### "Netdata: A Comprehensive Monitoring Solution"

February 15, 2024

5.0

My overall experience with Netdata has been highly positive, marking a significant improvement in how we monitor and manage our infrastructure. The platform's automation, combined with its detailed and real-time analytics, has transformed our operational efficiency, allowing us to focus more on strategic growth rather than being bogged down by monitoring complexities. Despite minor challenges in documentation and compatibility, Netdata's benefits far outweigh its drawbacks, making it an essential tool for any organization prioritizing effective infrastructure management.

Pros

Netdata excels in providing real-time, granular performance monitoring across a wide range of metrics and systems. Its automated service discovery and configuration drastically reduce setup and maintenance time, allowing for seamless scalability. The intuitive, customizable dashboards and powerful alerting system offer immediate insights and proactive management of infrastructure health. This level of detail and immediacy in monitoring is unparalleled, facilitating rapid decision-making and issue resolution.

Cons

While Netdata is a robust monitoring tool, its integration documentation could be more user-friendly to accommodate users with varying levels of technical expertise. Additionally, certain compatibility issues, such as with Litespeed webserver detection on specific server setups, highlight room for improvement in ensuring broad system compatibility.

I made the switch to Netdata primarily due to its superior scalability and automation capabilities, which significantly streamlined the monitoring process of our extensive server infrastructure. The challenges of managing a complex monitoring stack with tools like Grafana and Prometheus became increasingly time-consuming and less sustainable as we grew. Netdata's real-time, granular monitoring, coupled with its automated service discovery and low maintenance requirements, offered a much-needed solution. This shift not only enhanced our operational efficiency but also allowed us to reallocate valuable time and resources towards business growth and development, rather than being consumed by the intricacies of infrastructure monitoring.

### "Amazing monitoring solutions for probably everyone"

November 13, 2024

5.0

I'm positively surprised with the easy setup and the over all functionality. I have tried ELK, InfluxDB/Grafana and checkMK so far (as well as thruk at work). Netdata has been the simplest to get the functionality I need (Reports, Notification and most importantly Logs)

Pros

Metrics stay on-prem. Easy to use. Most metrics are already shown in some sort of graphs. Notifications on App/Mail are stupidly simple to set up.

Cons

The App is missing a lot of functionalities. Would be nice to simply create custom integrations (this may be possible, but I haven't found an easy way yet). My biggest issue is, that dashboards are a bit fiddely to create. Would be amazing to get some templates. Something else is: The UI could be a bit better. For example: It doesn't make sense that the "Create a new Space" button is always present. I much rather have the spaces in a small dropdown somewhere, the rooms in a list and the nodes in another list for easy navigation. Please. Rework your frontend. It doesn't take much to make it much more user friendly.

Reason for choosing Netdata

Because a lot of redditer reported well on netdata, so I wanted to give it a try.

\- I didn't like the ELK setup. - My InfluxDB/Grafana(cloud) setup was amazing. However, I never got notifications or log gathering working the way I wanted it. - Checkmk is horrible. I invested hours in setting it up and never got email notifications working. That should be a default feature.

I analyzed other solutions as well, but when it comes to speed in deployment with no interaction from DevOps team, this is the perfect product. You just install it and you are ready to run

Pros

\- no configuration needed - ready to run

Cons

\- there is nothing I can think of that I don't like

### "Simple, effective monitoring"

January 10, 2024

5.0

I don't think this product could be any easier to set up and use. The value provided and time it saves is astounding, real-time monitoring and alerting with interactive dashboards, statistics and even Machine Learning anomaly detection.

Pros

Easy to set up, with a vast range of connectors included out of the box. There are even more community connectors for almost anything that isn't already supported.

Cons

Windows monitoring requires a Linux agent that can connect to the Windows host.

### "Great experience while on-boarding and ease of expanding monitoring"

February 24, 2024

5.0

I'm very happy with decision to use NetData given our limited resources and quickly expanding infrastructure

Pros

Most important part was ease of introduction into existing infrastructure and relatively simple on-boarding. Such qualities of this product made it very valuable addition to our toolkit given the fact we have limited resources and team that is spread out across the globe.

Cons

Sometime it requires tinkering of agent on old/low power servers because by default all plugins are being enabled to be available. But that is easy to solve and since we got our template ready, it was not a problem at all later on.

### "Magic tool for monitoring"

December 22, 2023

5.0

Really great tool, easy to use and no problem to scale.

