Pros Revit is the gold standard in the U.S. for BIM, and as such, it is used by a wide variety of collaborative team members including architects, planners, engineers, and subcontractors. Cons Revit 3D rendering is subpar compared to programs like Lumion. It is hardware-intensive and does not deliver industry-best results. Also, in order to render on the Cloud, you have to purchase credits from Autodesk. Also we can automate complex task as well with revit automation. Cons There is no option for downgrade of revit file. I think, at least they should provide this option with limitations. The graphic result that I achieve with the software has become the identity of my project presentations. Pros With Revit I got to know BIM and understood the potential of this methodology. It was through the software's ability to integrate with other programs dominated by other civil construction disciplines that I was actually able to apply a viable and feasible solution to my projects. The benefits of Revit's BIM tools are recognized not only by the technical engineering and architecture team, but also by the administrative, financial and planning teams. The graphical representation that I get with the software makes understanding and communicating with different sectors easier. Cons The more technical aspects of Revit are essential for the platform to work, but in some ways, for architecture, they also seem to limit the creativity and organic design of architecture. It helps a lot in laborious talks which will take forever in software that just have 2d drafting. So, even if you are an organization or an individual, you should give a previous thought as BIM software are the future and are getting widely accepted in the industry. Pros \- It saves a lot of time as everything is simultaneous rather than working in Autocad.- Incorporating small changes is easy as you can change in one view be it 3d, plan or elevation and everything is changed. Even in you composed sheets and thus is of great help.- It has various integration with other 3d rendering software such as Lumion, Enscape, Twinmotion, etc. So, you don't have to export your model to another software, everything is just there. - Integration of Dynamo helps even more. Cons \- It hasn't received a lot of changes for the past 5-6 years or even more, so even if you are using an old version or a new one, there are hardly any differences.- Modelling in it as a beginner is a little hard and might seems a steep learning curve initially. - Making curved buildings requires a lot of effort as compared to simple rectangular ones.- Inbuilt render engine is not that great so you have to use another program for rendering. We have been have able to visualize and model products for take-offs and quotes effectively. Pros the ability to create our own families for our products and quickly produce drawings parametrically.Implementing has been a pretty easy process. But like a set of legos with many ways to assembly. We are always striving to best develop the best process and practices for long term use. Cons We wish Revit was a combination of Advanced Steel and Revit. Even thou this is not the best practice for this type of software, our new users are adjusting to new techniques and practices based on Revit and BIM modeling. But it comes with a larger price tag. Can be used for many purposes and currently, this is the industry standard for designing. Designing complex structures will be harder but considering advantages and disadvantages this is a good application to use. Pros Another great solution from Autodesk. In Revit, we have the ability to draw, design, and model structures depending on our needs. With tools to draw in 2D and easily model it into 3D, Revit is the solution architectures and civil engineers have been looking for. And especially with modeling and presentation tools Revit is the whole package. This package can be effectively used for architectural, structural, HVAC, and MEP modeling. And with enhanced support from other Autodesk applications, Revit seems like the industry-standard design software. Cons The main disadvantage is the higher price value for Revit. So middle and startup companies have to think twice before purchasing Revit. Also somewhat harder to create complex models. And for a beginner, this would be harder to learn and use. Tried several other products and this is still the easiest to use and my favorite. Still use it till date and don’t think I am gonna stop anytime soon as long as I am practicing architecture. Pros Revit is one of the best and easy BIM software one can easily get started on. The features are easy to learn how to use. I love the fact it is easy to bring in other file types like cad files, pdfs, images and you can also export in so many different formats. Revit makes team work easy with the work sharing feature and the fact it allows for so many other professions like civil engineers, electrical to be able to carry out their own works on it as well. It is one of the best platform that works with so many other softwares easily like sketchup,rhinoceros and grasshopper, 3dmax, vray, enscape. It also has it's own simple in built rendering software. Revit considers educators and students and let them have access to the softwares for free! Cons Although really good, revit does not allow for newer versions of the software to open files from older versions except if the file is upgraded to the new version which sometimes data can be lost. You can't open newer files in older versions and there is no option for a downgrade like the upgrade.Also, the cost of the software is high. As much as they offer it free for students and educators, if you don't fall in this category it can be quite expensive to purchase especially for those who probably don't earn a lot. Working in 2D and 3D this days is the best tool because most of our clients like to see what the project will look like in real life and with this we can do it in a short time too This software also lets me work together with others like AutoCAD or SketchUp, this is very helpful since so many people are doing the transition from AutoCAD for example to Revit and the have the projects in CAD Cons What I think it could be fix in this software is to find and easy way to apply location or sun position for projects that have a rear topography or needs/want a sun/shadow projection. Even though there are multiple Bentley software, Revit still manages to be the top choice of engineers when it comes to collaborating with each other and delivering a digital product. Its been tricky to incorporate Site Civil/ Land development features into the Revit model and that is where Revit needs to upgrade itself and fill the gap that currently exists. Pros Collaboration of the different trades such as electrical, mechanical, structural, & fire protection etc is the best feature that Revit can offer. Cons Collaboration with Site Civil is still something that Revit lacks today. Site Civil uses Civil3D as their main go-to software and interoperability between Civil3d and Revit is something that doesn’t work well. You have to find a work around to make it work. Using NWC exports, or IFC exports works but does not carry all the information.
