It's given me the ability to see my stories from a bird's-eye view, and helps in maintaining the flow. Pros Getting all my characters sorted in one place is invaluable. I have well over a hundred characters across four books so far in the series, and it would be easy to lose track if I didn't have Plottr. Cons Integrating books and all their information into a series is less than intuitive. Plottr allows them to keep a chronological track of what is happening in the world during the time the story unfolds. The photo ability is great for visual learners to "see' what their world looks like. The scene breakdown allow for a Pixar approach to each scene of a "because of that" logic that keeps the narrative drive going. Pros Plottr is easy and it's flexible and can be used with any story structure analysis or genre. Cons Sometimes I get confused in trying to share the work I've done in Plottr. December 8, 2022 5.0 Plottr helps to explore story structure in a quick and easy way. It saves a lot of time to be able to try out different structures. It's great to have many of the leading story structure methods embedded into templates, so you can easily experiment with different structures before and during writing. Also, ability to visually track multiple storylines is helpful. Export to Scrivener function integrates nicely with my process. Pros Very easy to explore story structure using a range of templates based on popular story structure like Snowflake Method, Hero's Journey, etc. Cons Ultra-flexibility of the tool has made navigation a bit challenging for me at times. Reason for choosing Plottr Plottr was to my knowledge first on the scene. I learned about them through a seminar at a writing conference so I got to see the software as it is intended to be used. Pros The timeline feature of this product is exactly what I have needed to aid with story planning and organization. I can create a timeline that handles both the chronology, as well as what each character is doing in that chronology. The "Save the Cat" template is a great example of how I was able to streamline my usual tangential thinking into a more cohesive effort, saving my time and teeth-gnashing bouts. There's tons of templates you can use to help you lift-off quicker into your work. Try them, study them, and see what works best for you. Pros The visual aspect to see where I'm going with my plot is key; I'm a visual creature. I typically plot by the pants, a truly messy and "pig on stilts" way to go about plotting my books. Plottr helped me "see" the road ahead and avoid the typical potholes my axles have crashed into over the years. Cons Ramping up can be a bit of a chore; I admit it. The learning curve can be daunting, but if only if you're like. I'm a bit ADHD so I get annoyed easily. It's more "user" annoyance than product performance. But stick with the videos and tutorials and you can get onboard A LOT quicker than just going in blind. August 14, 2023 5.0 Pros I love the ability to map out different storylines and then add more details into each piece of the map to create an outline. Cons I've had some glitches, especially when trying to use it on mobile. I was really hoping to be able to access my notes between computer and mobile but it always seems to mess up my file. I also only have the Mac license but my Mac doesn't always work, so when I use my PC I can't use Plottr. I wish there was an easier way to even just view what I have stored in a browser or something!
