Pros

I've always had faith that the software was giving me accurate numbers with every updated version and the vendor has always helped solve any issues I've had.

Cons

I don't like the self updates. I don't think it's that easy to do the updates. I'm a user but not a tech. My issue is all stations/seats have to be done and if I make a mistake or goof it up, we don't estimate until it's fixed. For that reason we employ an IT firm that does it for us.

CTS is a low voltage special systems contractor serving Arizona, Utah and New Mexico with 4 divisions (office locations). We are a rapidly growing company and needed a more robust accoutning system that provided the functionality and expansion that would allow for our growth. We also needed more integration between accounting, purchasing and estimating. Prior to converting to Maxwell ProContractor we were utilizing Quickbooks Enterprise Contractor Edition. This software had its limits which we had out grown over the years. We currently have over 100 employees. We recently went to ProContractor 2.8 a few months ago and have recenlty upgraded to 2.9. The implementation went very smooth which was assited by the grreat folks at Maxwell. We completed the implementation in 10 weeks going live on July 1st. The over all funcionality of the system is great. We have now integrated our estimating and purchasing into the accounting system saving valuable time. THe customer support at Maxwell is top notch. They have been very responsive to our concerns and needs. I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking for the integration the way we were.

In March of 2013 I wrote a review on the software. I wanted to update my current status on our Maxwell program fiasco. To date, we continue to have issues - they chopped one of my issues as to needing a software update. In the update process, Maxwell said there was an issue and we needed to pay our invoice immediately to complete the upgrade - fair enough, we paid on the spot. The next day, Maxwell came in remotely to update our software, claimed they needed to evaluate our current database, then says they do not recommend an update at this time. Our issue remains unsolved. I stand by my previous review - I do not recommend this software for a general contractor, possibly a great software for a smaller company completing single scopes of work - but not for a general contractor. \*\*UPDATE\*\* To date we have spent countless hours trying to get Maxwell working properly. We have had the software over a year and still speak with tech support at least weekly because of system "bugs" (their words - not mine). I would not recommend this for another General Contractor. Go with the old faithfuls. We are very unhappy.

FAIRLY EASY TO LEARN TO ENTER INVOICES. SUPPORT HAS BEEN GREAT HELPING WITH ANY PROBLEMS WE HAVE HAD.

Cons

IT'S A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO FIGURE OUT ALL THE REPORTS. THE SOFTWARE HAS SO MANY OPTIONS. UNLESS YOU SPEND MANY HOURS GOING THROUGH EVERYTHING, IT'S DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHICH REPORT PULLS UP THE INFORMATION YOU NEED.

I feel you should offer assistance right away downloading program rather than having the customer attempt to install it.

Pros

Accurately measures plans. Nice that you can change symbols and lines to the color or type that you want to use.

Cons

Too many features that I don't need. Didn't like the price. I didn't like attempting to download the product myself. I received help but I was worried that I was going to mess things up.

Working remotely

Pros

Very handy to scan attachments to view them on the spot and really love the ability to use the cloud to work remotely on ProContractor anytime

Cons

searching where the red flag errors are is extremely frustrating. I wish they would highlight the cell and direct you better to save time searching

Detailed job costing

Pros

Very detailed job costing reports. Accounts Payable module user friendly and the reports are detailed. The ease of issuing SubContracts and SubContracts Change Orders.

Cons

Not being able to customize reports myself. Lien releases not able to print automatically when checks are printed.

Pros

Available on multiple platforms, staff tries to help but are compartmentalized. One stop for everything.

Cons

Oh my. No response whatsoever to programming needs, fee for help, very, very poor take off capability. Could measure SF, area, but i used a second application almost right away for takeoffs beyond that. Also, relatively easy tasks in other programs are not easy here. I am a pure construction manager, so the invoicing and accounting functions may work great, but I did not use.

