Pros

System is very easy to use. Concierge is very knowledgeable of leave laws and in various states. Would recommend using Sparrow!

Overall, the speedy implementation and regular meetings with the support team allowed us to switch LOA providers very smoothly. There were a few hiccups during our first year but because of the transparent communication as minor challenges came up (on their end and ours), we've been able to enhance our program and support has only improved.

Pros

The implementation process (easy), LOA/compliance knowledge of the Sparrow team, Customer Support for us as the admin team, dedicated LOA support for our employees - especially the way they can apply for state benefits on employee's behalf. It has been a game-changer for us.

Cons

No major cons. It would be nice if they were just a bit more involved with employee benefits during leave (directing them on how to make changes, initiating employee premium acknowledgement agreements, etc.).

Overall, Sparrow was great to work with! This is a great way to add capacity to your HR team, whether it's temporary due to a medical leave, or your team is just very lean.

Pros

We used Sparrow when our \[sensitive content hidden\] was out on leave. It was incredibly easy to set up and use, especially for states with more complex leave programs. We liked that it was pay per leave, so that we could work with Sparrow on leaves that felt more complicated, had more difficult compliance or involvement with a state, or when we were particularly under capacity on our team.

Cons

It was pricey per leave and we sometimes needed to nudge them to follow up. This only happened once but our hope was that once we told them about a leave, they would handle it from there -- but we did have the experience that we had to follow up to make sure it was happening.

Overall is has been a positive experience. The platform has streamlined our leave process, reduced administrative burden and provided employees with clear, consistent guidance throughout their leave.

Pros

I appreciate the monthly status check in. It has been a positive experience. The platform is efficient, user friendly. What stands out most is the level service and support we have received from \[sensitive content hidden\] , Customer Experience Manager. Exceptionally knowledgeable, efficient and responsive. She provides clear guidance and timely follow-up. Her professionalism and attention to detail make working with Sparrow a great experience.

Cons

One area that could be enhanced is the dashboard functionality. There is currently limited access/visibility to some uploaded documents. It would also be beneficial if there was a Spanish speaking representative available would help improve communication and support for employees who may face a language barrier. Maybe enhance the "report" section.

Our overall experience with Sparrow so far has been wonderful and I recommend them to businesses of any size. Whether you're just US based or global, Sparrow will make your teams more efficient and save so much time.

Pros

Sparrow takes the heavy lifting off our people operations team and saves us SO much time handling leaves of absences, I can't express our gratitude enough. Our employees are treated with white glove service from start to finish and we have a dashboard that shows us where each person is within the leave process. We're also provided with email updates and if something is out of the norm, they will reach out and ask us about it. Sparrow offers global tracking too, so our global HRBPs can track their employees who are on leave through their system and makes it so much easier to know who is where and how long they will be gone (since the leaves are so much different over in Europe). The customer service is super fast and reliable. I can count on an answer to my email within 24 hours or less and my contacts are very friendly. It was also very easy to implement. They ensure we stay compliant with tricky some state's PFL and get our employees the necessary paperwork needed, so we don't have to worry about anything falling through the cracks because we're too busy doing other things.

Cons

I can't see any real downfalls to using Sparrow. They truly are like an extension of our team and make a real difference

Overall, Sparrow has been a valuable partner in making processes more efficient. The team is helpful in providing pay breakdowns, which is very useful. While there is room for improvement, particularly with RTW verification and some challenges with the leave specialist, my overall experience has been positive.

Pros

Sparrow can submit claims to state administrations on employees' behalf, which saves employees a lot of work and time. I also like the payroll plan, which gives us a clear view of pay correlations.

Cons

Consistency with communications (to employees) and knowledge about our policies. Personally, I think there is a gap for RTW verification with employees and the employer.

Pros

I like that it takes the administrative and communication work out of managing our employment leave processes.

Cons

Some of our employees have complained about communication and the support they received from the sparrow team. And some of them want faster response times, so I think it could be helpful to set expectations at the beginning of the process so employees know what to expect.

Overall, Sparrow provided strong value. It delivered a much better employee experience around leave management, and as an admin and a team of one with employees in 26 different states, I have more confidence in the compliance and process support.

Pros

As both a user and an admin, I appreciated how straightforward Sparrow made the leave of absence process. The platform is intuitive for employees to navigate, and from the admin side it cut down the time I would normally spend answering basic LOA questions and researching for the 26+ states we have employees in. Their support team was excellent - responsive, knowledgeable, and proactive in helping us stay compliant. Employees (myself included :)) consistently had a positive experience, which reduced confusion and back-and-forth during what can be a stressful time.

