Policy Specialist Government Relations Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Great Platform, but Takes a While to Master" March 25, 2022 4.0 Survey Monkey has a lot of utility and is a very useful tool to companies and organizations that are not able to hire a survey firm or do not have that expertise. However, the last year or so they have greatly limited the number of people/devices that can access the platform at one time. This is inconvenient at best (have to get a code from the administrator to change a device), and a struggle for organizations with limited resources to put toward data collection and analysis. Pros Survey Monkey provides an excellent way for us to ask our members about a variety of topics anywhere from how much they liked the last event to indepth salary surveys of our membership. Cons Setting questions up properly to get the information you are looking for can be difficult. Especially if it is a question which has multiple other avenues depending on how it is answered. However, the biggest issue that we have is the restriction on the number of people who can access the platform at one time. Our account only allows for two identified devices to access the platform. It is short and precise. The questions are straight foward. SurveyMonkey is specific that is can only allow one email address to submit a response per form. Pros The results being produced can be easily analysed and are precise and accurate. Cons It makes it difficult for someone to log in using a personal or work email address if they have more than one. This failing was partially due to our inexperience - but I feel a better user interface could prevent some common new user errors. Pros The feature set is large - even at the lower account levels. And if you select the best question types, the data insights that are provided are very good. Additionally, the tools to review responses and weed out incomplete or suspect data are impressive. Cons If you use the wrong question type, the data you get back is not useful - and given the range of types, it can be easy for a beginner user to make the wrong selections. Additionally, many very useful analysis features are only available on the highest account levels which are out of the price range of most small organizations. Pros It's really easy to use and it's quite popular, so you don't need to train your team much. It has all the basic things you'd look for in a survey maker. Cons Data analysis within SurveyMonkey is horrible. You can process the data using other software, but it requires changing a bunch of stuff. I was hesitant to try them out because I've had bad experiences with other survey tools but I was pleasantly surprised after the first week. I've been able to use SurveryMonkey for both in house surveys and customer surveys. This has helped me to find areas that need work and identify areas that working well. Lastly, I've been impressed with the customer service. I've had to call on them a couple of times and every time I do they are very helpful. I recommend SurveyMonkey for anyone who need a user friendly survey tool and doesn't know where to start. Pros What I like most about SurveyMonkey is the ease of use. It is very user friendly and easy to set up. This was a concern for my executive team but once we signed up it was very easy to figure out. I also really like the analytics feature. I am definitely a numbers guy so I like to see how well things are performing and where things need work. I like that I can filter and compare subsets of my data. I especially like the ability to add disqualifying questions so I don't have to pay for irrelevant answers. This was a big problem before I was using SurveyMonkey. This feature alone saved me a lot of money. Cons The only cons I see is that my team is having trouble with customization. We would like to add our company logo and color theme. Additionally, I would like to see a reports feature. This would help with analytics. Also, we are a smaller sized company so I think the price should be a little more affordable for small companies. This includes information about events they are planning (i.e. special projects for which we need to collect basic info regarding the project name, description, date, number of volunteers requested, etc), and class/conference registration. We use many forms of data entry including multiple-choice lists, single choice radio buttons, free form text, and controlled format text such as numbers only. My one complaint is that the system doesn't automatically send a copy of the survey to the respondent, so if they need to change a response, they need to contact us directly. Pros SurveyMonkey meets the typical needs of my department, namely to collect simple data (names, dates, option preference such as that for meals or lodging) at no cost. We also have access to an agency-wide account which allows for greater synthesis of data and varied reporting formats. For the basic user, however, this isn't needed. Cons I do not care for the fact that the survey confirmation for the free version takes you to a generic Survey monkey add screen without giving you a clear way to see a confirmation of the data a user sent in. This puts us in a difficult spot when users can't remember what class they chose to sign up for, for example, when we use SurveyMonkey for conference registration. Review Source LT Laura T. I like the different pricing options as well. Pros My association pays for Survey Monkey which means that we can do special themes and branding - which look amazing!! The product is so easy to use and there are a number of question templates that make it easy to get the kind of results that you are looking for. Then, just export it all into an easily readable report! We previously were using a survey tool that required us to completely re-format the report that took hours of staff time. Now with just one click we have results that are easy to read, share and store. Cons Once you determine how to export the survey to meet your needs it is simple, but it does require some effort to ensure that you are selecting the correct reporting options. Also, if you need to add an attachment to the final page of your survey, you have to make sure that you click off of the link before hitting next or else it does not save the attachment. Most business units send out a few surveys each month to make sure that we aren't missing any opportunities for improvement. I've had the opportunity to both build and take surveys through survey monkey and both have always been smooth experiences. Pros Survey Monkey has a very user friendly user interface. When you create a new survey it walks you though the process step-by-step. I work in an IT department and when we first got Survey Monkey I was the one who built all of the surveys however it was so easy to use that we ended up providing minimal training to the business units and gave them access to create their own surveys thus removing the bottle-neck having having it flow through just one person. Cons There isn't anything that I dislike about this software. I've never