I write historical fiction so Plottr also helps keep my timelines in order. I love it! Pros Plottr is a straightforward, easy to use piece of software that offers a variety of story structure templates. It makes plotting a novel enjoyable and saves the confusion of countless scraps of paper and sticky notes. Cons There are no features I dislike about the software. November 25, 2022 5.0 Plottr does just about everything from character outline to color coding and an easy way to see your novel before you wirte it. It's flexible in design, allowing you to move boxes around. Pros The feature I like the most is the different ways you can see the entire layout of your novel, including vertical, horizontal, and size differences. The templates are a convenient way to outline a story and two can be used at once. Each box within a template allows you to write the basic premise of the chapter. Once you are done, the book is ready to be written from beginning to end. Cons I would like to be able to spread out the beats within a template so I can add boxes in between. If there is a way to do this, I haven't figured out how to. Most of my books are more like 50 chapters. I would be nice to see how my chapters line up with the templates I'm using. But as I used Plottr more and more I grew to appreciate it more and more. Now it's essential to how I break and write my story. It's one of the best tools in my box. Pros One place I can go and keep my outline and notes organized, as well as have my creativity enhanced. Cons Thus far, I have no cons. Pros Great for organizing thoughts. Customizable. Can move elements on the timeline around. I took the Plotter timeline and customized it to collect and organize my noted from all the astrology classes I've taken. Then, when I need to gather specific information for a book, I can go to the timeline or export to .doc and extract what I want from there. Cons There is not much to dislike about the program. It has helped me tremendously in both the initial planning and revision stages of writing. Pros I love being able to visually plot, move things around, and custom tag scenes. Cons Sometimes the updates are difficult to load/install, and the custom templates have been glitchy for me, but I don't know if others have had that experience. I wish it saved automatically. Pros I love outlining my books on Plottr. I love how many features there are and how helpful it is for keeping track of important plots, characters, events, etc. for my series. I love that I can print my work. This software has been a lifesaver writing my books! Thank you for creating it! Cons I had a pretty big learning curve with Plottr and at one point accidentally deleted some work I’d done. But once I figured out the basics, it was much better.I would also love to have a separate GMC for each character for each book. Or something to help develop a character arc over a long series. I use the Series view as my overall Universe Timeline and build the books off of there. Cons The iPhone app could use some performance improvements for large files as I can rarely load mine anymore since it got so large, but I more often use it on a computer so it's not a deal breaker. I like the timeline feature and that you can drag the post-it-note squares around the screen and then click on them. Cons There’s a small medium and large zoom button to see the whole timeline and zoom in/out, but the medium seems too big and the small seems too small. I wish there was more range so I can just see the whole timeline bit be as big as can be. But this is only a small issue, my computer screen is small which doesn’t help. Review Source MO Mk O. Cons Files sometimes get stuck on "untitled" and won't let you name them, so you have to save duplicates. Pros I've been a user since Plottr came on the market. The developer has worked hard and non-stop to add more features since the beginning. Cons It's not quite as intuitive to use as it was in earlier versions. But that's to be expected with more and more features. Plottr makes it easy. Pros I love the details this Plottr lets me get into. Everything you need for creating your setting, characters, and story are all in one place, so there's no need to keep opening up separate documents. Cons I really wish there could also be a place to write. Plottr is convenient, but I still have to use Scrivener to write. I would love it if it was all in one place. Pros I get lost in plotting complex stories with multiple P.O.V. Characters, parallel storylines and strange worlds. Plottr makes it very easy to keep the overview and find flaws in your story.Great tutorials as well for the most basic functionality, so I don’t have to search for solutions among the internet. Although Plottr updates with features, they don't clutter up the simplicity of Plottr as the features can be easily ignored if they don't fit one's writing process. The variety of colors make it easy to distinguish different parts of the book while making the process fun. Cons I wish I could use it on Chrome, but to do so, I would need to upgrade to Pro. Pros The ease at which I can add plotlines and differing points to my outline. It's very versatile and robust in this way. I also really like the general usability, and different small features that really make it shine (like the ability to color code, and export to word). Cons The lack of ability to add date 'Beats' as well as the inability to change that from 'beats' to 'chapters' without having to change every one of the manually. Basically, VERY small things. November 29, 2022 5.0 My brain may have burst by now without this program. I'm working on a multi-generational series with 15+ books over a 70-year timeline of character history for the overall series. I love that, with Plottr, I can visualize the complete series, but also the timeline for each book and each character. Without Plottr, I may have abandoned years of work spread over files and files of Google docs. I started panicking when I needed to find something. Now, instead of immediately stressing and wasting tons of time in searches, I can find what I need in Plottr in no time. As I build the world and characters for the early books, it will make future books in the series so much easier. Pros The ability to save my own templates not only for the overall plot and character arcs, but for scenes, character sketches, and other editing checklists.
