Mechanical Engineer Design Used the software for: 2+ years ### "User-friendly CAD design and editing software" September 19, 2025 5.0 This program aids in my design flow and has become an invaluable tool. I would recommend this to everyone who is involved in design. It not only helps on the front end, but saves a lot of time if you just need to tweak 2D drawings created from giant 3D assemblies. Pros I like how easy and intuitive this program is. There is basically no learning curve, and even if you do get stuck, it has a convenient search bar that works well. There is also plentiful support to be found on the Autodesk community website. I use it daily to import and export DXFs and DWGs that work seamlessly with SolidWorks and Adobe Illustrator. The last thing I will mention is how unique the selection tool is and how very helpful it is. Cons There really is nothing major that I dislike. There are a few minor things, such as not being able to have driving dimensional annotations, but that could be more of an intended choice. The only other thing is that it does not use the native file explorer very well, and sometimes it is a little tricky to find files on your computer inside the program. Review Source DK Divya K. From updating to the newest software each year to keeping it up and going on multiple devices working in tandem, I never once had a software issue. Now hardware when plotting out a massive drawing..... that can be a different story. Pros I personally liked the exclusivity of it, which kept demand up for anyone AutoCAD savvy. In my opionion it is the pinnacle of software for technical creation that needs to be finite in details or measurements. What really sealed the deal is when they integrated BIMS and endless libraries for everything and anything. From textiles to furniture and specialty equipment, there is now a BIM for everything, which is so much better than a dedcade ago when you had to draw in everything yourself. Cons Some projects don't require measurements to be so finite therefore making it more time consuming for simplier tasks that don't require precision work. Or in other words trying to use this software to do things it can do but wasn't necessarily designed for. While it is a powerful tool for precision drafting, the random freezes when inserting blocks can be very stressful when deadlines are close. However, being able to submit compatible .dwg files is essential for my university courses. Pros The access to the Student License with my institutional email is a lifesaver. For my electrical engineering projects, the layer management is perfect for separating lighting circuits from the architectural floor plan. It is the absolute standard in Panama, so mastering it is necessary for my career. Cons It has frustrating stability issues. Sometimes, even in simple files (like a small house plan), placing a single object/block causes the software to freeze indefinitely, forcing me to restart my entire PC. I started my drafting career in AutoCAD, and it will always be my go-to in the sense that the interface is easy to use. Pros It is most suitable for all forms Drawings in architecture as well as other engineering discipline. Also, it is user friendly in most cases, and the frequent update is worthy. Cons I find AutoCAD less useful and less meaningful while doing 3D works. It is not as smart as REVIT despite being from the same parent company Autodesk. Mostly used the conversion feature from PDF to DWG which works great but however there is still room for perfection. Pros Great 2D Drafting software. Helps to quickly check and verify ideas using 2d elevation, plan etc. Used it extensively during tower crane erection and dismantling preparation for the creation of scheme drawings. Favourite Feature - PDFIMPORT. Best part - keyboard commands shortucts which differentiates it from other CAD applications. Cons The cost is very high. Unsustainable for an individual to acquire. Had used it on student and organizational license. The PDFIMPORT function can be improved - lots of information is turned to noise during conversion from PDF to DWG. Dimensions also get incorrectly scaled - maybe with the application of AI the conversion can be streamlined as this is one of the best feature.