experienced any bugs or glitches and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. " November 16, 2017 5.0 Ease of use and functionality. Customization and tracking/reporting. Pros Survey Monkey can be a free account, however because we want full customization and to use it for multiple clients, we have a paid account. The charge for an account is minimal, and worth every penny. We get full customization of each survey, the user interface is incredible easy, and surveys are so streamlined. The best part is they provide tracking/reporting metrics on each survey that is significantly better than survey software that is much more expensive. Cons We oftentimes add a gift card as a "carrot" for filling out the survey. Survey monkey has not streamlined the process of issuing a gift card with the survey, so we have to send it out manually. For smaller surveys that works fine, but for much larger surveys we have to use a different system because manual gift cards is not a cost-effective option. Review Source SN Sarah N. There are so many features in which a template/library exists for that item so that you don’t have to create everything from scratch. I also love that whatever edits I make, are easily saved and reusable. And this software does a great job of reporting in real time and allowing you to understand what is working and what is not working based on the type of survey that you have deployed. Cons What I like least is that some of the terminology and language used within this software varies from standard application. When googling some of the terms to become familiar I would find several articles online that might reference a term one way where as this software uses it in another way. Although not every customer will respond, offering a "discount" of services if they take the survey offers the highest yield of respondents. I have always collected enough data to influence my projection reports with new campaigns or internal HR changes. Pros This program has been around for a very long time, and they continue to upgrade and polish their features. We use it in-house for HR purposes and also implement A/B testing with potential clients. My favorite aspect of this program is its easy user interface. This program can be easily used by beginners and/or experts. The design is intuitive and the survey questions are easy to set up. I especially appreciate the ease of importing email lists and exporting data results. Metrics are also configured for easy to read results, which makes it easier to justify the cost to my superiors. Cons For basic and intermediate data collection, this software is great. However, I would like to see more advanced templates for advanced users. Its interface is not complex and you are able to receive quick feedback on your results. Pros This software is so simple and user-friendly. It is similar to google forms however, it has more customization features and templates. Using the paid version of this program allows you the ability to make your questions match your brand. You are able to create very specific questions to really find out what people think about your company, service, product etc.. The software can be used on any platform to reach users worldwide. There are a number of tools to help you analyze the information you have acquired. Cons I am unable to come up with any thing cons about SurveyMonkey. Also, our internal team leaves a survey active on our website so users can rate and provide feedback on our current software and patches. Pros I like that any Surveymonkey user can call their help center if there's some sort of problem or question. Nothing like that for Google Forms. Also, upgrading SurveyMonkey allows surveys to be hosted on websites, which is great for regular-recurring meetings. Cons I did not like the "custom" charts that were available for premium users. I was hoping to have more control over the type and aesthetic of the chart produced. February 12, 2019 5.0 Pros I love to use this program for polling the different types of random questions I have for our business. We use it for the purpose of focus group testing. It is very expensive to set up an actual focus group and time consuming to find the right people to attend. This takes out all the hard work and I can reach out to a larger audience and hit my goals faster. It allows people to stay anonymous so I find that people are more open to answering questions I this platform then in person. Cons It does exactly what it was meant for. I have heard some people complain about this program, but I believe it does exactly what it says it can do. I wish though that surveymonkey could be integrated into another program like mailchimp. I think it would work well in one program like that. That's what I feel is missing from this program. I domt want to pay for zapier for integrations. I prefer programs that already have everything built in. I'm not very good at programming things myself as it is very time consuming and I don't have time to test it works properly. March 26, 2020 5.0 My interaction with this software has exclusively been with small personal projects, and while the features offered here are straight forward and intuitive, the price point is too high for me to justify. I can see a great value in using it for larger scale professional projects, but for smaller scale applications I have found more benefit in using free options. Pros The SurveyMonkey platform is surprisingly intuitive! When compared to cheaper or free options, this software really does stand out. The look and feel of my surveys provided through SurveyMonkey were more professional and the analytics seem to have an advantage when compared to Google Forms. Cons The lack of a free option has been the biggest issue for me. For people who are not financially dependent on professional looking surveys, this would probably be the biggest factor to consider.The value of this software is very high, but only if you are able to use many or all of the features available through the subscriptions. Pros Easy to use, like that you can buy survey responses or use your own group for free. Love that it does the data compile for you and you can view it in real time without harming the ongoing survey. Cons Recently they made "security improvements" under the verification of your device which is horrible and makes me want to stop using SurveyMonkey and find a new program to use. I am an active user as well, I do about $10K a year in surveys, but there new feature prevents me from using multiple locations and devices. It use to be I could sign on anywhere. Now if I try to log in from work it forces me to use my verification code and get a code sent to me because last time I used my device I was at my home. Then if I verify from work now I can't access it at home. Don't even mention that like many I have multiple devices (laptop for work, laptop for home, iPad, iPhone) good luck getting those all registered. Unfortunately SurveyMonkey is getting greedy and wanting to nickel and dime you and force you to purchase "Teams" contracts for multiple devices and areas.
