### "Autocad for design detailing"

September 21, 2025

4.0

Using autocad for design drawings has increased my efficiency to execute designs of the site. I have used autocad to create: floorplans, elevations, electrical drawing, ceiling drawing, false ceiling drawing. Once the drawing is properly detailed it can be very hassle free to execute it in the site as vendors and contractors can read it easily. It creates a language that acts as a bridge between different stakeholders.

Pros

1\. Autocad is one of the most used software in my field- Interior Design. 2. It is very efficient to detail the technical aspects of the design. 3. It is used to create drawings for constructions such as plumbing, electrical, false ceiling plan, floor plan, elevation contributing in project management. 4. The extensive variety of commands make it easy to use.

Cons

1\. It requires lot of time and practice to build efficiency and speed. 2. Its user interface makes simple designs complex. 3. The subscription cost is little on higher side, making it little expensive for some people who aren't using it on regular basis.

### "Easiest to implement and most reliable CAD software"

November 23, 2024

5.0

I have been using AutoCAD for more than 14 years, and it has been crucial in every project we used it, both academically and professionally. However, in the last couple of years, I have started to migrate complex projects to Revit and maintain Interior works in AutoCAD.

Pros

Easiest to implement and most reliable CAD software in the market. Very versatile for early stages and even entire projects.

Cons

When developing large and complex projects, AutoCAD might not be the best alternative as you have to develop more drawings. If that is the case, you might want to go for Revit instead.

The consultants we worked with used AutoCAD, so we found it easier to work with their .dwg formats.

### "Using AutoCAD for event production/management"

February 22, 2026

5.0

I have used AutoCAD for 12 years now and never once even had to call technical support or have any issues. From updating to the newest software each year to keeping it up and going on multiple devices working in tandem, I never once had a software issue. Now hardware when plotting out a massive drawing..... that can be a different story.

Pros

I personally liked the exclusivity of it, which kept demand up for anyone AutoCAD savvy. In my opionion it is the pinnacle of software for technical creation that needs to be finite in details or measurements. What really sealed the deal is when they integrated BIMS and endless libraries for everything and anything. From textiles to furniture and specialty equipment, there is now a BIM for everything, which is so much better than a dedcade ago when you had to draw in everything yourself.

Cons

Some projects don't require measurements to be so finite therefore making it more time consuming for simplier tasks that don't require precision work. Or in other words trying to use this software to do things it can do but wasn't necessarily designed for.

### "MEP AutoCAD"

January 13, 2025

5.0

I love AutoCAD for MEP design that is done at my job and it makes for an easy time doing so.

Pros

AutoCAD provides ease of design and also helps in the drafting world for engineers.

Cons

Navigating and utilizing 3D is hard in AutoCAD there is Fusion and Revit to support that.

### "Autocad for 2D drafting"

October 28, 2024

5.0

Overall experience is good and recommended for averyone.

Pros

.This is the most precise drafting tool ever made. Normally I use this tool for 2D drafting in civil engineering related drawings. Easy to use due to developed tool menus and also specially due to real world commands.

Cons

When it comes to civil engineering related 3d drawings, AutoCAD is not so user friendly when compared with Revit.

### "A design screwdriver"

September 22, 2024

4.0

Autocad is like a screwdriver, that you can sometime find outdated, but does always the work with some effort.

Pros

The consistency of a design tool evolving trough the years

Cons

The difficult management of the complexity and the still over-structured approach to print.

Alternatives considered

[ARCHICAD](https://www.capterra.com/p/2018/ArchiCAD/)

Reason for choosing AutoCAD

I used in parallel. In the architecture studio I was collaborating with Archicad was a must use for big project design management. Autocad still has some pro and fits better product design approach.

As an architect, AutoCAD is an essential tool for creating all types of drawings (floor plans, elevations, electrical layouts, ceiling plans, etc.). It is extremely useful, and I learned how to use it easily.

Pros

With its simplified interface, anyone can create any drawing they want, even if they have never used the program before.

