The native Identity migrations don't matchup with the MySQL data types. dotConnect for MySQL made it painless to setup and get working. I had previously tried to use the native MySQL connectors for .NET and wasted countless hours trying to get things to match up. This solved my problem in short order. Cons The documentation could be a little better and updated for modern .NET Frameworks. Outside of that, everything worked as I expected. It does what it does, and it does it extremally well. Pros Support has been outstanding. The tool itself is reliable and without bugs. This company provides a range of complimentary tools to streamline database development. Its integration into the Visual Studio IDE is a must for us and it's seamless. Cons We often get a warning that its not licensed correctly when installing on a customers site. We have a quick and nasty work around which is installing our DotConnect installation on the site and that fixes it right up. I completely understand the need for licensing selling software ourselves, but I find this product a little finicky at times. Mostly, it goes off without a hitch. Reasons for choosing dotConnect for MySQL The price is set just right. Freeware that provides the basic functionality of this product is definitely a case of , "You get what you pay for." This software, for the very little you pay, for goes way beyond basic functionality. The thing I love the most about this software, above all else, is it is NOT software as a service. Should you decide not to purchase upgrades, your software continues to work.
