Pros

It has every feature imaginable but that actually makes it too complex for the average user and you get too many choices most of which you don't use

Cons

It crashes ALL the time. As a teacher (who is dyslexic) i purchased a site licence for my school. It is almost impossible for the kids to use as they have to READ a pre prepared article into the microphone to train it. It made the kids even more frustrated! How is it that this technology has not really evolved. Having used Dragon myself for many years I agree with others it has gone backwards and the crashes have increased.

### "Good Tool"

September 18, 2019

5.0

Great! It makes life so much easier. I just wish that they had a subscription version compared to buying the new one every year.

Pros

Allows us to complete work faster. Makes taking notes, logging calls, and sending emails faster. Overall a great boost to efficiency.

Cons

It takes up a lot of space on your hard drive. At one point, the system learns how you talk to improve dictation and it took up 80 GB on my computer.

### "Top of the line dictation software"

January 13, 2019

4.0

I haven't found anything to top DNS for what it does. I wish the company behind it was more interested in product support than pushing out paid upgrades that aren't ready yet.

Pros

It's the best on the market. If you put the time into it, you can get excellent results. It can be lifesaver for your hands and wrists if you type a lot.

Cons

It's clunky and is prone to glitches and issues. When it's working it's great. When it's not, it can be a pain. Instead of fixing issues and issuing a patches, the company is more concerned with frequent paid upgrades without fixing the problems in the version you already paid for.

### "Dragon Speech Recognition Great for Transcribing"

December 15, 2019

4.0

While working in a financial office, I had a manager who frequently recorded notes that would have been time consuming to transcribe physically. After installing Dragon Speech Recognition, the job became much more tolerable and simple.

Pros

This software was perfect for transcribing notes by a manager who insisted on dictating notes the old-fashioned way.

Cons

Occasionally mis-transcription of words, which is probably to be expected.

### "Barely used it"

November 26, 2018

4.0

Pros

I was really excited to buy this product because I was hoping it would take the strain of my back from typing articles and books for long periods of time.

Cons

I could not for the life of me get this thing set up and working properly. Plus changing my writing style from pen or keyboard to dictating was not as easy as it sounds/looks.

### "Setup is easy but training can be a bit challenging at first."

July 2, 2018

4.0

Pros

Setting it up to use with my (Yeti) microphone was surprisingly easy. I use Dragon Naturally Speaking to speed up the writing of online articles and ebooks, and once I got the hang of it, it has saved me both time and typing. Best of all, you can also use it in Evernote.

Cons

At first, training the software (and yourself, by learning all the voice commands so you can use it effectively) can be a bit tedious. However, it is greatly worth the effort in the not-so-long-run.

### "Great for Medical Transcription"

January 24, 2019

5.0

Instead of spending 45 minutes per dictation, we spend 5. The software paid for itself in the first day. Without a doubt the best investment in software we have ever made!

Pros

This software saves our transcriptionists hundreds of hours and keeps them happy! We use Philips Speechexecutive software for our dictaphones, and then cue up the dictation, and it will run through 15-20 files in less than an hour, giving us 4-5 minute recordings into Word documents with ease. We re-listen through the files, correct as necessary, and at the end of the day, re-train the Dragon software to be even better through our changes. It was easy to setup and easy to implement/train on.

Cons

It is resource-intensive. We did not have a dual-core processor on the first computer, and it gave us errors about that, but kept churning out the transcriptions without a problem. Other than that, it's really a no-brainer!

### "Tired of typing?"

June 11, 2020

4.0

Overall Dragon is a nice product that can save you time. I don't know very many people that can type fast than they can talk.

Pros

Dragon is great and will type for you. The more you use it the better it works. It has other functionality besides just typing text for you.

Cons

Sometimes words that are spoken to not type correctly within the application I am using like word or outlook.

### "A very nice way to quickly get "your thoughts" down while multi-tasking at your desk."

January 9, 2018

4.0

Pros

I like that transcripts can be made out of my podcasts. It isn't 100% perfect but I'd say 90+% which helps me a lot.

Cons

Not necessarily a con just a heads up: You need to take the time at the beginning for the program to learn your voice and speech pattern. It will take hours, but well spent in the end.

### "Dragon Speak Naturally is not so easy"

September 14, 2019

3.0

The Dragon Speech Recognition was initially purchased for solving our meeting minutes issues. We planned to use it for transcribing our meetings with clients which proved impossible. Then for junior staff to read out reports instead of typing, and drafting documents easily. But the hassles of setting up, audio equipment and quiet environment search made it tedious to use.

Pros

The software comes with a network ability that can be installed to all computers. It recognises thick accents and all other forms of speaking that is uttered by people because each person submits a voice and speech pattern sample before hand.

Cons

Though the Quality of Speech Recognition is impressive, the setup process is tedious. The voice recognition script takes way too long to read and each individual must submit a sample separately which might be hard to do for all Management level personnel. It does also require a clear environment to recognize the speech in full, which works badly in cubicles.

### "Expensive Voice Accommodation "

August 26, 2019

5.0

We've only needed to contact support once, and it wasn't a great experience. Their installer wasn't current, and they needed to send us a custom one. But after that, it's worked reliably.

Pros

Dragon affords us two options. 1) Our less computer-savvy providers are able to record their notes for transcriptionists who can then return them to the files. 2) Dragon is compatible with our EMR. Its voice-recognition allows for the live dictation into integrated areas of templates, with few to no errors.

Cons

Dragon is costly, and we have found that only about a quarter of providers who express initial interest actually go through with purchasing.

### "It will learn about your speech patterns"

March 13, 2018

5.0

Pros

This helps all of us that have large thumbs. It is more accurate that hitting the keys on a small digital keyboard.

Cons

It does take alittle bit to learn what words are commonly used on a regular basis. With that you need to go back over your sentences and read what was typed.
