But there is too much emphasis on the templates. I don't care about templates at all and using them makes the work awkward. Even the default. Pros It makes it easy to create a series bible, especially with the new features for tracking characters across books. Cons It is cumbersome to sit and brainstorm a plot. There is no way to simply write chapter synopses without going back and forth between the timeline and the outline modes. Also, the importing from Scivener and exporting to it don't work correctly. The information mostly gets there (on export) but requires a lot of work to get the descriptions into the chapter summaries and I have had no success in importing existing stories in a useful way. If you're a beginner or an expert, I would recommend this. It's easy to lay out your novel even if you're a pantser and it's definitely worth the money. It was extremely helpful to visualize and plan the timeline of the book I was planning and to see how different plots intertwined. Cons The UI was not super user-friendly, mostly because navigating anywhere was a bit of a pain. Also , there was a lot of empty space allocated to the Beat and Plot ribbons in the visual timelines, so when zooming out or scrolling, it impeded how much you can see because the ribbons were so thick with empty space. Pros Character, setting, props, plot, noted … it’s all in one place. Makes writing a novel easier for an author. Cons I have been on deadline, and haven’t had the chance to learn and use functions like search. Search was a huge wait for me. I’m technically challenged and need simple things with clear instructions, and Plottr was easy to use despite my general lack of knowledge. Pros It’s ease of use. The templates and drag and drop features along with the tutorials really made it easy. Cons That it automatically added the characters from previous books when I was plotting the next in the series. But this is quick and easy and gives you a very good overview of your story. I haven´t tried all features yet and from what I experienced so far, it seems both very useful to try different variations in a plot. It is easy to get an overview of chapters, characters. I use it now to plan my plot but I think it will also be useful during the editing phase. It is also a pro that it is possible to export to Word. Cons I really do not like templates at all. Cons There are lots of features I haven't explored yet. But even with my limited knowledge, it's a super helpful tool. Reason for choosing Plottr The other plotting products are set up for someone else's method of plotting and keeping track of info. As if that was not enough of a challenges, I also needed to keep track of an evil spirit that temporarily switches bodies with one of the characters from another plot line. I tried a variety of methods without success to map out the story and who was in which body at any given point. Finally I discovered Plottr and came up with the solution of giving separate plot lines to the possessed character's bodies and to the evil spirit This way I could keep track at any given point in the three intersecting story plots of who was themself and who was possessed by the evil spirit. Until I tried to write a book, I never comprehended exactly how many moving parts and small pieces there were to keep track of. Plottr has been essential to establishing and maintaining a handle on those subplots, characters, and general balance of the story for me. I've used Plottr in the first instance and the second, but find it very useful for 'reverse engineering' your story, as it allows you to trim the fat from your story and ensure your 'beats' happen in the right place. It's handy too, for keeping track of your minor/support characters and their appearance as I'm always forgetting what my characters look like! Cons Nothing sticks out.