Cons

The biggest gap is the lack of full integration with Rippling. Since we rely heavily on Rippling as our core HRIS and payroll system, not having a seamless connection meant extra manual steps, duplicate work, and more room for error.

Overall, Sparrow has been a really valuable partner for managing leaves of absence. They’re not the kind of vendor that will give you deep strategic advice, but they excel at what they were built to do: take the administrative burden off HR. I’d easily be spending 10+ extra hours a week handling compliance, forms, and filings without them. They’ve grown a lot as a company over the past year, from improving their team quality to adding more dashboard functionality, and I expect they’ll continue to improve as they mature. I believe they’ve given our employees a smoother leave experience, reduced compliance risk, and saved me significant time. While there are areas where I’d love to see them move faster or take on more complex guidance, I would absolutely recommend them to any HR team that wants to streamline leave management. I only wish we weren’t on a PEO, since that sometimes prevents us from using Sparrow to its fullest potential.

Pros

What I love most about Sparrow is that they take on the majority of the compliance and subject matter expertise around different state and province leave laws. I don’t have to spend hours digging into the nuances of each jurisdiction because Sparrow is already on top of it. They also handle most of the work with submitting state/government and disability claims, which is a huge time saver and reduces the risk of mistakes. Their platform is another big plus — the dashboard is clean, intuitive, and has strong reporting features. I also really appreciate that they’ve added manager and HRBP dashboards and automated email reminders, which help keep employees, managers, and HR aligned without me needing to chase. On top of that, our current team of CSMs and Leave Specialists has been outstanding. Compared to our first team (which was honestly a little rough), this new group has been responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely great to work with.

Cons

The main area where I see room for improvement is speed. Their typical response time is about two days, which is understandable given the volume and complexity of leave cases, but it can feel slow when we’re dealing with urgent, time-sensitive situations. Payroll processing is another ongoing challenge. The process can feel a bit clunky and delayed, and payroll reconciliations are one of the trickier parts of the experience. To be fair, some of this is made more complicated by the fact that we’re on a PEO, which adds extra layers that Sparrow has to navigate alongside us. Another limitation is with complex, one-off leave cases. Those often take longer to resolve, and Sparrow generally redirects us back to our internal legal team instead of providing direct guidance. That reinforces my sense that Sparrow’s strengths are in the administrative side of leave management, rather than acting as a strategic advisor. Finally, while the cost is on the higher side, I recognize the value in what Sparrow provides, especially when I consider the risk reduction and time savings compared to handling compliance on our own.

The filing time could be improved. For a few users, the process from filing to receiving payment has felt length. I understand this is also influenced by factors outside of Sparrows control, such as how quickly doctors complete paperwork, the employees timeliness and state processing requirements , but it an still cause some frustration.

The experience day-to-day is great. We know leaves change from one hour to another and the Sparrow team including everyone on the backend and payroll, are always aware of the latest with a leave, taking the appropriate actions and providing updates or reaching out if they need anything from us. Please continue to take care of the team that supports Yubico - we appreciate their support, we love them as humans and always look forward to our monthly check-ins ❤️🎉

Pros

The entire team that we work with is very responsive and knowledgeable. If someone is out of office someone else picks up. Our employees have had great things to say about Sparrow and their experiences.

Cons

These are very minor in the grand scheme of things but they exist so adding them here. - Offer phone support even if it's limited hours - We've had two renewal calls with the CFO the initial call was a bit of a surprise we didn't realize that's what it was about. The email only indicated to learn about our experience. The second call I think there were technical issues which happens and is out of our control. I do recall thinking though "I see and experience white-glove service from our day-to-day team and the CFO calls have been a little off". They are minor but I can't seem to forget about them.

It's been fantastic! Sparrow has made leave administration so much easier on our organization, and employees have been grateful for the amount of support in understanding and applying for leave benefits.

Pros

The concierge-level support is great for both administrators and employees. We also appreciate the flexible pricing structure and the consultative approach to helping us with leave issues, compliance, policies and best practices.

Cons

The only downside I can think of is one thing that would be a nice-to-have, which is seeing more detail on how much eligible leave time is available to an employee and not just what they're taking.

Sparrow's team is responsive and professional. They have provided more simplicity on the process of leave administration and a visual representation on pay for the employee. By utilizing our private insurance plan for paid leave they have also saved our company thousands of dollars this year.

Pros

Sparrow allows for a better employee experience on the leave side, while being an expert in areas our team is not.

Cons

Some bumps in becoming experts from the Colorado side, but feel their response to our concerns have been met with a sense of urgency.

Before Sparrow: we were harried and trying to manage state disability, FMLA and leave benefits. With Sparrow: we know our employees are getting professional guidance for their leaves. Employee satisfaction is high!
