Pros Timeline-- Plottr makes it really easy to lay out your story arcs, various POVs, etcTemplates--the timeline and character templates are amazing (and you can mix and match!), but you also don't HAVE to use them, which is great.Outline-- I love that the timeline automatically converts into an outline. It made it super easy for this pantser to plot without getting too mired down.Export-- exporting my outline into Microsoft Word made it super easy for me to keep track of everything. I recommended Plottr to a friend and she raved about how it helped her outline a Christmas novella. I decided that now is the time to make myself learn a new skill. Plottr is that skill for 2023. Pros I just had to contact customer service when my Plottr app wouldn't open. They contacted me within 12 hours, gave me a solution with a dedicated link to redownload the app and I was on my way. I can't say that about all software companies. Cons Plottr has a bit of a learning curve. However, there are videos and seminars aplenty to help with even the smallest question. I also appreciate how engaged they are with their users, and how they're continuously working on improvements. Pros Attractive and user-friendly interface. For the most part, it helps me organize the info in the way that I want to. Cons Sometimes the info management can be a touch awkward and unwieldy, but not the point where it makes me want different software. I'm new to plotting (pantsed my way through my first two books) so I don't use Plottr to its fullest capabilities. But it's still useful, and I expect I'll dig deeper into it as I get better at plotting. I use Plottr Pro, because I want the ability to have my projects available online and synced on multiple devices (laptop and iPad). Cons I really really REALLY wish that the Pro/online version allowed me to also save a local copy that I can capture in my own backup process. Pros Plottr is flexible and easy to use. Having a visual representation of the outline of my novel made the planning process clearer. Cons I would like it if I could select multiple scenes when editing. I am sure that this is a feature that will be added as Plottr is improved regularly. It gives me a good, basic set of tools which I can then customize to fit my needs, which is something other novel plotting apps and software have not given me. Plottr is simple to use but extremely effective, and it helps me detail all of the information I need to reference in one convenient, organized place. In addition, it is very affordable, so I will have no issue updating my subscription as needed and continuing to use Plottr indefinitely. Pros Plottr has great tools, an intuitive interface, and it is a joy to use. The pre-set features and tools are useful, and the customization is unparalleled. Not only that, but the price for Plottr is far more reasonable than that of other comparable software I've seen, while the system is simpler to use. It is accessible and actually feels as if it's intended to be a helpful tool rather than just a way to make money. Cons The only cons I can think of are minor, insignificant things. For one, I would like to be able to customize attributes within individual notes rather than having them set the same for every note when customizing. Also, I've noticed on a large screen, the text sometimes blurs and you must hover over it/scroll to make it appear sharp again, but that's just a cosmetic issue, it does not hinder functionality. Plotter is really great because it is built JUST for authors, so I can tag my characters, put in full character descriptions, move chapters around, keep track of dates and events, and use templates when I'm unsure about a trope. Even though I don’t use all of the features, it’s still worth it for me and does what I want it to. Being able to organize the mess that is my brain is more than worth the price. Pros The timeline feature is by far my favourite part. I’m a visual person, so being able to map out and see the plot in any way that I need to makes it so much easier to keep things straight in my mind. I used to have to use pen and paper to plot out my novels \*exactly\* how I want them (because it’s different for every book), but with Plottr I’ve been able to customize it however I need. The character bio feature is also super useful. My books are usually pretty complex with multiple intertwining storylines, so it’s easy to forget minor character details. I use that feature like a story bible for my world building and character development so I can just look back at it without needing to reread chapters in earlier books in a series. Cons I’m sure the templates are great if you use them, but I prefer to do my own thing. I’ve tried to start with a template and customize it, but I found it to be more tedious. Pros I love that I can outline my novel, keep a "book bible" and research notes all in the same software. The software is easy to use and is consistently updated. While I think there are likely some bells and whistles to the program that I haven't used, the essential functions do really well for me. Endlessly customizable fields within the character page. Also love that I can add tags. I've also contacted the developer once or twice, the response has been excellent. Cons Pictures don't display very well within the "places" tab. Pros I love the ability to work out plot ideas visually, to move them to another timeline, to rearrange them. The plot templates are so helpful. The company is extremely responsive, implementing user ideas... without ruining the basic simplicity. Cons I was having trouble with vertical drag and drop, but that seems to have been solved. Yay! Switched from [Scrivener](https://www.capterra.com/p/180597/Scrivener/) Scrivener crashed on me after last update, and I was not able to get any help from support. I lost a lot of writing. Plottr is simpler. I just take the information and plug it into Google Docs now, keeping both windows open. I had documented everything on Plottr and it helped me do full revisions knowing what happened without having to reread the entire 90k book before I could begin revisions. Pros I like the additional features that have rolled out over the years. I started using Plottr close to its launch, and had to come up with some workarounds to limitations, such as adding multiple events per chapter. That addition was very helpful. I love the templates for different story arcs and journeys. Save The Cat helps me envision many of my past plots. I'm hoping to try the Snowflake method some day. Pros I like to flow but I found committing to Plottr helped me organize the plot line and ensure key moments were appropriately placed. I also like the flexibility the Plot Line provides. I typically start with tentative chapter titles, then a plot line with the timeline, another plot line with a summary of the chapters, followed by a plot line with each scene. The scene level is where I put my notes. The drag and drop is wonderful. There are also many tutorials that are very well done covering every aspect of Plottr.
