### "Best plotting tool out there"

October 19, 2022

5.0

Excellent. Love the program.

Pros

I love Plottr and tell everyone that I know that is a writer how helpful this program is with writing your novel. From the initial plotting, to updating your plot line during the revision process, to keeping track of several books in a series. Easy to use. Support is great if you are having a problem. And the tutorials are excellent and easy to follow.

Cons

Glitches (when they have them) can make it frustrating...when it was not allowing me to save or freezing up. I reported it and it was fixed in August. I haven't had the same problem again. Thank goodness.

### "Lots of features with regular updates"

May 13, 2023

5.0

Love it so far. Use it on all my novels.

Pros

I love the ability to use digital scene cards instead of hand-written index cards to plot my story.

Cons

It needs more drag-and-drop functionality throughout, more nesting for outlining, and the ability to use more than one pre-defined plotting template per project.

Hi Theresa! Thanks for your review. You can already use more than one template per project. Here are instructions: https://docs.plottr.com/article/214-timeline-starter-templates#2

### "Plottr Up My Writing Game "

May 17, 2023

5.0

When I have had issues with the software or my account the customer server has been over the top wonderful.

Pros

The timeline is very visual which really helps me see the bigger picture of my written works. The templates really helped with my pacing. I love that I can add photos to my character and locations it helps me to find information quickly.

Cons

I struggled a lot with the version that was downloaded on my computer. I would loss my data and have to pull from my back up monthly. That is much better now with Plottr Pro it is all on line.

### "Can't start a book without it"

January 5, 2023

5.0

Extremely responsive CS. Very friendly and helpful- even after hours.

Pros

It helps me organize and plan out my book and gives me an easy way to find plot points and see gaps. It helps me visualize the entire book and share that with vision with others.

Cons

The Ipad version is a bit buggy and some features like pictures and notes don't work. I would like more book size options such as 8.5x11

### "Plottr helps me think"

February 15, 2023

5.0

Plottr is a great tool for guided brainstorming about a book idea and fleshing out the details needed to confidently begin writing. I wouldn’t start any other way. And, the developers just keep making it better. I don’t even realize I want a new feature before they deliver it.

Pros

Very intuitive, captures essential elements of a well thought-out plot. Especially love the templates for plot structure and character templates.

Cons

I love everything about the software, so I’ll just share something I’d like to see because I’m greedy. Sometimes I’ve started a timeline using one structure (ie save the cat) and realize I should have been using a different one. But I have to start over with an entirely new file, and re-enter everything.

[Scrivener](https://www.capterra.com/p/180597/Scrivener/)

Tried to do the plotting in scrivener, but tagging and notes wasn’t as intuitive as Plottr. Plus, scrivener didn’t have the awesome templates.

### "I love plottr"

May 22, 2023

5.0

It helps me answer the big questions and also let’s me see the overall plot which is a big thing with plottr. I have begun to notice my weak spots in my books because of this software.

Pros

Plottr allows me to plot my novels on the go. It also has great features and is easy to use with templates galore.

Cons

I wish there was a way to separate characters. I want to just make a series with the books with their own characters. Right now it’s all in one place. If we could customize each book in the series it would be awesome.

### "An excellent tool to add to the toolbox."

June 13, 2023

5.0

Very helpful in the early stages of large projects!

Pros

Plottr is one of the stronger visual-interface writing tools out there. Especially in the early stages of a work, it can be extremely helpful in just getting things laid out properly.

Cons

If there's a downside to the software, it's that it can be tough to make the jump from the groundwork done on Plottr to a different platform.

### "So Glad I Found Plottr!"

April 28, 2023

5.0

I bought an early version and have enjoyed each upgrade and the process of learning as Plottr has grown and changed. It's a great tool to use quickly when I want to get my brainstorming down and get the ideas out of my head. I can then switch things around quickly and change up what I want to do to the plot. I also like that I can plot out multiple projects. It's more basic than some programs out there, and I enjoy that because I don't want a program that is so over-blown I need an engineering degree to understand it.

Pros

I love the templates and how easy it is to use them. I'm a visual person, so being able to lay out my chapters within the Structure of the three or four Acts Plot helps me see where I need to plug holes, lay in twists and turns, and make sure I've accomplished the goals for my characters. I can "see" the layers and it saves me time.

