Student Computer Software Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Good antivirus software" April 18, 2021 4.0 Malwarebytes has been keeping my PC safe for a year now and by far most convenient feeling. I used it from the time once my PC was severely infected from a Trojan and it eliminated all the virus which some other antivirus softwares did not detect at all. Pros It provides the most basic job of an antivirus software in very simple form. It is very easy to navigate for even the beginners to this antivirus software. It is also very popular among the PC enthusiast for being free. The free version keeps the PC all good if PC is used safely. The premium version is a very well build software with tons of safety features. No ads is one of the best pros of the software which sets malwarebytes apart from other AVs. Cons The free version should at least have a auto feature. Otherwise the user must manually perform scans for files in the PC. They were very prompt to respond to questions and concerns from any one on my team! No one felt like they were getting less support because they were just a low level agent. They provided great support for keeping the product licences updated and troubleshooting issues when they arose. Overall a very good impression. Cons I found making customized scanning process's was a little more time consuming then I would have liked, but this was mostly due to our requirement for low bandwidth overhead which had us using command-line options. Once done I tend to uninstall to keep systems from being open for any backdoor malware to be installed. Pros I always use Malware bytes to remove any malware that my systems get infected with. It is a deep targeting software that is capable of removing all traces of the malware without rendering systems inoperable. Cons The longer this software sits on a system, the more likely this software gets flagged as malware itself by other antivirus programs. I have seen a few times where this software ended up downloading malware itself that it never flagged. I've been very happy with it's minimal level of intrusion into my daily life and it's ability to keep my computer clean and running smoothly. Pros After two years I have not noticed slowdowns due to Malwarebytes, it keeps itself up-to-date seamlessly and it is very easy to use. Cons While it does a good job protecting you, those more CPU intensive and intrusive kinds of antivirus applications will likely do a better job at keeping your computer clean. They really do a great job catching malware, viruses, trojans, and more. Cons I am not the biggest fan of yearly subscriptions and would rather purchase the software outright. Pros Malwarebytes is extremely powerful and safe. I use this software for the last 5+ years and I always install this tool in every machine that I have to use. It's simple, any user can handle it. Pros I have had absolutely no problems with malware since I invested in Malwarbytes. It was easy to purchase for two years and when the time came due, they sent an email with an opportunity to continue. I do use this along with a virus protection company. It is my understanding that I need both. Cons It would be nice to pay for one program that covered everything. Protects our network quietly in the background and updates regularly to block new threats as fast as the evil people out there can create them. Highly recommend. Pros We had an ongoing problem with an individual that was constantly getting infected with malware. I tried Malwarebytes free version first then upgraded to the multi-computer business package when Malwarebytes proved to stop threats to our network dead in their tracks. Pros Malwarebytes is an excellent program, it finds ad-ware, spy-ware, trojan horses and other bad programs on my computer that an anti-virus may not find. I believe it is so important to have Malwarebytes working along with my anti-virus to truly protect my computer. I would never be without it. I use the free version which works great, a friend uses the paid version and it's great to use for the person who is less 'techie' or has a hard time remembering to run the program manually. Cons The only drawback to the free version of Malwarebytes is my own problem of remembering to run it on a regular basis. With the paid version, which runs itself, that would not be a problem. Pros It is easy to set up and easy to run. I appreciate the concept that this little piece of software has protected me many many times. It will have its typical pop ups and tell you this is 'not a good site' and could be dangerous to the user to the option having it run a vicious attachment check on your computer. Cons I would say it is the nagware . . most of these companies like to upgrade you to the enhanced version. I don't mind but if I want to buy the upgrade . . I can find it. It is part of my tech tool bag when I go off to battle monsters in someone's PC. Very valuable tool, the premium tool offers great protection once purchased and installed. Pros As a PC tech, my USB key fob has ALWAYS had Malwarebytes as one of the MAIN items I use to assist me in gaining control of a PC again. It is one of the first pieces of software I install to scan and see for malware. Very simple install and very easy scan tool. Cons I do not like how the software constantly pops up with reminders. That is my ONLY complaint of the tool. I've probably used this on over 300 machines that had signs of a virus or spyware/adware and this program almost always can eliminate most if not all of the threats on its own. The heuristic analysis is a nice added feature too. Cons They don't have a free protection version beyond the premium trial; the free version is a remediation tool only. In order to get things like ransomware protection or safe web browsing, you have to sign up for the yearly subscription (which is honestly very reasonable). June 17, 2020 5.0 Pros I signed up for this software initially because my Chrome was running very slowly lately and kept freezing. I could not stay connected to my wifi so I suspected I had malware or spyware on my computer that my current antivirus software could not detect. So after a quick google search I discovered MalwareBytes. This program claimed to be able to clean all malware from a computer and it offered a 14 day free trial, so what did I have to lose? I downloaded the free trial and right off the bat I was very impressed by the time it took for MalwareBytes to scan my entire computer for malware. Sure enough MalwareBytes detected multiple threats on my computer so I cleaned my computer out and rebooted and my Chrome browser was working again! Chrome stopped freezing and crashing on me and I was able to stay connected to the internet for the rest of the night. I purchased a subscription right after my free trial was over. Cons I strongly prefer a one time fee over a yearly subscription. While I believe MalWareBytes is worth paying for, they should charge a higher fee that only needs to be paid once. Subscriptions can be very costly and it is easier for some to just pay one time fee or a lower monthly fee. Review Source Kyle W. You can set timers to have the program search your computer when you're not using it. I recommend this to anyone with a computer. Protect your computer, your work computer, and your family's computer with this piece of software. Say goodbye to whatever program was installed itnitally on your computer, they do not compare to Malwarebytes. No amount of IT appointments and frustrating phone calls seemed to be able to fix all of the issues. When our office installed Malwarebytes, issues were picked up right away, quarantined, and dealt with all through one scan. The scans do not take very long, don't take up a lot of disk space, and I rarely notice my computer lagging while a scan is running. Cons There is nothing I dislike about this software. My office has the paid version of Malwarebytes which has kept us all protected, and I use the free version of the software on my personal PC at home which is still just as good and has kept my computer from falling prey to any kind of malicious software. Whether you pay for the full version or keep the "free" version installed, Malwarebytes scans will catch anything suspicious on your computer. Review Source Dusan P. Pros This can be quite a handy little software. The reason why I call it "sidekick" is because it can go hand in hand with your current antivirus program without getting into conflict with it, and it can detect possible malware that your main antivirus might not, and successfully neutralize the threat. Pros This application is initially free to download and use. Generally, it exceeded my expectation and it is not inferior to any paid antivirus. When running scans, my computer does not experiency slowdown or performance issues. Cons Real-time protection is a paid feature, but the price is fair. Occasionally, it will freeze up in the middle of a scan.