Pros

I really like the ease of installation, but most of all, the automatic metric collection is the main feature i like. Tools like prometheus needs to be expertly configured and needs an exporter for each specific third party tech you want to monitor. Netdata collects all of this automagically!

Cons

The only thing i'm missing is the ability to customize dashboards by selecting individual metrics.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Netdata

The price and the ability to auto monitoring a lot of metrics.

### "Infrastructure insights in minutes and at a predictable cost"

December 19, 2023

5.0

Amazing value right OOTB with instant insights with a large integration/plugin system to see all the data you need.

Pros

Netdata provides valuable insights within minutes of installation of the agents. It has a very predictable way of pricing, especially when you compare them with other cloud based monitoring offerings. The default overview of a server is detailed and always up to date. Plugins are easy to use and configure and again, instant insights after you install them.

Cons

Would be nice to group servers together into services to better correlate infrastructure events and peaks.

### "Great tool for Linux server monitoring"

December 4, 2023

5.0

I love netdata! Great product. Great community.

Pros

It does an amazing job monitoring many, many servers and allows for easy organization and reporting by group. I found things that I didn't even know were important as I am not a devops guy, but an engineer. Helped us solve problems we didn't know we had! Automatically configured alerts that can be easily configured using the API. I turn them on/off nightly during maintenance windows, customized by server.

Cons

I use it to monitor Windows and setup/configuration is very hard.

### "Netdata: The best monitoring tool out there!"

October 23, 2024

5.0

Pros

Netdata provides real-time stats on my server as well as historical data, helping me pinpoint why my server was running slowly. Initially, I had no clue what was causing the problem, but installing Netdata took only a few minutes, and it quickly guided me toward identifying and resolving the infrastructure issues.

Cons

Haven't yet had unpleasant experience. It's been easy to implement and the team has been great at helping me onboard.

### "The best monitoring for Linux system administration"

December 27, 2023

5.0

I have been a long time user of Netdata and can honestly say that the odd time I had to reach out to experts in the Netdata community forums it has been a awesome experience every single time. So we as users don't always remember to say thank you and I would like to correct that now.... A massive thank you to the Netdata community... you have been awesome!

Pros

First and foremost ease of deployment. once you have it installed the dashboards are super informative and allows for easy fault correlation and diagnostics. Then after that the ease at which Netdata can be modified and the feature list is awesome but I am most impressed with their ML implementation and how easy Netdata made it for the end user to use ML.... If you have not tried Netdata before you need to have a look at it ASAP.

Cons

There is nothing that I dont like about Netdata.... Maybe its that everyone is not using it.

Reason for choosing Netdata

There are no alternatives for easily deploy-able, massively scale-able, per second monitoring platforms out there..... Netdata stands out among the comp

### "Netdata for Service Monitoring"

December 29, 2023

5.0

I don't see a competitive alternative in the market and Netdata definitely has more pros than cons for us. Our cons are only around our limited devops experience and lack of desire to dive too deep into configuration.

Pros

We primarily use Netdata to monitor the status of our systemd services. While the integration is not enabled out of the box, we were able to get our config setup and automated via Ansible in roughly 5 hours of work (mainly due to learning the Netdata layout as we had not used this product prior).

Cons

Because Netdata comes with a lot out of the gate, it requires a high degree of competency to customize it if you need something the default setup cannot provide. Luckily for us, we only had to tune the alert thresholds & enable systemd collection + alerts. While this process was not enjoyable, it did not take too long so that was nice.

### "Server monitoring and alerting can't get easier than this!"

December 5, 2023

5.0

I highly recommend Netdata for teams of any size -- even if you are self-hosting everything. Netdata provides so many automated tools and alerts out of the box in one simplified solution that it blows any other tool I tested out of the water. The only way server monitoring gets easier is if you are outsourcing that service. And I'd argue that outsourced service should use Netdata itself.

Pros

Aside from the automated metrics graphing and alerting in Netdata which by itself is amazing, Netadata can also provide HashiCorp Consul service healtcheck failure alerts automatically by simply collecting metrics through the StatsD protocol -- a wonderful side effect I was not expecting at all and one that I absolutely needed! I was already planning to use Netdata due to all the other monitoring alerts it already provides out of the box, and knowing it can automatically monitor my HashiCorp Nomad integrated with Consul is definitely the cherry on top.

Cons

Container setup can take a few tries since you need to provide the correct mountpoints and other settings scattered throughout the manual, but everything is documented and once done it works wonderfully -- I haven't had a single Netdata instance crash in more than six months of constant monitoring and alerting.
