It is also excellent for creating simple, basic surveys that are short and sweet and need to be published on a site or sent to a large mass. I use SurveyMonkey all the time when getting feedback from users about different user interactions and products that I design in my company. The data I gather helps me to improve my design so the user has the best experience when using my products. Pros What I like most about this software is it's ease of use even for first-time users. There is little to no learning curve even if it's the first time you're creating a survey. The system has templates for different types of questions (ie. multiple choice, single choice), and allows you to create your own questions in the order you want them to be presented to a user. Cons I do not like that you can't stray too far away from it's template and simplistic styling. Sometimes when I am trying to use certain colors, or create questions with complex answer options, the features in SurveyMonkey limit me and I have to find a work-around, if possible. Moreover, they don't give me timely notifications, so sometimes I forgot about my survey that I published and forget to look at responses from customers because I wasn't told by the system someone took the survey. I have worked with other survey software packages and they don't have this level of customization. There are a variety of question types and you can use different rule settings to set users on a varied path depending on their answers. Overall, it's easy to drag and drop questions onto different pages and to create page breaks. There are also a number of design templates to choose from to match the look of your brand or business. Cons The customized features work well, once you understand your options. I often have to troubleshoot by trying different question types to see which one works best with the question I am trying to ask. The free version of the software makes it difficult to extract any data, so it really forces the user to subscribe to a paid version. SurveyMonkey recently changed their fee structure, which has made it considerably more expensive for a company with multiple users. You may have a few users that only need a survey once or twice a year, but they are not able to access a team login without having a setup of each IP address. The problem with duplicate IPs can be solved prior the data collection (in survey design stage). Pros The soft is good for real-time data availability, the interface is user-friendly, there is a very detailed online data analytics. Moreover, I like it very much for the admin app availability and thus mobile notification in case of new responses (in addition to email notifications). Also, there are options for data download in .sav, .xlsx, .csv, .pdf formats. Cons When downloading the data in SPSS (.sav), the database needs additional reconstruction: 1. When the question type is "Number", and only "Number" values can be typed, the variable is considered as nominal in the database (not as scale as i would expect), 2. For multicodes the selected options in the database in their respective column appear with their own number (and not in 0s and 1s (not selected - selected) as accepted in the research community). The other minuses is the absence of setting quotas and also it is not possible to use text piping and connect two questions with previous answer together. My first experience with it was in college. I used the free version to create a survey for the student government in assessing certain tasks within the organization. I was able to share the statistics and provided colored graphs for better understating in the presentation. I've also utilized it with other companies that wanted to ask me certain questions. They were easy and quick to fill out. Cons Sometimes there is no back button in certain surveys to go back and correct an answer. It's straightforward and works well on all types of devices. It's the answer for online survey projects. Pros SurveyMonkey is very easy to use. You don't have to be tech-savvy to know your way around this platform. The reporting features are also impressive and this tool allows you to export results as a CSV or PDF. It allows you to mail a large number of participants at once. For data visualization, it allows you to customize charts and graphs. There is a long list of ways to gather information and respondents can fill out the form in a breeze. Cons I wish they would allow adding of graphics or video into the survey. Cons The thing i liked the least is the way that people can connect to the URL in different devices and answer different times if the survey is annonymous. The expanded options with a pro account does provide great value as well, I really like the ability to use fairly robust features of the application at the free level for as long as I needed before deciding to upgrade to the pro level account. Easy to use, easy to get input through a web-based survey. Pros Ease of use, participants aren't required to create an account and the built-in questions offer some great options to get your survey laid out well. The free account level does provide you with a method to create a valuable survey, distribute the survey as needed, and review the results. Able to brand the survey for your organization/business. Cons Initial learning curve is high because of how customizable the survey tool is, but it takes very little time to understand how to use Survey Monkey to do exactly what you need. I feel as though more places should use a similar model (going through Survey Monkey) to collect information for awards or nominations, maybe even proposal submissions because it was so easy to follow. Pros In the past, I used Survey monkey to conduct surveys and get information for projects, experiments, and research. However, most recently it was the platform I used to nominate someone for the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast. I like that it made it easier to provide all the necessary information that was requested. Cons Once I got to the end and clicked 'done' and new survey popped up. There was no 'Thank you for your submission' or any type of confirmation that my information had been captured. I did not like that because it took me 30 minutes to do the nomination and I had type a great deal of content that I would not have been able to retrieve. I was left wondering if it had even gone through. So I went on the Survey Monkey customer service portion of the website (FAQ's) and learned that all entries are recorded and submitted once you click 'done'. That was reassuring, but it would have been nice to not have to go through all of that with simply a confirmation of receipt (and maybe a final preview sheet (of all that I had typed) before submitting). It is intuitive enough to do yourself without much help and does everything you'll need it to do. You have to have some patience when starting if you have a long survey, I guess that's what you'd find with any other service. Ultimately Survey Monkey does a good job doing exactly what you need it to. If needed you can integrate other products and services to do even more. Play around with it and see if you like it. Survey Monkey should for sure be your first stop when considering how to conduct your survey. I definitely use Survey Monkey more than other online survey sites. They organize the data easily and can integrate with Google Docs as well as other programs you might need to use. Despite its initially simple look it has some advanced features if needed. Pros The best part of survey monkey is its impact and accessibility. It is one of the biggest survey sites on the internet and makes reaching out to people easy and affective. A lot of people have used Survey Monkey before so as far as people using it, there isn't a learning curve for them to have to overcome before providing the information you're looking for. Cons It is not very intuitive, the overall look of the site isn't the best and UX could be improved. It's nice they try to build a survey for you but I find it mostly useless. It may be the line of work I do or the nature of the surveys bit. The flaws are not as bad as the good you can do with Survey Monkey. They're so easy to use, it actually makes you feel smart using it. Pros This app works similarly to other survey platforms. You create, send, and analyze data from surveys. This one in particular was the first one I have used. I don't use it too much to justify paying a monthly subscription, so the fact that there is a free version is absolutely critical. The ease of use is probably this app's strongest pro. Whether viewing data collected from responses on a particular survey, or changing a question from fill in the blank to multiple choice, this app is seemless. Cons As I stated before, there are loads of these types of apps out there. While Survey Monkey still ranks highly on that list, it falls victim to competition. Google Forms allows users to do much of the same things at a similar ease-all of this for free. If Survey Monkey wants to compete in this market, they need to offer something that their competitors cannot. Personally, I find the UI to be a little bland. Google forms has a similar issue. One way Survey Monkey could improve their product is by creating a more visually appealing user interface and visually appealing surveys. This is a huge need. Pros The graphics it shows on analytics make online work slightly boring as a PC user for so many hours in a day, it is very tiring looking at a boring screen with Bluelight and plain colors, SurveyMonkey at first looks like child-like but as time goes by I appreciate the colors they put on its design. I couldn't run it without it. I took a clunky paper-based questionnaire and turned it into a sleek, professional, accessable option that adds huge value to my clients. Pros Easy to use, easy to set up, able to tailor to suits my needs from branding and colours to logos to frequenlty asked questions. Love that I can hyperlink and upload through Survey Monkey.
