AutoCAD has been a reliable and powerful tool for creating accurate 2D drawings and engineering documentation. Its extensive drafting capabilities, industry-standard DWG format, and customizable interface make it suitable for a wide range of design and engineering applications. The software provides excellent precision and flexibility, helping improve productivity and collaboration across teams. While the learning curve can be challenging for new users and the licensing cost is relatively high, its robust feature set and reliability make it a valuable solution for professional CAD work.

Pros

AutoCAD is a powerful and industry-standard CAD software that provides excellent precision for creating 2D drawings and detailed engineering designs. The drafting tools are comprehensive, the interface is highly customizable, and the DWG file compatibility makes collaboration with other teams and vendors straightforward. It is reliable for electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings, and the extensive command set helps improve productivity once users become familiar with the software.

Cons

The software has a steep learning curve for new users, and some advanced features can be difficult to discover without training. Licensing costs can be high compared to some alternatives, especially for occasional users. Performance may slow down when working with very large or complex drawings, and certain workflows still require multiple manual steps that could be more streamlined.

Overall, I enjoy using AutoCAD to make quick drawings when Revit is not needed. It is great that the overall layout has not changed too much over time where it would be difficult to find many items you are used to in previous versions. There are little refinements over the years that keep making the software better and better.

Pros

I have used AutoCAD for years and I like the ease of use and how features continually get improved to make drafting that much easier. I like how AutoCAD can be used to quickly draft in 2D when you need to get a drawing out quick as opposed to using Revit which can take some time because of the 3D nature.

Cons

The thing that I liked the least about AutoCAD is just that some commands are not too easy to find and require a few digging into the menus to find the right command you need.

Overall, my experience with AutoCAD was powerful and professional, but demanding. It’s an extremely capable tool that excels at precision and detailed drafting, making it well suited for technical, architectural, and engineering work. Once you’re comfortable with the interface and commands, it offers great control over drawings and is reliable for handling complex projects. However, that power comes with a steep learning curve and time investment. Getting up to speed takes patience, and even experienced users often rely on shortcuts, templates, and custom workflows to stay efficient. For simpler tasks, AutoCAD can sometimes feel heavier than necessary, especially compared to newer or more specialized design tools. Overall, AutoCAD delivers a robust and industry‑standard drafting experience that’s ideal for professionals who need accuracy and flexibility. It’s most rewarding when used regularly and for complex work—but may feel overwhelming for casual users or those with lighter design needs.

Pros

What I liked most about AutoCAD was its precision and versatility. It gives you a high level of control over drawings, making it ideal for creating accurate, professional‑grade designs across a wide range of industries.

Cons

What I liked least about AutoCAD was its steep learning curve and overall complexity, especially for new or occasional users.

The use of AutoCAD has resulted in a greater efficiency and accuracy for projects. Its widespread application means that files are often created and exported by other firms, making a subscription a complete necessity.

Pros

The capabilities of Autodesk products far exceed those of similar softwares. There is a reason why AutoCAD is so heavily utilized in the workplace and a huge part of that is its versatility. The cost does not feel steep when you pair it with unlimited applications and a library of resources to reference.

Cons

While this system is undoubtedly invaluable, the capacity in which you can utilize the software is directly linked to the time spent learning it. With nested menus, hyper-specific commands, and premade templates as just a few examples - AutoCAD requires an expertise that should not be undervalued.

With a properly trained staff working with Autocad is very productive and enjoyable. Prepares a complete set of plans and quantity takeoffs for bidding.

Pros

Autocad is simply the best software for preparing civil engineering plans in 2D and 3D. Easily shared .dwg drawing format.

Cons

The annual subscription cost seems to increase substantially. Moving to other software is not an option do to the training time invested and Autocad being the standard used by many firms.

I have used AutoCAD for 12 years now and never once even had to call technical support or have any issues. From updating to the newest software each year to keeping it up and going on multiple devices working in tandem, I never once had a software issue. Now hardware when plotting out a massive drawing..... that can be a different story.

Pros

I personally liked the exclusivity of it, which kept demand up for anyone AutoCAD savvy. In my opionion it is the pinnacle of software for technical creation that needs to be finite in details or measurements. What really sealed the deal is when they integrated BIMS and endless libraries for everything and anything. From textiles to furniture and specialty equipment, there is now a BIM for everything, which is so much better than a dedcade ago when you had to draw in everything yourself.

Cons

Some projects don't require measurements to be so finite therefore making it more time consuming for simplier tasks that don't require precision work. Or in other words trying to use this software to do things it can do but wasn't necessarily designed for.

Pros

Pros

It can be quite expensive but it's the industry standard for design. Weather its civil, electrical, mechanical or something else it is easy to use and offers lots of customization.

Cons

It can be pricey and if you are having a specific issue customer support might not be able to help you quickly without escalation first.

Cons