Cons

Since my computer isn’t very powerful, my files occasionally suffer from bugs, particularly when working with large projects.

### "Autocad review"

February 22, 2026

5.0

With a properly trained staff working with Autocad is very productive and enjoyable. Prepares a complete set of plans and quantity takeoffs for bidding.

Pros

Autocad is simply the best software for preparing civil engineering plans in 2D and 3D. Easily shared .dwg drawing format.

Cons

The annual subscription cost seems to increase substantially. Moving to other software is not an option do to the training time invested and Autocad being the standard used by many firms.

### "Software Is Worth It"

April 9, 2025

5.0

It handled the layout and precision really well, which made it easy to manage spacing, measurements, and alignment. I liked how detailed I could get, especially when working with layers and snapping tools—it kept everything clean and organized. That said, AutoCAD’s interface can feel a bit heavy at first. It’s not the most beginner-friendly software, and it takes a while to get the hang of all the commands and shortcuts. But once you're used to it, it’s powerful and reliable. For big layout jobs like this one, it definitely got the job done. Just be ready to invest a bit of time upfront learning the tools if you’re not already familiar.

Pros

Using 3D CAD software has made a big difference for me. It makes explaining designs so much easier—being able to show a 3D model with exact measurements and materials really helps get everyone on the same page. It’s also great for spotting problems early, which saves time and money down the line. I like how easy it is to go from a digital model to a 3D print—just export to STL and you're good to go. Plus, it automatically updates things like the bill of materials when you make changes, so no more manual edits. Features like drag-and-drop, 2D drawings, animation, and version control make the workflow smooth. Pricing depends on what you need—there are cheap options out there, but if you want the full toolset, it’ll cost a bit more. If you’re in design, manufacturing, or anything hands-on, I’d definitely recommend giving 3D CAD software a shot. It boosts productivity and makes your ideas come to life.

Cons

The cost of full-featured versions. While there are cheaper options, getting access to advanced features like sculpting tools, mesh modeling, or full integration can get pricey, especially if you're running a small business or startup.

### "AutoCAD Review"

June 3, 2025

We love the utilizing the 2D drafting tool the most. It comes in handy when drafting up new floor plans or blueprints.

Pros

AutoCAD by Autodesk is a very important software used by our Engineering team. they use it to get precise drafting of lines, shapes and dimensions.

Cons

As much as we like the 2D drafting tools, the 3D modeling isn't the best. We've found that it is not as intuitive as other 3D modeling tools.

I used it for web design at my former position. It was hard using with no experience, but I was able to figure it out with a little instruction along with trial and error. Just glad I was not using it for a CNC machine.

Pros

Amazing program to do your CAD design work. Easier than some of the others out there. Can get tutorials if you need online or in youtube.

Cons

Complicated if you do not know what you are doing and have little instruction. It is not cheap!

### "Useful program for drafting, not as useful for "smart" coordination of engineering trades"

November 5, 2024

5.0

The program is useful for the creation of 2D drawings, with the purpose of hard-lining sketches within the computer- basically hand-drafting in a digital format.

Pros

The ability to draw up plans quickly and accurately. Very useful for sketching work and overlaying with other construction trades for coordination.

Cons

The lack of "smart" abilities within the software. AutoCADrelies on the ability of the user to draw what they can imagine, in comparison to other software on the market which have more 3D capabilities to create whole building models for coordination with engineering consultants and architect.

### "Thank you AutoCAD"

November 4, 2024

5.0

I would say Autodesk company has done a great job in equipping this software with simple but powerful tools. I would be greatly happy if AutoDesk can somehow integrate this platform with a collaborative platform like Fusion 360.

Pros

I have been using AutoCAD since 2006 back when I was in college, and I have become a big fan of both 2D drawings and 3D design modelling. Its been a fun journey using AutoCAD as a hobby and later in my engineering career. One of the things I love the most is how the main interface is kept simple yet powerful. It makes creating 2D drawings a breeze.

Cons

3D modelling within AutoCAD is slightly messy. I would prefer to Use Fusion 360 for this job.
