August 17, 2022 5.0 Pros GEMS allows me to seamlessly manage multiple clients' grant portfolios all in one place. Deadline reminders and communication with funders, clients, and teammates is facilitated through the platform. Instead of keeping funder information in my head, on a spreadsheet, or on post-it notes on my desk, I keep it all in GEMS where it's accessible to all. Since using GEMS, my firm's procedures have tightened up considerably- from application prep to submissions to funder communication to award procedures... it's all improved thanks to GEMS! Cons I would love to have an app for mobile use- I've heard it's coming soon and I can't wait! August 17, 2022 5.0 GEMS has been a game changer for my business. GEMS provides amazing learning opportunities with its creators to get on a video chat and ask questions, receive tutorials, and really feel like you are utilizing the system to the fullest extent. After attending an online class, I felt confident to dive in and use GEMS to help me get organized and stay on task. My productivity has increased and my stress has decreased because I can efficiently and effectively keep track of my work. I recommend GEMS to every grant writer I know to help them stay organized and never stress about remembering a deadline again! Pros I find GEMS incredibly easy to use and it helps me stay organized and focused on current and upcoming work. It is also very helpful when discussing projects with my clients because all of the information is at my fingertips and I can let them know the status of all the projects I have worked on for them. Cons I like that GEMS is continuously making improvements to their system so certain things that I didn't like when I first started using have changed as their team makes improvements to the system. Any issues that have come up, we have received support on and the issue resolved. The on going learning experiences with the Master Classes are an added bonus and so insightful. The team at GEMS also want feedback from the users, as they have reported making changes to the software based on user suggestions. It is nice to be heard. Pros There are many feature in GEMS that I find to be really great. As a new user to the software and to fundraising, I found GEMS to be very user friendly. Tracking of tasks and running reports has been very helpful for both our team and clients. The support provided by the GEMS team has been amazing! We absolutely love attending the Master Classes to learn more about how we can utilize the software better. Cons As I was thinking of the one thing I had planned to write, I realized how I could change a setting to make it work. :) At this time, I don't have anything that I like the least about software. Pros GEMS has the most functionality among all the grant software I have used. It is a filing system, a tracking system, and a reporting system. With minimal information inputted, I can produce detailed reports for board members and leadership teams to see. I used to have three different systems to accomplish what GEMS does in one system. It has great visuals and is great for staying on top of tasks, tracking the progress of an application, and reporting funding. Pros The organization for grants is unbeatable. Gems is wonderful for streamlining the process. Cons The only thing I don't love about GEMS is the library. It is wonderful to be able to upload important documents, but I still keep a separate Google Drive for each client because GEMS does not have a way to categorize documents in the library. Without folders or a way to categorize, it becomes a hodge podge of documents to sort through utilizing the search bar. You can create folders for your documents using the TASK function. Name the TASK your folder name and upload the documents - it will be filed under your submissions. You can force your file folders to the top of your submissions list by numbering the folders, such as 001, 002 and add the folder name too, of course. Cons The thing I least like about GEMS is the save button being only at the far bottom of a page. My subcontractors making changes but forget to scroll down to the bottom. Plus, GEMS doesn't remind you that you made changes that aren't saved before you leave the page. After the initial demo, I found it easy to navigate my way around GEMS. The more time I spent on it, the more uses I had for the software. The various reports the system automatically runs made it easy to know success rates. Pros This is the only software that downloads the documents directly to my computer upon opening it. Everything was easy to access and the live links took you directly to the document it was referring to. Cons Loading of the software slowed down as more information was added to the system.