Tennessee Dirt Works LLC is a small grading contractor and has used Maxwell systems for a while, but did not use it to its full potential. We originally were just using it for earthwork takeoffs, and then transferring all the information over to an excel spreadsheet. This process, which we thought was a fast process, ended up being a very slow and tedious process once we started using on-screen takeoff and estimator. Now our pricing and takeoff is done in one system and has become streamlined, saving us a tremendous amount of time. The capabilities to build assemblies in the estimator program, that covers all the areas of site work, takes all the guess work out of building your estimate. Also, the way the system breaks out Equipment, labor, subcontractor and material is a great tool. It allows you to see how much you have in each category instead of guessing; under the old way in excel. I would recommend ProContractorMX to any contractor that is looking to be able to bid faster and more accurate as well as track job cost in a more streamline fashion.

Cost effective bidding Time savings on labor to do takeoff

Pros

I have set up my own keys, can change look which enables me to show customer flooring breaks and designs.

Cons

Needs more designs for the items. When I am doing the takeoff and add it to the notepad I need to define the height of a wall at that time to eliminate an extra step.

Pros

Database flexibility allows this estimating system to work well for smaller business such as ourselves.

Cons

Looked at the possibility of combining with accounting system, but found the Viewpoint accounting package too extensive to work effectively for a company of our size. Could not justify the expense when it had many more options that what we needed.

Pros

The speed of the screen is very nice but it does come at the sacrifice of the quality. The data entry for the takeoff is on par with the competition.

Cons

Only looking at one plan sheet at a time is very cumbersome. Also, the program has a hard time uploading roll plots.

Pros

Ease of use and able to train new people quickly on the software. Always being updated and great reports to manage the business.

Cons

Would like to see customer service get back to me a little quicker when I run in to an issue. There are a few input items that once entered you cannot change.

Pros

Procontractor is user friendly and the online chat support is quick and usually dependable help.

Cons

It is what we in the office like to call "information constipated" it has more information than you could ever want but takes days and lots of man-hours for a simple report in any area of the system. There is no such thing as a simple or quick report anywhere in the system. A report we got easily in American Contractor took 2 1/2 days to create in Procontractor.

### "My review of conference"

My overall review of the conference is that it was focus on Vista and that the ProContractor user were neglected. I talked to a lot of people and we all felt the same since the beginning with the opening they only talked and demo vista, what about ProContractor. Please have more context in the classes, more advanced classes not only beginners. Repeat class so we don't have to take one and missed the other one completely because it wasn't offered again. Have more accounting content, there are a lot of us that use the accounting more than anything else. Have one on ones like before.

The classes I took were good I learned a little

Classes were to basic and not many selections.

CUSTOMER SERVICE, we have had this product now for over three years. Still insist the product support is minimal to NONE. They do not have answers, and usually cannot solve issues. The search bar/help is TERRIBLE.

Cons

We have no negative comments to make. We have used the product since 1980. The product has always been upgraded to stay current.

Pros

We do use the program for estimates, but after that its complicated on how to transition into the next steps. The best feature is the employee hours that we can track per job and cost code.

Cons

There is a major lack of customer support. You can never get a quick answer or assistance. And if its not a technical question, you need to pay by the hour to get the help you need so you can continue to run your business. There are also a ton of updates that always need to be done to fix the 'bugs'. A system and company this large should have that already figured out.

Estimating is great! Dynamic program that can help automate your estimating. Powerful assemblies allow you to estimate entire wall assemblies accurately with minimal input. The accounting module is not intuitive. It's limited, cumbersome and difficult to work in. My largest frustration in the entire process was around training. Due to the lack of intuitive use inside the product, it requires more training than other products we've implemented. The training is expensive so it's a double hit, more time and more money. Lastly, was our training path was bumpy and required even more time to execute.

Procon can both be a time saver and a time waster. I personally find it to be a very clunky, and I believe it is about 10 years behind the game on their user interface... Which I am hoping gets an overhaul very soon because I am stuck using it as long as I am with my current company. Great in some applications, but could be better. There is other PM out there that are far better and easier to use.

Pros

Being able to give our crews plans on the mobile app. The invoicing system is also pretty convenient to use.

Cons

It's incredibly hard to find or make reports that offer the specific details we're looking for. You should make it easier to create your own reports without knowing computer language and having a detailed working knowledge of SQL.
