I love the units going across the subjects.

Pros

I love the vocabulary pictures and how my students learning those helps them read along with me.

Cons

I just do not find it user friendly. I am always searching for what I need. I ask others where something specific is and they don't know either. I should not have to search for items so long. I also should only see the units I teach in my opinion.

Pros

PLEASE KEEEP ANONYMOUS One teacher that came to our school on a Teacher Improvement Plan last year is now receiving Effectives on the Danielson rubric from informal and formal observations. The administrator that oversees that site believes that such an improvement in teacher practice is due to the teacher being provided with the Encore Middle School curriculum and TeachTown coaching and modeling.

Cons

I wish there was an easier way to use the Teacher-Led sessions in Encore that you can assign the different levels to students faster.

Pros

The ease of the menus is absolutely my favorite part!

Cons

The lessons are too repetative and certain things are easy to manipulate and skip when we need our students to focus and do the work.

I've had a wonderful experience overall with TeachTown. The only complaint I have is the way they changed their pricing model without considering long time customers. We've had other educational products have price increases as they add more features, but they usually let us know well in advance so we can plan budget-wise. We've also had some companies allow "grandfathered" pricing to those long time customers who were there for the introduction of the very first version of TeachTown.

Pros

The interface models appropriate social skills in simulated situations in the Teachtown program. Teachtown has evolved greatly over the years. I'm most familiar with Teachtown Basics, though we did use Teachtown Social Skills for a couple of years with a handful of students. They now added some other programs to integrate the original programs with.

Cons

They used to sell their products individually and now they do not. We wanted to buy one licenses as we have done for many years, and now they require a suite of programs and a ten student minimum. We are very small and rural and we cannot justify purchasing for ten students when at this time we only needed one program out of the suite for one student.

Reasons for choosing TeachTown

TeachTown is great for very young children with communication needs.

Pros

I have been in the field of special education for close to 40 years. Some of my years were spent teaching Life Skills Classes. What I can honestly say is TeachTown may not be the answer to all K-12 intervention needs, but, for those students in Life Skills Programs, or with significant academic challenges, it "fits the bill" perfectly. I wish TeachTown had been available "back in the day", what a difference it would have made in my ability to teach, and what a difference it could have made in the lives of our students!" Thank You!! My student ask for this program daily. They love the games and the content that is own their level.

Pros

The best part of this program is the content is the same as all the other general education classrooms but modified for my students needs at a lower level while keeping up their interests. It is high interest but aligns with state standards. It allows me a as a classroom teacher to progress monitor each student's IEP goal and objectives.

Cons

The software has a ton of information and can be hard to navigate.

My experience has been phenomenal. My students enjoy it. I am able to follow both IEP’s and state standards for my high school students. Also, the customer service and care they give for the teachers using the program is really great. If you have a problem with the software, a simple email and the curriculum team will have it fixed right away.

Pros

The software is overall is easy to use. The lessons are easy for the kids to do and the built-in reward system is phenomenal. Having reinforcement filled into the app is an awesome way to have kids be able to stay focused on their work without needing an adult right next to them the entire time. I also really like the articles and stories they have gray icons that even if your kids don’t recognize words, they can recognize Having reinforcement filled into the app is a awesome way to have kids be able to stay focused on their work without needing an adult right next to them the entire time. I also really like the articles and stories they have great icons that even if your kids don’t recognize words, they can recognize the icons and still be able to follow along and track the story.

Cons

The only real con that I have had so far is that there is a bit of a learning curve with the capabilities of the software. Once you explore a little bit and figure out how the teacher and student side work together, then the materials are very well put together.

Teachtown has changed teaching for me. Self contained teachers so often have to create their own curriculum because nothing works for our students. This has fixed that. It has all 4 core subjects AND a current events tab with recipes and fun activities. It tracks all the data for you which is SO helpful as a special education teacher. It really does have it all.

Pros

I love the content TeachTown pushes out. I have been teaching self contained special education for 8 years in 2 different districts. We are actually teaching what our gen ed teachers are teaching, but on levels our students can understand - which is incredible. The levels of differentiation are fantastic and really help with the varying levels of students in our classes. I was speaking to a coworker and telling him that I was teaching my students about Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece and he was shocked that my students were learning that kind of content. It really shows what our students are capable of.

Cons

This is a new curriculum and there are some things that need tweaking. The lack of page numbers is really tough but they are working on that. I also wish there was a way to do the worksheets interactively on the whiteboard with the students on top of teacher-led lessons.
