I think each new releases of the product has almost gone backwards rather than forward. I find it very tedious to use on my Apple Mac and have now moved to a web-based service which is far superior (and free). Also, the new version of the product is almost double the price of the current version of the product and simply not worth it based on the reviews that I've read. Review Source William B. But there may be a point in my life when it's faster to use Dragon. When that day comes, I hope they have continued to refine the interface so that correcting errors is faster and more intuitive. Pros Dragon Naturally Speaking is the go-to voice-to-text application because it works. You can configure it to your voice and train it to better understand you. It is also great for people with arthritis and fine motor control. Pros For individuals with no upper extremity function Dragon is a great way to increase independence. Dragon allows an individual control of every aspect of their computer with one piece of equipment. Cons One of the downfalls is that dragon commands are very specific. Dragon was able to understand my Trinidadian accent (even before learning from specific documents) with no issues producing great recognition accuracy. Pros I liked that dragon's interface is easy to use and allows me to enter text quicker as opposed to typing. Cons I disliked that one has to manually switch between inputs via the Manage Dictation Sources from the Profile Menu. Pros I haven't seen Dragon struggle with any accent or types of speech. Mumbles, fast talkers, it's all there. And the way Dragon constantly learns and improves is a service in itself. Finally, Dragon features a vocab training tool. If there's a particular word, or even an entire sentence, that you say frequently that Dragon just doesn't know, you can add in that word/phrase, take 10 seconds to train Dragon, and Dragon will consistently pick it up flawlessly. Cons The only real issue I've seen is that Dragon features a fairly limited set of accents to train to. That hasn't caused an issue yet, but I could see it being problematic in the future if a user has a thick accent that Dragon doesn't yet know. Review Source Marco C. It kinda worked, although the effort to tweak the system, train new words, etc. might be considerable at the beginning. Pros The recognition accuracy is very high, even though much better for English compared to other languages. Cons Recognition for Italian language could be better. Pros It's probably the most reliable speech recognition software that I have tried and its powerful enough to allow me to relax my hands from typing or writing for long stretches of time. Pros I compared with Microsoft Speech Recognition, the accuracy was much better. I don't like a headset so I got a "Blue Yeti" microphone and the combo works very well for me. And the ability to insert a whole paragraph with just speaking a macro is invaluable! And even personal names and technical words are already in its dictionary! Cons Not much to say here. It makes it easy to produce documents, etc. by transcribing your speech (if you don't have a non-North American accent) Cons If you don't have a North American accent you will likely find Dragon useless. No matter how much I "trained" it, it did not recognize my speech. March 25, 2019 5.0 Great program for everyone except songwriters and people who use common vernacular and slang terms. Pros It is extremely user friendly and someone can get started using it well within 15 minutes. It is very good at hearing and will not miss what you say, even if you talk to it for minutes without pausing. The words load to the screen relatively quickly so you can see what you are saying converted to text on the screen within a couple seconds. Very smart, very powerful program. Extremely useful to many folks. Gold standard in the field of voice recognition software. Cons This program is absolutely horrible for singers and songwriters. I wanted to use this primarily for my music creation but it is not a viable option! if you are a singer or songwriter who uses vernacular or slang it will not pick it up and will skew your sentences and words off track immensely. Virtually unusable for songwriters. You must speak very proper and with proper grammar. it cannot distinguish slang and it also takes a long time to edit in words into the program. May 26, 2015 4.0 Having a rare for of arthritis I shelled out my money for DNS hoping to use it for just about everything on my Mac. I had the software for about 6 months when Apple released a new version of OS X. Dragon, naturally would not work with the new OS. Expecting to be able to upgrade or even get a maintenance release for my less than one year old software. Going to the website I could not find mention of the OS X package at all. I wound up having to call sales in order to find out what my options were and where to find the support section of the site that was completely segregated from the many "PC" purchase options support. It looked like it was added as an afterthought to the site and questions submitted seemed to go straight to the bit bucket. Calling after getting nowhere with my support questions I called in again and was allowed a fix which consisted of the new version. Just as that version was becoming usable it was time for another OS X release. This time I was told that I could purchase the new release for full price! That was all that I could stand and the end of my use of their product. Having to pay full price for a new release every year was impossible for me especially when Apple included dictation and control capability for free. There were some selection tools I missed but they were not worth the price and terrible support. But with so many bugs, it is now worthless and does not do the job. Nuance needs to wake up. Cons It's not 100% accurate, but I think that's because I need a better microphone. We have been able to free up assistant's time for other projects by using this program. Pros This program has easy set up and easy use. Dragon saves time and money from dictating and transcribing. Cons At times, the program seems to have somewhat of a lag in the commands portion of the speech recognition. It is intermittent and infrequent.