Cons

I'm satisfied with the upgrades made in the past year and have no "cons" to mention.

### "More than a timeline tool for your novel"

May 31, 2023

5.0

Pros

I was looking for years for a decent tool to plot my novels, resorting to excel. The timeline plotting view is excellent and makes it simple to plot the scenes in my novel.

Cons

I would use the notes feature more but have got too dependent on the wiki aspects in one note.

### "perfect, and improving"

August 3, 2023

5.0

Plottr is extremely easy to use, but also extremely powerful. If you're accustomed to using something like Scrivener, this will seem like child's play—and yet it is SO useful and flexible. It started out great and has somehow managed to undergo continuous improvements. The number of features added since I've been a user has been phenomenal, including features I didn't even know I wanted/needed. Their support (not that you're likely to ever need it) is responsive and friendly. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Plottr, period.

Pros

easy to use, powerful, flexible, always improving, cost

Cons

There is nothing I dislike about Plottr, no matter how much I try to come up with something.

### "Wonderful Plotting Software for Writers"

May 24, 2023

5.0

Pros

The greatest thing about Plottr is seeing the plot lines laid out for each character per chapter. I'm a very visual person and this helps me as I plot out a book. I can easily add scenes or move them around with ease. I also like being able to save my own templates.

Cons

I can't really think of any cons. Sometimes I wish I could add more than one picture to the character profiles.

### "Kickstarted My Book"

July 28, 2023

5.0

I went from a bunch of book sketches that had sat on the shelf for years to a full-blown draft in a year. I KNOW it had everything to do with the organization Plottr added to my process. It forced me to clarify the aspects necessary to create a book. I use it in conjunction with Scrivener and was thrilled to find that I can import info from Plottr to Scrivener.

Pros

The organization that Plottr provides is invaluable to the process of novel writing. The ability to create multiple plot lines for plots, subplots, items, etc. is amazing. It makes it so easy to move scenes around and reorder a plot, not to mention tracking all the key information necessary to write a novel. The shear discipline cleared my brain from a creative brain fog.

Cons

Not being able to take a book out of a series and list it individually is a problem for me, but like with all new software, these things can be added as it develops, and tech support listens. Also, it is not as intuitive as I'd like, but again, it is developing and all the pluses far outweigh the negatives.

### "Great tool for organization and story prep"

December 8, 2022

5.0

It has saved me a lot of time and given me a user interface that's friendly and customizable.

Pros

It really allowed me to organize a massive series in a central location while providing me with ease of adjustment on the fly. The notes feature is superb. I can categorize all my locations, characters, backstories, and so forth in one place and tag them to different books when necessary.

Cons

The software sometimes behaves oddly on my Macbook Air. I will be typing, stop for a moment, and then the cursor disappears. I have to shutdown the program and restart. It's an annoyance more than anything, as I don't lose text because of the auto save.

### "Versatility and Idea Generator"

April 29, 2023

5.0

This is the best outlining and tracking software I have ever used for story plotting.

Pros

I enjoy the versatility of applying multiple story structures to explore plot generation and character development. The timeline view is super easy to use and manipulate, to change and expand. When ready to export the outline, it does so in an organized and useful way.

Cons

I have trouble placing books into series and then seeing the series on the dashboard.

Reason for choosing Plottr

I tried a free trial of novlr and to my mind, they were trying to do all the things associated with producing a novel. I didn't want to write my novel in the software, I just wanted a corkboard and index card system. And index card is nice, but certainly not as powerful or well-organized as Plottr.

### "Perfect for Plotters and Pantsers Alike!"

Plottr has helped me organize my narrative and introduced me to a wonderful community of other users.

Pros

The team is always interested in user feedback and regularly makes updates to give users the best experience possible. They even offer webinars with experts!

Cons

Nothing! Any problems are immediately solved by the excellent team behind Plottr. They obviously care deeply about customer satisfaction and feedback.

### "The tool I was always looking for"

January 17, 2023

5.0

Pros

Plottr is THE tool I was always looking for. It makes it so much easier for me to write everything down, collect my ideas, develope characters or story lines and plott them out into story drafts. There is not much to say I tried it out for some minutes, was conviced and in combination with Scrivener is everything I need.

Cons

As plottr is continuously developed there might be some features I miss now, but they will be added later on anyway so nothing I miss here.

### "Great Planning Software"

December 12, 2022

5.0

There is a bit of a learning curve, but once achieved I found it to be easy to use and essential to my fiction projects.

Pros

Plottr is now my go-to planning software for any fiction project. Easy to use, intuitive, it's become an essential element of creating plots for books or series fiction. It helps me with research notes, world building, series and book timeline, developing my plots, layering elements, and far more. Great tool for a low price!

Cons

The only con I see is that it isn't integrated into other platform writing software. it's stand alone software

### "On my 7th plotted book"

January 25, 2023

5.0

I’m plotting my 7th story on Plottr and know for a fact I would not have that many stories if it hadn’t been for Plottr. I’m a visual outliner and being able to see my scenes within chapters, along with pictures, is so much fun. This helps me brainstorm and see where my story is going. And if I need to move a scene…simple to drag and drop. I have recommended Plottr to all my writing friends and several bought the program and tell ME thanks.

Pros

The ease of dropping in a story plot template and being able to tweak it to make it what my way of writing/plotting needs.

Cons

Honestly, I can’t find anything wrong with Plottr. The company keeps adding improvements that I never knew I needed but am thrilled to have.

### "Not for world domination (but it'll do the job)"

May 25, 2023

5.0

I think the absolute best part of Plottr, and that is setting a high bar, is the company devs and customer support.

Pros

Structural templates, both for scenes and plots, are a huge win. ( Would be nice to add some similar template functionality for Locations.)

Cons

I wish that it enabled the user to split and merge plot lines. Sometimes (very often times) a scene will serve two plot lines, and I wish I could merge them and divide them after.

### "Excellent tool for outliners."

April 28, 2023

5.0

Excellent. Can't ask for much more.

Pros

The visual drag-and-drop outline cards are great. You can add all your scene notes right on them and move them around when you change your mind. You can add as many plot lines as you want, which is grezat for complicated stories. Excellent for outliners. The Notes sections allow you to add customizable fields so all your must-answer questions related to characters and scenes are where you need them. Great tool.

Cons

Very few. Scene notes is not as full featured as character notes. That may be the only one. The few short-comings I did notice early I offered as suggestions and were largely implemented. Developers are active in the community.

Reason for choosing Plottr

Youtube tutorials. Visual plot line.

I used to use Excel and index cards. Excel can be tedious and cards can go missing. No more. Everything is conveniently at my fingertips and I know I can access the information whenever I need it.

Pros

The features I love the most are the Timeline and Character entries. I used to use Excel and index cards. Excel can be tedious and cards can go missing. I can also export my info into Word for convenience. I am so very thankful that stumbled onto this software and tell any author I meet about it.

### "Excellent Product"

December 27, 2022

5.0

I'm currently working in 5 different series, so Plottr is essential for organizing all of my book writing life.

Pros

Plottr is a fantastic software program for visually minded authors who are looking for ways to outline their books without feeling boxed in. I love the ability to create templates on various books, which allows me to compare book outlines and ensure that each book in a series hits crucial beats. The Interface is simple and intuitive. I love the click and drag function! And then being able to modify beat placements and moments in the outline as I'm writing is absolutely fantastic. It's an outlining software that works with my intuitive writing process. I'm also excited to use this software for story timelines.

Cons

There are features I use less than others, but I'll probably use them more in the future.

### "Plottr - A Must-Have for Beginning and Experienced Writers"

November 23, 2022

5.0

I've really enjoyed everything about Plottr: learning about it during a few free Zoom meetings, signing up and trying it, and enjoying it for the last year. Please feel free to edit any of my review in any way. I'm sure I've made a mistake somewhere!

Pros

It gives you so many ways to get yourself organized. It also fills my personal need for filling in details. As a pantser, I find it hard to keep myself on track. Using one of the many plot templates, even trying out a few different ones is a big help for people like me!

Cons

I haven't really found anything I don't like yet. I am fairly new at this, so I wouldn't presume to tell you to make any changes, yet! Maybe in the future, but you'll probably create them before I even think of them.
